Microsoft Edge can turn a webpage into a PDF through its built-in print workflow; you do not need an extension for the standard method. Open the page, choose Settings and more (…) > Print or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS, select Save as PDF (or the PDF printer destination shown by your operating system), adjust the preview, and select Save. You can also print just a selection of text or images, remove clutter with Immersive Reader when a site supports it, and use the system print dialog if Edge does not show a needed control.

What is the quickest way to save a webpage as a PDF in Edge?

The fastest route is to open the webpage, open Edge’s print dialog, select a PDF destination, check the preview, and save the file. The labels vary slightly by operating system and Edge version, so choose the PDF option actually displayed on your computer.

  1. Open the webpage in Microsoft Edge and wait for the content you need to appear.
  2. Open printing with Settings and more (…) > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS.
  3. In the destination or printer list, select Save as PDF or the PDF printer offered by the operating system.
  4. Use the preview and print settings to choose orientation, paper size, scale, margins, pages per sheet, headers and footers, background graphics, and a page range.
  5. Select Save, choose a folder and filename, then save again.

The result is a PDF generated from the page’s print layout, not a screenshot of the browser window. If the page has a particularly busy layout, review every page in the preview before saving.

Where is “Save as PDF” in Microsoft Edge?

Save as PDF appears in the print dialog’s destination or printer control. On some systems it is an Edge destination; on others, the operating system exposes a PDF printer with a different name. If you do not see the wording exactly, look for the available destination that creates a PDF file rather than sending pages to a physical printer.

Exact labels and available destinations can change with the Edge release and the operating system. Use the option presented in your local dialog instead of trying to force a label from another platform.

How do I create the PDF step by step?

1. Prepare the page

Navigate to the article, receipt, instructions, or other page you want to retain. Let the page finish loading before opening print preview. If a site has an Immersive Reader view, decide whether you want the cleaned-up version before you print.

2. Open Edge printing

Select Settings and more (…) > Print in the upper-right menu. Keyboard users can press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS. Both routes open the print workflow documented for Edge.

3. Choose a PDF destination

Open the destination or printer menu and select Save as PDF, if that option is present. If your operating system presents a differently named PDF printer, select that destination instead. Do not select a physical printer unless you intend to print paper.

4. Set the document options

Review the preview and open More settings when you need controls beyond the first screen. Set the page range, orientation or layout, paper size, scale, pages per sheet, and margins to suit the document. The preview updates the page count and shows whether text, images, tables, and page breaks are positioned acceptably.

5. Save and name the file

Select Save. When the file picker appears, select the destination folder and enter a descriptive filename, then confirm the save. A useful name can include the subject and date, such as project-guidelines-2026-10-26.pdf, so it is easier to find later.

Which print settings matter most for a readable PDF?

Most quality problems come from print-preview settings rather than from the save operation. Change one setting at a time and use the preview to verify the effect.

Orientation and layout

Use portrait for conventional articles and letter-sized forms. Landscape can prevent wide tables or diagrams from being squeezed into narrow columns. If a page is unexpectedly split or text is cut off at the sides, test the other orientation before reducing the scale excessively.

Page range

Print all pages when the document is short, or specify a range when you need only selected pages from a long page. Check the preview’s page numbers after changing the range; a range limits what is written to the PDF but does not alter the source webpage.

Paper size

Choose the paper size that matches the document’s intended use. A mismatch between the page’s design and the selected paper can create extra page breaks, large blank areas, or clipped edges.

Scale

Scale controls how much content fits on each sheet. Lowering it can keep a wide table on one page, while increasing it may make small text easier to read when the page has generous margins. Use the preview to make sure the smallest text remains legible.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pages per sheet

One page per sheet is the clearest choice for normal reading. Multiple pages per sheet reduces the PDF’s page count but also shrinks text and images, so reserve it for reference copies where compactness matters more than comfortable reading.

Margins

Margins determine the blank space around the printed content. If the page looks cramped, increase them; if headings or tables are pushed onto additional pages, a smaller margin setting may help. The exact margin choices depend on the Edge and operating-system version.

How do I keep or remove headers, footers, and background graphics?

Edge lets you decide whether print-only decorations and page backgrounds belong in the PDF. Open More settings in the print dialog to expose these controls.

Headers and footers

Enable Headers and footers when you want Edge to add the current date in the header and page numbers in the footer. Turn the option off for a cleaner copy when those annotations are not useful. Check the preview because these additions consume space and can change page breaks.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Background graphics

Enable Background graphics when the page’s colors, shaded panels, or background images are important to its meaning or appearance. If the option is left off, those graphics are omitted even though foreground text and images may remain. Disabling backgrounds is often preferable for a plain, ink-saving document.

How can I print only part of a webpage to PDF?

You can print a selected portion instead of the entire page. This is useful for a quotation, a table, or a set of images that appears alongside navigation and unrelated material.

  1. Drag across the text or images you want to keep on the webpage.
  2. Right-click the selection.
  3. Choose Print from the context menu.
  4. In the resulting print workflow, choose Save as PDF or the available PDF destination.
  5. Check the preview and save the file.

