Dumpster Gang is not downloadable on Nintendo Switch 2 yet. Curve Games announced a Switch 2 release window of March 2027, but no exact day, eShop price, file size, rating, or physical format has been published. Until then, you can play the free demo on Steam or Xbox on PC; the complete PC version arrives on Steam, Xbox on PC, and PC Game Pass on 3 December 2026. When the Switch 2 edition launches, Nintendo’s Virtual Game Card system will handle the install. If it later freezes or refuses to start, follow Nintendo’s order: restart, update the console and game, scan for corrupted data, then delete and redownload before troubleshooting the microSD Express card or controllers.
Is Dumpster Gang on Nintendo Switch 2 yet?
No. The announcement during Nintendo Indie World Showcase Fall 2026 on 28 October 2026 confirmed Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S versions for March 2027, without a calendar day. There is no Nintendo eShop listing at the time of writing, so a page claiming that you can download the Switch 2 game now is not an official release channel.
Older pages that describe the game as PC-only predate the 28 October announcement. Curve Games and Coyote House Games are the current sources for the console plan. The official game site is playdumpstergang.com.

No Switch 2 price, download size, age rating, physical cartridge, or Game-Key Card plan has been announced. Curve’s past physical releases for other games do not establish that Dumpster Gang will receive a cartridge.

What kind of game is Dumpster Gang?
Dumpster Gang is a cooperative action sandbox for one to four players, including solo play. You control mischievous raccoons, complete absurd missions, steal junk and snacks, and evade an Exterminator who can trap and capture members of the gang.
- Vertical traversal: sprint, climb walls, crawl through vents, and reach routes above and below the street.
- Physics-driven mischief: pick up, throw, steal, and smash many objects, allowing accidents and chain reactions.
- Co-op objectives: carry heavy loot together, solve puzzles, and rescue captured teammates. Betrayals and failed plans are part of the intended comedy.
- Hideout progression: customize a raccoon, unlock hats with unique abilities, and decorate the hideout with stolen items.
- Solo option: the announced player range starts at one, so a second player is not required.
Coyote House Games is a new studio founded by Jake Ellis and Samuel Malone. Curve Games is publishing the game. The Steam page lists Full Controller Support, Xbox controller support, English plus at least Simplified Chinese, French, Italian, and German in a 10-language set, and online-interactivity features such as in-game chat. Steam Deck compatibility is currently marked Unknown, and the unreleased full game has no user reviews.
Can I play Dumpster Gang before the Switch 2 version?
Yes. The free PC demo contains the tutorial and first two levels. It is available on Steam and Xbox on PC, making it the only official way to play before the console launch. The complete PC release is scheduled for 3 December 2026 on Steam, Xbox on PC, and PC Game Pass.

There is no Switch 2 demo announcement. Do not sideload an APK, NSP, or “free Switch 2” package from a mirror. Such files are not an official substitute for an eShop release and may be unsafe.
How will I download Dumpster Gang on Switch 2 when it launches?
Nintendo Switch 2 digital purchases are associated with the Nintendo Account that bought them and appear as Virtual Game Cards. The exact menu wording can change with system software, but Nintendo’s current redownload flow is:
- Connect the Switch 2 to the internet.
- If the Dumpster Gang icon is already on the HOME Menu, highlight it and choose Download.
- If there is no icon, open Virtual Game Cards on the HOME Menu, choose the purchasing user, and complete the password or PIN authentication if requested.
- Select Dumpster Gang and choose Load to This Console. Nintendo may show the equivalent wording Load on This System in troubleshooting screens.
- To queue several games, open Virtual Game Cards, press X, select the cards, and choose Load Multiple.
On a console that is not one of the two consoles allowed to load a virtual card, Online License can allow the data to be downloaded without loading the card: Virtual Game Cards → user → title → Options → Download Data. The purchasing account still controls access.

Demos, Nintendo Switch Online classic libraries, Expansion Pack DLC, and Game Trials are commonly redownloaded from Nintendo eShop rather than the Virtual Game Card screen. If the icon does not appear after a download starts, hold POWER for three seconds, choose Power Options → Restart, and check again.
What does “You must have the software in order to play” mean?
Nintendo says this message usually means that the downloadable game or its DLC is not currently present on the console; it is not, by itself, evidence of a hardware failure.
- Virtual Game Card: restart the console, check for a software update, load the card with Load on This System, and start the game.
- Physical card, if a future release uses one: restart, remove and reinsert the card, delete the software data while keeping saves, download updates, and redownload DLC from eShop.
Because Dumpster Gang has no announced physical SKU, the first branch is the one Switch 2 owners should expect. A missing DLC entitlement can produce a similar message even when the base game is installed.
How do I fix Dumpster Gang crashing, freezing, or refusing to launch?
The Switch 2 build has not shipped, so there are no Dumpster Gang-specific crash statistics, bug counts, or post-launch patches to cite. For a downloaded Switch 2 title showing a long load, severe lag, a frozen console, a logo followed by HOME, or either message below, use Nintendo’s generic sequence:
- “Unable to start software. Return to the HOME Menu and try again.”
- “Could not start the software. Please try again from the HOME Menu.”
If a numerical error code is displayed, search Nintendo’s article for that exact code first; a code-specific procedure takes priority over the generic ladder.
1. Restart the console
Hold POWER for three seconds, select Power Options → Restart, and try the game again. If the system does not respond, hold POWER for 12 seconds to force a shutdown, then press POWER normally to boot it.
2. Update Switch 2 system software
From HOME, open System Settings → System → System Update. Install any update and restart if prompted. Nintendo’s support sequence puts this before data checks.

