“Reset memory” can mean three different things: remove a few saved facts, erase recent messages, or delete the entire account and start over. Those actions have different consequences. In Replika, you can delete individual saved memories, but removing the complete conversation history requires account deletion. In Kindroid, Rewind removes only the latest messages, while account deletion follows a separate process. Export anything you need first, check billing separately, and use the app’s account and privacy controls rather than assuming that uninstalling the app erases server-held data.
What does “reset memory” mean in an AI companion app?
It is not a universal command. Decide what you want removed before opening settings, because a narrow cleanup may be reversible while account deletion can permanently remove your profile and conversations.

A quick way to choose the right scope
- If the problem is one incorrect personal detail, remove the individual saved memory first.
- If you accidentally sent a recent message, look for a rewind, edit or regenerate function. These normally affect only a defined recent window.
- If you need every conversation gone, look for an account-level deletion control; deleting a memory is not enough.
- If you want a completely different companion, confirm whether “reset” actually means deleting the account and creating another one.
- If you only want to stop using the service, cancel billing and then decide whether you also need data deletion.
Using the smallest scope that solves the problem reduces the chance of losing purchases, levels, photos or other content unnecessarily. Conversely, do not use a narrow memory control when your goal is to remove a sensitive transcript.

What should I do before deleting AI companion data?
- Define the scope. Write down whether you need to remove a single fact, recent messages, every chat, or the complete account. This wording is useful if you have to contact support later.
- Export a copy if it matters. An export may be unavailable after deletion. Kindroid provides an export under Profile > Preferences > Account privacy > Export data. It produces a JSON Lines file containing Kindroids and settings, chat history, journal entries, selfies and video selfies, avatars, and custom voices. Media are supplied as links rather than embedded files; requests are limited to once every 30 days and the emailed link expires after seven days. Download the file promptly and store it somewhere you control.
- Check what an export does not contain. Kindroid’s file lists media as links, so it is not a self-contained archive of the photos and videos. Preserve any media you are entitled to keep separately before closing the account.
- Record billing details. Account deletion and subscription cancellation are separate operations in Kindroid. Check the Apple App Store, Google Play or other payment account that actually bills you. Replika also warns that Store purchases cannot be transferred to a replacement account.
- Save confirmation evidence. Keep the deletion email, confirmation screen or support ticket number. Note the date, account identifier and the exact scope requested. It helps if you later need to ask about an account that still appears active.
- Read the current privacy policy. A delete button does not by itself establish that every backup, fraud-prevention record or legally retained financial record disappears immediately. Look for processing periods, legal-retention exceptions and information shared with processors.
- Secure local access. Sign out on shared devices, remove saved passwords if appropriate and close browser sessions. These steps prevent someone else from opening the account; they do not replace the provider’s deletion process.
How do I delete selected memories in Replika?
Replika lets you inspect and remove individual saved memories without deleting the account.
- Open the companion’s Memory area.
- Review the saved items and identify the fact or facts you no longer want retained. Check spelling, names and related entries so you do not remove the wrong item.
- Use the item’s edit or delete control and confirm the removal.
- Start a new conversation to check whether the unwanted fact is still being used, remembering that conversational context can be separate from the visible memory list.
Replika describes memory as layered: some items appear in the Memory tab, while another layer draws on patterns from conversation history. Its help documentation cautions that deleting memories may affect the companion’s ability to recall details. Removing a visible memory therefore does not guarantee that every reference to the subject has vanished from old chats or other processing systems.
If the fact is sensitive, search your own transcript and consider whether the conversation itself must be removed. The memory control changes the saved-memory entry; it is not documented as a command to rewrite every prior message.
How do I delete my entire Replika account?
Replika’s documented account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. The service says the profile, badges, levels, XP, chat history, photos and exchanged links are removed as part of deletion.
In the mobile app
- Open Settings.
- Choose Account Settings.
- Select Delete Replika.
- Choose a reason when prompted.
- Enter the account password.
- Confirm the deletion and retain the confirmation message.
On the web
- Sign in to the Replika website.
- Open Account Settings.
- Select Delete my Account.
- Complete the password and confirmation steps.
Check that you are signed into the intended account before confirming. Multiple sign-in methods can lead to separate accounts, and deleting the wrong one will not remove data held under another login.
If you cannot sign in, do not create a second account assuming it will replace the first one. Recover access or contact the service through its current support channel so the request is tied to the correct account. Do not send a password in a support message.

How do I reset Replika by creating a brand-new companion?
Replika’s official reset guidance says that starting fresh with a brand-new Replika requires deleting the current account and then creating another one. This is an account replacement, not a temporary memory wipe.
- Deletion is permanent and irreversible.
- Purchased Store items cannot be transferred to the new account.
- Any chats, photos, levels, badges and saved memories associated with the old account are lost when that account is deleted.
- A new account does not automatically inherit the old companion’s history or personality context.
Export or manually save anything you need before confirming the old account’s removal. The cited Replika help material does not establish an equivalent one-click account export path, so do not assume one exists. If you are undecided, remove selected memories or stop using the account instead of testing the reset process on an account you may want back.
How long can Replika retain data after account deletion?
Replika’s privacy policy, accessed October 26, 2026, gives different periods for different categories of information. It states that profile information, messages and content, interests and preferences may be processed for up to 60 days after contract termination when needed for contract performance. It also states that account information and financial records are retained for a minimum of 10 years after termination because of legal requirements.
Those figures describe particular categories and purposes, not a promise that every item is deleted at the same time. The policy also describes deletion rights extending to third-party service providers, including AI language-model providers, subject to legal obligations and other stated limitations.
Keep the confirmation and policy version you relied on. If data still appears after the stated period, ask support which category it belongs to and whether a legal, security or billing exception applies. These are Replika-specific policy statements; they are not a general timetable for every AI companion service.
How do I remove recent messages or delete a Kindroid?
Kindroid separates short-range message cleanup from account deletion. Its FAQ documents Rewind for the latest messages and a different process for deleting Kindroids.

