The steps below apply primarily to the Instagram app on Android and iPhone. Meta’s menus can vary slightly by device, account type, country, and app version.
Automatically share future Instagram Reels to Facebook
- Open Instagram and tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap the menu button in the top-right corner.
- Tap Accounts Center.
- Open Sharing across profiles.
- Under Share from, select the Instagram account you use to publish Reels.
- Under Share to, select your Facebook profile or Facebook Page.
- Turn on Your Instagram reels.
Meta’s official instructions use the path Accounts Center → Sharing across profiles → Share from → Your Instagram reels. Once enabled, future Instagram Reels should be shared to the selected Facebook destination automatically.

Share one Reel manually
Manual sharing is better when you want to cross-post only selected Reels or use different destinations for different videos.
- Create a Reel in Instagram and proceed to the final publishing screen.
- Look for Share to Facebook, Also share on Facebook, or a similar option.
- Turn on the Facebook switch.
- Check the selected Facebook profile or Page and audience.
- Tap Share.
If Instagram shows a Facebook audience option, you may be able to choose Public, Friends, or Only me. The exact choices depend on your Facebook settings and account configuration.
Share an Instagram Reel to a Facebook Page
To publish to a Facebook Page, the Instagram account must be connected to that Page, and you need Facebook access or task access to manage the Page. A personal Instagram account connected only to your personal Facebook profile will not automatically publish to a Page.
Connect Instagram to the Page from Facebook
- Log in to Facebook.
- Switch into the Page you want to use.
- Open the Page’s profile menu and choose Settings & privacy → Settings.
- Under Permissions, open Linked accounts.
- Next to Instagram, click View.
- Click Connect account and follow the prompts.
These are the current steps listed in Meta’s instructions for connecting an Instagram account and Facebook Page. After connecting, return to Instagram and confirm that the Page appears as an available Facebook destination.
Professional Instagram accounts can be connected to Facebook Pages. If you try to connect a personal Instagram account to a Page managed in Business Manager, Meta may ask you to switch the Instagram account to a professional account. Professional accounts are public.

Personal Facebook profile versus Facebook Page
Instagram account type affects the destinations you can see:

Meta specifically warns that personal or creator accounts connected to multiple Facebook destinations may accidentally cross-post to the wrong profile or Page. Before publishing, check the Facebook destination on the Reel’s final screen.
What happens after cross-posting?
The Reel appears on Facebook as Facebook content, with its own Facebook reach, views, reactions, comments, and recommendations. Performance on Facebook may differ substantially from performance on Instagram.

The Facebook audience is not necessarily identical to the Instagram audience. Meta says that if you have not set a default Facebook Reels audience, it may be based on your Instagram privacy setting:
- A public Instagram account generally defaults to a public Facebook Reels audience.
- A private Instagram account generally defaults to Facebook Friends.

Can you customize the Facebook version?
Cross-posting is convenient, but it gives you less control than uploading separately. Depending on the Reel and account setup, the Facebook version may not match the Instagram version perfectly in:
- Caption formatting and hashtags
- Cover image
- Audio availability
- Audience and privacy
- Comments and engagement
- Distribution and recommendations
If Facebook is an important channel, keep the original video file and consider uploading a platform-specific version. Use the clean source export instead of downloading a copy that contains an Instagram watermark.

Music rights are a common reason a cross-posted Reel is muted or restricted. Audio available in Instagram’s music library may not be available for the same use on Facebook, and rights can vary by country, account type, and commercial use.
Meta notes that licensed audio can later be muted if agreements with rights holders change. On Facebook, a Reel with changed music rights may be muted and may no longer be recommended to other people, although it can still remain visible on your profile or Page.
For business, advertising, or branded content:
- Use original audio that you own or have permission to use.
- Use royalty-free music or audio licensed for both Instagram and Facebook.
- Do not assume that selecting a song from Instagram’s library grants commercial rights on Facebook.
- If a Reel is muted, replace the audio where Meta provides that option or upload a corrected version.

How to fix Instagram Reels that will not cross-post
1. Confirm that Reel sharing is enabled
Go to Instagram profile → menu → Accounts Center → Sharing across profiles. Select the Instagram account under Share from and check that Your Instagram reels is enabled.

2. Confirm that both accounts are connected
In Accounts Center, open Accounts and verify that the intended Facebook account is linked. If the wrong Facebook account or Page is present, remove the incorrect connection and add the correct one.
3. Update both apps
Install the latest available versions of Instagram and Facebook. Meta lists outdated apps as a common cause of Reel-sharing problems.
4. Turn sharing off and on again
Disable Your Instagram reels, close and reopen Instagram and Facebook, then return to Accounts Center → Sharing across profiles and enable it again.
5. Check account restrictions
Account restrictions or limitations can block cross-posting. Open Instagram’s Account Status and look for restrictions affecting features, content, or publishing.

6. Check Page access
If the Page does not appear as a destination, confirm that you have the required Facebook access or task access and that the Instagram account is connected to that exact Page. Multiple Pages managed from the same Facebook login can make the wrong Page easy to select.
7. Report the problem
If the accounts are connected, sharing is enabled, both apps are updated, and the problem persists, use Instagram profile → menu → Help → Report a problem. These troubleshooting steps are also listed in Meta’s official help article.
