To debug a website in Firefox for Android, connect the phone to desktop Firefox through about:debugging, then inspect the open tab with DevTools. Use USB or, on Android 11 and later, wireless debugging. The desktop tools let you examine the live page’s layout, JavaScript, network requests, and stored data.
What you need before connecting
- A phone running Firefox for Android and a desktop computer running Firefox.
- Android developer options and USB debugging enabled for a wired connection; Firefox for Android’s remote-debugging setting must also be enabled.
adbavailable on the computer. Mozilla says the full Android Studio SDK is not required; onlyadbis needed (Mozilla’s about:debugging documentation).- For USB, a data-capable cable that fits both devices. For wireless, Android 11 or later and a shared network connection between phone and computer.
Connect Firefox for Android to desktop DevTools
- On the phone, enable Android developer options and USB debugging. In Firefox for Android, turn on its remote-debugging setting.
- Connect the phone to the computer with a USB data cable. Accept the Android prompt authorizing the computer if it appears.
- In desktop Firefox, enter
about:debuggingin the address bar. Enable USB devices if prompted, then connect to the phone. Refresh the device list if it does not appear immediately. - Open the site in Firefox for Android. In desktop Firefox, find its tab in the device’s targets and select Inspect. The DevTools toolbox now targets that remote page.
If the phone is missing, confirm that adb is installed, the phone has authorized the computer, and USB debugging is enabled. Refresh the device list after addressing any of these issues. Mozilla’s connection and troubleshooting guidance is in about:debugging.
Choose USB or wireless debugging

Set up wireless debugging
- On the phone, open Android’s Wireless debugging settings and choose the option to pair with a device using a pairing code.
- In a computer terminal, run
adb pairwith the pairing IP address and port displayed on the phone. Enter the pairing code when prompted. - Use
adb connectwith the separate IP address and port shown for the wireless connection. The pairing endpoint and connection endpoint are distinct. - Run
adb devicesto confirm the computer sees the phone, then checkabout:debuggingin desktop Firefox for the device and its open Firefox tab.
Wireless debugging requires Android 11 or later; if the phone does not meet that requirement, use USB. Both devices must be on the same network for the wireless route. See Mozilla’s wireless and USB setup instructions for the current connection flow.
Use the DevTools panel that matches the problem
- Inspector: Examine page structure and CSS when an element is missing, styled incorrectly, or positioned unexpectedly.
- Console: Read runtime messages and errors, and investigate JavaScript problems.
- Network Monitor: Review requests and response behavior when content fails to load or data appears incorrect.
- Storage Inspector: Examine site data stored by the page.
- JavaScript Debugger: Set breakpoints, pause execution, and step through code to inspect its behavior and state.

Use device simulation for a different purpose
Responsive Design Mode can simulate device dimensions and network conditions in desktop Firefox. It is useful for checking responsive layouts and testing under simulated conditions, but it does not replace reproducing device-specific behavior on the actual phone. For that, inspect the live Firefox for Android tab using the remote connection. See Mozilla’s DevTools overview.
Keep the target and desktop versions compatible
The documented remote target is Firefox for Android; this workflow is not a general method for attaching DevTools to every mobile browser. Mozilla recommends compatible desktop and remote Firefox versions. A sufficiently old remote browser may not be supported by desktop DevTools, so follow any version warning shown in Firefox.