Remove the newest messages with Rewind
Rewind can remove up to the latest 10 messages. It cannot delete older messages through that feature. The FAQ also describes editing the latest user message or regenerating the latest companion response when correcting only the newest exchange.
Before using Rewind, count the messages you intend to remove and verify the feature’s preview or confirmation. A ten-message limit is not a promise that an entire conversation, journal or profile entry will be erased. For an older sensitive exchange, use the broader control documented by the service rather than repeatedly applying a recent-message feature.
Delete Kindroids
The FAQ says every Kindroid except the last can be deleted instantly. The final Kindroid is scheduled for deletion after a 24-hour delay. The documented deletion removes global journals, user backstory, saved places and location data, and custom voices. Subscription status, currency counts and other logistical data are retained for abuse-prevention and operational reasons.

Do not create duplicate accounts simply to bypass the waiting period; first check the service’s instructions and the account status shown in the app.
How do I export Kindroid data before deletion?
- Open Profile.
- Choose Preferences.
- Open Account privacy.
- Select Export data and submit the request.
- Download the JSON Lines file from the emailed link within seven days.
The export covers Kindroids and settings, chat history, journal entries, selfies and video selfies, avatars and custom voices. Photos, videos and other media are represented by links rather than included files. You can request an export once every 30 days, so make the request after deciding what you actually need and before starting deletion.
Web and mobile privacy controls can differ, and some settings vary by geography. A missing menu may reflect the platform or region you are using, not proof that no export or privacy option exists. Check the current help center for the interface attached to your account.

Does deleting a Kindroid account cancel its subscription?
No. Kindroid explicitly states that account deletion does not cancel a subscription. Cancel the recurring plan in the store or payment service that bills you, then verify that the next renewal is disabled. Deleting the app or account is not a substitute for that billing step.

Why doesn’t uninstalling the app delete my data?
Uninstalling removes the local application and possibly cached files from your device; it does not normally submit an account-deletion request to the service. Cloud conversations, profile information, subscription records and abuse-prevention data can remain on the provider’s systems until you use its account or privacy controls and any applicable retention period ends.
After submitting deletion, sign out on other devices, remove saved login credentials if the device is shared, and check whether a browser session still opens the account. These steps protect local access but do not alter the provider’s retention policy. Reinstalling the app later may make an account appear available again if deletion was never completed, so rely on the confirmation and support record rather than the app icon.
What should I do if the delete or memory control is missing?
- Check the platform. A web dashboard may expose privacy controls that are absent from the mobile app, or vice versa.
- Update and reload. Install the current app version, sign out and back in, and check the service’s current help center.
- Verify the account. Multiple login methods can create separate accounts; confirm the email or sign-in provider attached to the data you want removed.
- Look for a pending state. A scheduled deletion, such as Kindroid’s final-companion delay, may hide or disable additional controls.
- Contact privacy support. State the exact account identifier, the category of data, the action already taken and the confirmation received. Do not send a password or unnecessary identity documents through an unsecured channel.
- Check regional wording. Privacy and data-usage options can differ by geography, so use the policy applicable to your location.
- Ask about processors and backups. If your concern involves an AI language-model provider or a retained backup, ask which deletion request covers it and what exception or timetable applies.
Common mistakes that cause unwanted data loss or continued retention
- Confusing memory with history. Removing a saved fact does not necessarily remove the chat in which you disclosed it.
- Assuming “reset” is temporary. Replika uses account deletion to create a brand-new companion; it is not an undoable reset button.
- Deleting before exporting. Kindroid’s export link expires after seven days, and its request interval is 30 days. Plan the download before confirming deletion.
- Ignoring purchases. Replika Store items cannot be transferred to a replacement account, while Kindroid billing continues unless separately canceled.
- Expecting immediate erasure everywhere. Replika publishes different periods for conversational data and legally retained account or financial records. A provider may also retain limited operational information.
- Using the wrong login. A Google, Apple or email login may point to a different account than the one containing the data you intend to remove.
- Relying on an old menu path. Interfaces change, and web, mobile and regional versions can expose different controls.

Compare any app’s controls on five points: scope, timing and reversibility, export contents, billing consequences, and retention after deletion. Replika and Kindroid illustrate why no single button or rule applies to every service.

Can I recover an AI companion account after deleting it?
Usually you should assume no. Replika states that account deletion cannot be undone, and its reset process creates a separate account rather than restoring the old one. A service’s support team may be able to clarify a pending request, but it cannot be relied on as an account-recovery method.
Will deleting a saved memory remove the same fact from old chat transcripts?
Not necessarily. A saved-memory entry and the conversation in which the fact appeared can be separate records, and some systems also derive context from conversation patterns. Some services’ policies describe passing deletion rights to third-party processors, including language-model providers, but those rights remain subject to legal obligations and policy exceptions. Read the specific service policy and ask support how it handles processors rather than assuming a universal result.
Does deleting the app from my phone delete my companion account?
No. Uninstalling normally removes the local app, not the provider’s cloud account. Use the service’s account, privacy or support controls, and cancel any subscription through the platform that bills you.
How many Kindroid messages can Rewind remove?
