Delete your data in this order: export anything you need, cancel the subscription where you bought it, use the app’s account-deletion control, then send a written privacy request if the control is missing or you need broader erasure. Uninstalling an AI companion app usually removes only the software from your device; it does not normally delete the server-side account, chats, memories, uploads, or billing records. Account deletion is often permanent, and providers may retain limited records for backups, legal duties, fraud prevention, or accounting.
The exact labels vary by app and region. The steps below cover the documented paths for Replika, Character.AI, Nomi, and Companion AI, plus a provider-neutral process you can use with another companion service.
What does deleting an AI companion account actually remove?
Account deletion is a server-side request. Depending on the provider, it can remove your profile, conversation history, memories, uploaded images, exchanged links, settings, badges, levels, experience points, and push-notification tokens. It may also revoke the app’s access to a connected account such as Google.
Deletion is not the same as removing the app from your phone. Uninstalling stops the local app from running, but an account can remain active online and continue to hold conversations, profile data, and subscription information. Clearing an app’s cache has the same limitation.

Deletion also does not guarantee that every copy disappears immediately. Providers can have encrypted backups, copies held by service providers, security logs, analytics, or records they must retain under tax, commercial, fraud-prevention, or other legal rules. A privacy request should ask the provider to erase data held by processors as well as data in the live account.
What should you do before deleting the account?
Prepare first, because a completed deletion may be irreversible and may remove access to material that cannot be reconstructed.
- Export your data. Look for an Export, Download, or Data controls option. Nomi documents a complete archive under
Settings ▸ Export. Save chats, images, receipts, account identifiers, and any files in a location you control. An export is especially important if you may later need to prove ownership or a payment. - Record the account identity. Note the registered email address, username, user ID, sign-in method, and the approximate dates you used the service. Do not send a password or full payment-card number in a support ticket.
- Save evidence of anything you may need. Capture invoices, subscription receipts, support conversations, and important conversation excerpts before starting deletion.
- Cancel recurring billing separately. Deleting an account and ending an Apple App Store or Google Play subscription can be separate actions. Identify where you paid and cancel in that store or through the provider’s website. Keep the cancellation confirmation.
- Check connected services. If the companion used Google or another sign-in provider, review connected-app permissions after deletion. Nomi says account deletion revokes its access to a connected Google account, but you should still verify the permission has disappeared.
How do you delete a Replika account?
Replika documents deletion in both its mobile app and web account settings. The service states that the action is permanent and cannot be undone, so export and billing checks should happen first.

Replika says deletion removes the profile, badges, levels, XP, chat history, photos, and exchanged links. Its help center also says there is no separate way to delete the entire message history while keeping the account. Editing or removing individual memories is a different control and does not substitute for account deletion.
What Replika may retain
Replika’s privacy policy says some profile, message, content, interest, and preference data may be processed for up to 60 days after termination. Account information, financial records, and certain automatically collected records may be retained for a minimum of 10 years when legally required. The policy describes a deletion right that extends to personal data held by third-party AI providers, subject to legal obligations and the rights of other people.

How do you delete a Character.AI account or request its data removal?
Character.AI’s privacy policy describes regional rights that can include access, correction, deletion, objection or restriction of processing, portability, and the ability to complain. The available control and the identity checks depend on your location and the current account interface.
Start in the service’s current account or privacy-rights area and look for a deletion or data-rights request. If you cannot find a direct control, submit a request from the email registered to the account. State clearly that you want the account closed and personal data erased, including conversations, memories, prompts, profile information, uploads, and data held by processors. Ask which data must be retained, for what legal reason, and for how long.
Character.AI’s policy also indicates that regional rights and model-training choices can vary by jurisdiction and policy version. Read the current policy shown for your country before selecting an opt-out or submitting a rights request.
How do you delete Nomi data?
Nomi documents account deletion under Settings ▸ Account ▸ Delete account. Confirm the deletion only after saving the archive you need. Nomi’s privacy page says you can either take your data with you or delete it, and its documentation also describes deleting individual records and exporting data.
Deletion removes the Nomi account and its data. The service says it revokes Nomi’s access to a connected Google account as part of that process. Because menu labels and retention practices can change, review the current Nomi privacy page and account screen immediately before confirming.

How do you delete a Companion AI account?
Companion AI documents the path Account → More account options → Delete account. Use that control after exporting and cancelling any store subscription.
Companion AI says conversations, memories, settings, uploaded images, profile data, and push tokens are removed from the live database promptly. Routine backups are purged in about 30 days. Subscription and transaction records may remain for up to 10 years under German tax and commercial requirements, and anonymous, non-identifying analytics may remain.
Can you erase chats while keeping the AI companion account?
Sometimes, but this is provider-specific. Companion AI documents a separate reset that can wipe conversations, memories, stories, and profile data while preserving the account. That is useful when you want a fresh companion rather than a complete account closure.
Replika says the opposite for full message history: there is no way to delete the entire history without deleting the account. Its memory-editing feature is narrower and does not remove the complete conversation record. Other services may offer conversation deletion, memory controls, or neither, so check the current help center instead of assuming that a reset has the same effect as erasure.
How do you submit a GDPR or other privacy erasure request?
Use a written request when the in-app control is unavailable, fails, or does not address copies held by processors. Send it from the registered email whenever possible; that helps the provider match the request to the correct account.

- Your name or account identifier and the registered email address.
- The sign-in method and username, if different from the email.
- A direct request to erase the account and personal data.
- The categories to include: profile, prompts, chats, memories, uploads, images, settings, support records, and data processed by vendors or third-party AI providers.

What happens to backups, analytics, and billing records?
Deletion normally starts with the live account, while other systems follow their own schedules. The following documented examples show why a confirmation message may not mean that every record vanished instantly.

These are policy descriptions, not a guarantee that every provider uses the same timetable. Keep the confirmation and note the date on which you submitted the request.
What should you do if the delete button is missing or fails?
- Update the app and try the web account. A control may exist only in one interface, and menu names can change after an update.
- Check the account owner. Confirm that you are signed into the account associated with the registered email, Apple sign-in, Google sign-in, or another identity provider.
- Contact privacy support. Use the provider’s privacy or support form rather than a general social-media message. Include the account identifier, the failed path, the date, and screenshots that do not expose unrelated personal data.
- Ask for a ticket number and deadline. Request written confirmation and ask which records will be retained and why.
- Escalate locally if necessary. If the provider does not resolve the request, contact the privacy contact named in its policy or the data-protection authority available in your region. Keep copies of every message and confirmation.
How do you verify that deletion is complete?
- Sign out of every device and remove saved passwords or session tokens.
- Check that the account no longer appears in the provider’s account list.
- Verify that Apple App Store or Google Play shows no active subscription for the service.

Will I lose a subscription if I delete the account?