The selection method depends on the page allowing normal text or image selection. If the context menu does not offer printing for the selection, use the full-page workflow and specify a page range, or copy the needed content into a document that you can print.

How do I make a cleaner PDF with Immersive Reader?

When a website supports Immersive Reader, printing from that view can remove surrounding advertisements, navigation, and other page furniture. It is not available on every website.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Look for the Immersive Reader icon in Edge’s address bar, or press F9 on Windows when the page supports the feature.
  2. Open Immersive Reader and confirm that the main article content is present.
  3. Open printing from that view with Settings and more (…) > Print or Ctrl+P.
  4. Select the PDF destination, review the simplified preview, and save.

Use the normal page when the reader view removes information you need, such as a chart, caption, interactive table, or required form field. Since support is site-specific, the absence of the icon means you should continue with the standard print route.

What should I do if Edge’s print dialog is missing an option?

Choose Print using system dialog to open the operating system’s printer interface. Microsoft documents Ctrl+Shift+P for the Windows system dialog and Option+Command+P for the macOS system dialog.

If no PDF destination appears, confirm that you are using a local printer list that includes the operating system’s PDF option; the exact name varies by platform and configuration.

How do I fix common PDF problems in Edge?

The file is missing page colors or images

Open More settings and enable Background graphics. Then inspect the preview again. This setting affects background colors and images; it does not guarantee that every interactive or dynamically loaded element on the webpage will print.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ads and navigation make the PDF hard to read

Use Immersive Reader when the site offers it, then print from that view. If Immersive Reader is unavailable, select only the relevant content and print the selection, or use the preview’s page range to exclude pages that contain unwanted material.

Text is too small or a table is cut off

Try landscape orientation for wide content, adjust the paper size, and reduce the scale only as much as needed. A smaller pages-per-sheet setting can improve readability. Check every affected page in preview rather than relying on the first page.

Headers or page numbers appear unexpectedly

Open More settings and turn off Headers and footers. The preview should show the document without Edge’s added date and page-number annotations.

The PDF has too many blank pages

Check the selected paper size, margins, orientation, and scale. A combination that does not match the webpage’s width can create extra page breaks; changing orientation or slightly adjusting scale and margins usually has a more predictable effect than repeatedly saving the same preview.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The save button creates a file in the wrong place

After selecting Save, use the file picker to choose the intended folder and enter the filename there. If the browser downloads directly without asking, use Edge’s download location settings to find the file, then move or rename it in your operating system.

The PDF destination is not listed

Open the system dialog with the platform shortcut, or select Print using system dialog from Edge. Because destination names differ between Windows, macOS, and Edge versions, use the PDF-capable destination that your dialog actually exposes.

Should I use Edge’s dialog or the system print dialog?

Use Edge’s dialog for the ordinary workflow and its integrated preview controls. Switch to the system dialog when you need a destination or printer setting that Edge does not expose.

Consideration Edge print dialog System print dialog
Best use Quick webpage-to-PDF saves with an integrated preview Missing destination or platform-specific printer controls
PDF destination Save as PDF when provided by Edge The PDF printer or PDF command supplied by Windows or macOS
Content retained Print-rendered webpage, with optional backgrounds and headers/footers Print-rendered webpage passed to the operating system’s print service
Preview readability Edge’s page preview and webpage-oriented settings Preview and controls supplied by the operating system and selected printer
Background graphics Toggle under More settings Availability depends on the system print interface
Immersive Reader Print after switching to the reader view when the site supports it Not a replacement for preparing the page in Edge first

What should I check before sending the PDF?

  • The destination is a PDF option, not a physical printer.
  • The first and last pages contain the expected content.
  • Wide tables, images, and headings are not clipped.
  • The selected orientation, paper size, scale, and margins produce readable text.
  • Headers and footers are either intentionally included or disabled.
  • Background graphics are enabled when colors or background images convey information.
  • The page range excludes material you do not want to distribute.
  • The filename and folder make the saved file easy to locate.

Once the preview passes this checklist, select Save and verify that the resulting PDF opens from the chosen folder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an Edge extension to make a PDF?

No. The standard Edge print workflow creates the PDF without an extension. An extension is only relevant if you need a separate service or a feature that Edge’s print controls do not provide.

Can I save a webpage as a PDF with a keyboard shortcut?

Yes. Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS to open printing directly. You still need to choose a PDF destination and complete the save step.

Why does the PDF look different from the live webpage?

A PDF uses the page’s print layout, so navigation, responsive columns, and other screen-only arrangements can change. Use the preview to adjust orientation, scale, paper size, and margins, or print from Immersive Reader when the site supports it.

Can I include only a quotation or image from a page?

Select the text or images, right-click the selection, and choose Print. If the site does not offer that command for a selection, print the full page and narrow the result with the page-range controls.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is Immersive Reader available on every Edge webpage?

No. The feature is offered only on sites and pages that support it. When its address-bar icon is absent, use the normal print workflow or print a selected portion instead.
