Evaluating SAP stock means weighing its cloud-led growth and backlog against execution risks, then testing the share price against consistent earnings or cash-flow estimates. SAP’s Q2 2026 results show momentum in cloud revenue, but the available company filings do not establish a current share price or valuation multiple—so they are not enough to conclude that the stock is cheap or expensive.
What SAP sells and how its business is changing
SAP SE, headquartered in Walldorf, Germany, sells enterprise software that connects processes such as finance, procurement, human resources, supply chain, and customer experience. Its 2025 Form 20-F describes a strategic direction centered on integrated applications delivered through a cloud platform. For investors, that makes both new-customer wins and expansion within existing customers important: adoption of additional modules can deepen the role of SAP software across an organization. The business transition also affects how growth should be read. Cloud subscriptions can make revenue more recurring, but moving customers from on-premise licenses and maintenance to cloud services can change the timing and mix of revenue. Assess cloud growth alongside total revenue, margins, renewals, and cash generation rather than treating one cloud metric as a complete picture.
What the latest reported results say
In its Q2 and half-year 2026 release, published July 23, 2026, SAP reported the following year-over-year changes. “Reported” figures reflect actual exchange rates; constant-currency figures remove currency movements to aid comparison. These bases are not interchangeable. SAP Q2 and half-year 2026 results

| Measure | Reported result | At constant currencies |
|---|---|---|
| Current cloud backlog | €22.9 billion; up 27% | Up 26% |
| Cloud revenue | Up 22% | Up 24% |
| Cloud ERP Suite revenue | Up 25% | Up 27% |
| Total revenue | Up 9% | Up 11% |
| Operating profit | IFRS: up 8%; non-IFRS: up 7% | Non-IFRS: up 9%; constant-currency IFRS growth not stated in the Q2 release |
The figures are company-reported, not independent market estimates. Cloud growth outpaced total revenue growth in the quarter, while backlog offers a forward-looking indicator of contracted cloud business. Backlog is not the same as recognized revenue: investors should watch how it converts over time and whether renewals and customer expansions support the expected trajectory.
For longer-term context, SAP’s 2025 Form 20-F reported FY2025 cloud revenue of €21.02 billion and cloud and software revenue of €32.54 billion. Compare these annual figures with later periods only after checking definitions and time spans.

How to assess SAP’s outlook
SAP’s 2025 Form 20-F initially gave a 2026 cloud revenue outlook of €25.8–€26.2 billion and non-IFRS operating profit of €11.9–€12.3 billion. The subsequent Q2 2026 release says the non-IFRS operating-profit outlook was updated to reflect dilution from the Dremio and Prior Labs acquisitions. Because the materials summarized here do not specify the revised range, do not use the original profit range as though it were still current; consult the Q2 release for the latest guidance before relying on it.
The annual report also said SAP expected current cloud backlog growth to slightly decelerate. Outlook ranges are management expectations, not guaranteed results. Track quarterly performance against the latest guidance, and distinguish reported growth from constant-currency growth when judging whether execution is on plan.

How to value SAP shares
A valuation needs a dated market quote and financial inputs on a consistent basis. The sources cited here do not establish a contemporaneous share price, market capitalization, or current multiple. They therefore cannot support a price-based conclusion that SAP is undervalued or overvalued. Before comparing prices, identify whether the quote is for SAP’s Frankfurt ordinary shares or its NYSE ADRs, and state the quote date and currency.
Compare price with earnings
Use a clearly defined price-to-earnings ratio and specify whether earnings are IFRS or adjusted. Consider the multiple alongside expected revenue growth and margin delivery: a high multiple may require stronger future performance, while a lower multiple can reflect slower growth or greater risk. Do not mix current share prices with earnings from inconsistent periods.

Check cash generation
Free-cash-flow yield relates free cash flow to equity value. Review cash conversion, working-capital effects, and the relationship between IFRS results and any adjusted measures used in an estimate. A reported operating-profit trend alone does not establish what shareholders receive as free cash flow.
Use enterprise value for peer comparisons
Enterprise-value multiples can help when companies have different cash and debt positions. Compare SAP with peers using the same reporting period, currency treatment, and accounting definitions. Useful comparison axes include cloud and total revenue growth, backlog growth and conversion, recurring-revenue mix, IFRS and clearly labeled adjusted operating margins, free-cash-flow conversion, customer retention and expansion, and valuation relative to growth.

Test more than one scenario
Build scenarios that show how a slowdown in growth, weaker margin delivery, currency changes, or acquisition dilution could alter earnings and cash-flow assumptions. This makes the assumptions behind a valuation visible; it does not remove uncertainty or produce a reliable price target by itself.

SAP’s 2025 Form 20-F identifies risks that investors should connect to measurable operating outcomes. These are disclosed exposures, not predictions that any particular event will occur.
- Cloud execution and customer transitions: Can SAP move customers toward cloud subscriptions while managing near-term effects on on-premise license and maintenance revenue? Does backlog convert, and do customers renew and adopt additional modules or capacity?
- Competition and pricing: Can SAP defend its position against established vendors, hyperscalers, and newer entrants without sacrificing margins or market share?
- Technology and product delivery: Can SAP keep pace with rapid technological change and deliver products that work reliably and integrate well? Will AI-related investment produce customer adoption and returns?
- Acquisitions: Can SAP integrate acquisitions and realize their intended contribution without distracting from core execution? The Q2 outlook update shows acquisition dilution is relevant to near-term expectations.
- Economic, political, and currency conditions: How could global economic or political instability, foreign-exchange movements, or changes in public-sector demand affect growth and profitability?
SAP’s filing also warns that attracting new customers and retaining existing ones at renewal are important to sustaining cloud results. That makes customer retention and expansion relevant diligence areas, not merely secondary sales statistics. SAP 2025 Form 20-F
Quick Recap
A practical evaluation checklist
- Start with the business mix: Separate cloud revenue and backlog from total revenue, and note whether growth is reported or at constant currencies.
- Check execution against guidance: Use SAP’s latest quarterly outlook, not an earlier annual-report range superseded by later updates.
- Assess durability: Examine backlog conversion, renewals, customer expansion, and the effects of migrating from on-premise products.
- Review profitability and cash: Keep IFRS and non-IFRS measures distinct; test whether earnings growth is supported by cash generation.
- Price the shares consistently: Record a dated quote, share class, currency, and financial period, then compare valuation with plausible growth and margin scenarios.
- Compare peers on like-for-like terms: Align accounting measures, periods, currencies, and business definitions before drawing conclusions.
