PS5 AI upscaling is Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), a feature for compatible games on PS5 Pro. Check it on the console at Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality. Sony says the setting is on by default; the TV displays the console’s output but does not enable PSSR.
Enable the PSSR image-quality setting
- Confirm that your console is a PS5 Pro in Sony’s CFI-7000 model group. Sony limits the setting to that group: PS5 Pro enhanced features.
- On the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Select Screen and Video, then Video Output.
- Choose Enhance PSSR Image Quality. Sony says it is on by default. If it is off, turn it on; you can return to this menu and turn it off if a game behaves unexpectedly.
- Launch a game that supports PSSR. The setting alone does not add PSSR to every game.
What the setting does—and what it doesn’t
PSSR stands for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. Sony describes it as AI-enhanced resolution for compatible PS5 Pro games, with 4K gaming on a 4K TV: PlayStation 5 Pro. Support and results vary by title, so do not expect the same effect in every game.
The setting is on the PS5 Pro, not in the TV’s picture menus. A TV picture preset does not substitute for PSSR, and Sony’s cited guidance does not require a particular TV brand or model. A compatible 4K TV is relevant when you want to view the described 4K output.
Which PS5 models and games support it?
| What you have | PSSR setting or support |
|---|---|
| PS5 Pro in the CFI-7000 model group | Sony says the Enhance PSSR Image Quality setting is available. |
| Original PS5 or PS5 Slim | Sony’s support page limits the setting to CFI-7000 model-group consoles; do not expect this menu option on these models. |
| A game without PSSR support | The console setting does not make the game use PSSR. Support and image results vary by title. |
Troubleshoot a missing setting or a result you can’t see
The setting is missing
Check the console model group first. Sony identifies CFI-7000 as the eligible group for this setting. If your console is not in that group, the option is not available.
#1 Best Overall
- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
The setting is on, but the game looks unchanged
Check whether that specific game supports PSSR. Sony describes the feature for compatible titles and says results vary; it does not promise a visible change in every game or scene. Confirming that the setting is on does not establish that the game uses PSSR.
You are looking for a TV control
Return to the PS5’s Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output menu. PSSR’s enhancement toggle is on the console. The TV receives and displays the output; changing a TV picture preset is not Sony’s documented way to enable it.