3. Update the game
Highlight Dumpster Gang on HOME without launching it. Press + or −, choose Software Update, then Via the Internet. The console must be online.
4. Scan for corrupted data
Go to System Settings → Data Management → Manage Software, select Dumpster Gang, and choose Scan for Corrupted Data (Nintendo of America wording) or Check for Corrupted Data (Nintendo UK wording). If corruption is found, follow the prompt to redownload.
5. Delete the software and redownload it
Use System Settings → Data Management → Manage Software → Dumpster Gang → Delete Software. This removes the installed program and its icon, but Nintendo’s procedure keeps save data. Redownload with the same Nintendo Account through Virtual Game Cards or eShop. Any DLC or purchase bonuses must be downloaded again from eShop.
6. Isolate a microSD Express problem
Only take this branch when a microSD Express card is inserted and the earlier steps have not solved the launch failure:
- Back up screenshots and videos to a computer, then format the card through System Settings → System → Formatting Options → Format microSD Card → Continue → Format. Formatting erases the card and restarts the console; save data in system memory is not deleted.
- Try a different microSD Express card.
- Power the console off, open the adjustable stand, press the card until it clicks, remove it, and install Dumpster Gang directly to internal storage.
Nintendo Switch 2 accepts only microSD Express cards. A regular microSD card used in an original Switch is not compatible. The console has 256 GB of internal storage, which is the preferred diagnostic destination when the removable card is suspect. If the game still fails after an internal-storage redownload, contact Nintendo Support.

What should I do if a Joy-Con 2 is not working at launch?
Dumpster Gang is built for one to four players, but Curve has not published a Switch 2 button map, rumble specification, or confirmed mouse-control mode. The following controller steps are practical secondary guidance, not a Dumpster Gang-specific Nintendo fix.
Reseat both magnetic controllers
Slide both Joy-Con 2 controllers off and attach them again until each side makes a firm magnetic connection. If the left controller is not detected, restart the console with both controllers detached, then attach them after HOME appears. A controller that is only partly registered can leave a game waiting for input during startup.

Check for accidental mouse mode
Joy-Con 2 has a side mouse sensor and can act as a mouse in compatible games. Keep the controllers lifted away from a table or lap while launching if you suspect an unintended mouse-mode signal. This advice comes from secondary troubleshooting coverage; Nintendo describes mouse operation as available only in compatible games.
Confirm the player setup
For a four-player local session, pair the additional controllers before entering the game and verify that each player is assigned. The announcement confirms one-to-four-player play, but it does not specify whether every local arrangement uses detached Joy-Con pairs, a Pro-style controller, or another accessory.
Do not assume that a controller symptom proves a game bug. First check attachment, player assignment, system updates, and whether another connected input device is sending an unexpected mode.
Does Dumpster Gang support Joy-Con 2 mouse mode, GameShare, or cross-play?
Those features are unconfirmed. A Brazilian report said the Switch 2 version accepts Joy-Con 2 as a mouse and supports GameShare, but that information does not appear in the Curve Games press release, Steam listing, Nintendo’s Dumpster Gang materials, or the other announced coverage. Treat it as an unverified report rather than a feature promise.
Nintendo’s hardware page confirms that either Joy-Con 2 can be used as a mouse in compatible games. GameChat uses the right controller’s C Button and requires an internet connection, a Nintendo Account, and Nintendo Switch Online; camera video also requires the Switch 2 camera or a compatible USB-C camera sold separately. Those system requirements do not establish that Dumpster Gang itself supports GameShare or that its online co-op requires Nintendo Switch Online.
Cross-play between Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox is not confirmed. Steam describes online interactivity among Steam users, which is not evidence that a Switch 2 player can join a PC friend.
Should the game be installed on internal storage or microSD Express?
Either location is possible once the game is released, but internal storage is the cleanest troubleshooting test. Switch 2 has 256 GB of internal storage, and Nintendo requires microSD Express rather than the ordinary microSD cards used by the original Switch. If a crash disappears after removing the card and reinstalling internally, the removable storage path was implicated; if it does not, continue with Nintendo’s support process.

Formatting a microSD Express card erases screenshots, videos, and installed software on that card. Back up media first. Save data remains in system memory, but installed games and downloadable content must be downloaded again.

These gaps matter when evaluating listings and troubleshooting advice. A retailer page, fan wiki, or social post cannot establish a release date, price, control feature, or cross-play policy unless Curve Games or Nintendo publishes it.
What is the safest way to follow the release?
Use the publisher’s official site and the Nintendo eShop on Switch 2 after the title is listed. For immediate play, use the Steam or Xbox on PC demo, then choose the PC release on 3 December 2026 if you do not want to wait until March 2027. Avoid sellers advertising a physical “Dumpster Gang Nintendo Switch 2” copy before a SKU is announced.
The practical preparation for a four-player Switch 2 session is a console with current system software, enough internal space or a genuine microSD Express card, and enough compatible controllers. Extra Joy-Con 2 pairs may be needed for four local players; the game announcement does not say that a particular controller bundle is included.
