To enable the newer Microsoft Edge look, open Settings and more (…) > Settings > Appearance and turn on Try the new look and feel of Microsoft Edge if that option is available. Microsoft says visual updates roll out gradually, and the controls can differ by Edge version, so the toggle may not appear on every Windows 11 PC.
Turn on the new Edge look

Open Microsoft Edge and select Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner.

Select Settings, then Appearance. You can also enter
edge://settings/appearancein the address bar. -
If you see Try the new look and feel of Microsoft Edge, switch it on. Microsoft documents this control, but its availability depends on the version installed and the rollout. Microsoft’s instructions for changing Edge’s look describe the toggle.

What if the new-look toggle is missing?
Its absence does not mean you missed a Windows 11 setting. Microsoft says visual changes are introduced gradually, and the available Appearance options can vary by Edge version. The newer browser design draws on Windows 11 styling, including rounded corners and translucent backgrounds, but the design rollout and the named toggle are not guaranteed to arrive together for every installation. Microsoft’s 2023 design announcement describes that visual direction.

After updating, return to Settings > Appearance and check again for the toggle.

If it is still absent, use the Appearance controls available in your version rather than relying on a historical experimental flag. Microsoft’s current visual-changes guidance notes that options may differ between versions. See Microsoft’s notes on visual changes in Edge.

Adjust Edge’s appearance without the toggle
The Appearance page also offers controls for themes, fonts, zoom, and toolbar options. For a dark theme, select Dark under Overall appearance, if that setting is available. These settings change the browser’s appearance, but they are separate from enabling the newer overall design. Microsoft’s Appearance guidance covers the available controls.

Older tutorials may recommend changing settings at edge://flags. Microsoft’s current guidance does not establish a particular experimental flag as a required or universal way to enable the present Edge design. Unless Microsoft documents a specific flag for your installed version, use the supported Appearance settings and wait for the rollout rather than changing an unrelated experimental option.
