The quickest free method is built into your browser: open the webpage, press Ctrl+P (Windows) or Command+P (macOS), choose a PDF destination, check the preview, and save. Edge and Firefox both support this workflow. If you need to convert a URL without opening it, use a cloud converter such as PDF24, understanding that the page is processed on the provider’s servers.
Choose the right method first
Your choice depends on what you are converting and where the data may be processed.

There is no universal quality ranking: websites control their own print styles, scripts and content, so inspect the result whichever route you choose.
Save a webpage as a PDF in Microsoft Edge
- Open the page you want to preserve and wait for text, images and other dynamic sections to finish loading.
- Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS. You can also open the Edge menu and select Print. Microsoft documents this workflow in Print in Microsoft Edge.
- In the printer or destination list, select Save to PDF or the PDF printer offered by your operating system. Labels vary by platform and Edge version.
- Review the preview. Set the page range, orientation, scale and margins to fit the content. Turn on Background graphics when important colors, diagrams or images disappear.
- Choose Save, select a folder and give the file a useful name.
Remove ads and navigation when Edge offers it
Microsoft describes a clutter-free print option that removes surrounding material such as ads and site navigation. Availability and placement can vary while Edge changes its print interface. If the option is not present, try Immersive Reader on a supported page, then print the simplified view. Immersive Reader is a workaround, not a guarantee that every page will become clean.

Save a webpage as a PDF in Firefox
- Open the page and select the Firefox menu, then Print.
- In the print dialog, open Destination and choose Save to PDF.
- Set orientation, scale, margins, page range and whether headers and footers should appear.
- If offered, select Simplified format to print the article without much of the surrounding page.
- Check the preview and click Save.
Mozilla warns that webpages can be designed to look different on paper than on screen. Its explanation is in How to print web pages in Firefox. Treat the preview as the final check rather than assuming the live layout will be reproduced exactly.
Make the PDF easier to read
Fit wide pages
Use landscape orientation for spreadsheets, dashboards and wide tables. If columns still run off the page, reduce the scale gradually rather than shrinking everything immediately. Increasing margins can improve readability when the page is already narrow; reducing margins can prevent a wide article from wrapping excessively.
Keep important backgrounds
Backgrounds are often disabled by default to save ink. Enable background graphics if a chart, colored label or image has meaning that is lost on a white page. This setting cannot restore an image that never finished loading.

Print only the useful range
Select specific pages when the preview shows an unwanted comment section, navigation pages or a long footer. For an article, reader or simplified mode can remove clutter, but it may also omit interactive content.

Scroll through the page before printing so lazy-loaded images and sections are requested. Wait for cookie dialogs, sign-in prompts or loading indicators to settle. A PDF captures the rendered state available to the print engine; it does not automatically preserve every interaction on the live site.
Convert a URL online with PDF24
When you cannot or do not want to open the page in a desktop browser, PDF24 describes a browser-based workflow: enter the webpage URL, start the conversion and download the resulting PDF. PDF24 says this service is free, requires no registration and runs the conversion in its cloud. It also states that uploaded files are automatically deleted from its server after one hour. Those are PDF24’s own service statements and can change, so check its current terms before sending a sensitive URL.

- Paste the complete public URL, including
https://. - Start the conversion and wait for the service to fetch and render the page.
- Download the PDF and open it locally.
- Check page breaks, images, fonts and any content that requires a login.
A URL converter generally cannot see content hidden behind your browser session unless it provides an authenticated-upload feature. Do not assume a private, intranet or paywalled page will convert correctly.
Local versus cloud privacy
Browser printing keeps the rendering workflow on your computer. Microsoft says that printing in Edge sends print commands and file information to the local operating system, and that Microsoft Print to PDF does not send file data back to Microsoft; this is the vendor’s description, not an independent security audit. PDF24 explicitly processes conversions on its servers, so the page URL and any material required for conversion leave your device. For confidential dashboards, customer records or unpublished documents, prefer a local browser workflow unless your organization’s policy approves a cloud service.

Saving one webpage and archiving a site are different jobs. Adobe Acrobat desktop documents a web-capture workflow that can follow multiple linked levels or obtain the entire site. Its controls can restrict crawling to the same URL path or server. This is useful for a controlled documentation set, but it is unnecessary for a single-page PDF and may capture more content than intended. Define the starting URL and scope before launching a multi-level capture, then inspect the resulting files for duplicate navigation and broken links.

Troubleshooting: when the PDF is wrong
Text or images are missing
- Reload the page, wait for all loading indicators to finish and print again.
- Scroll through lazy-loaded sections before opening Print.
- Try another browser because print CSS and JavaScript support differ.
- For a cloud converter, confirm that the URL is publicly reachable without a login.
The page is too wide
- Switch to landscape.
- Reduce scale or margins in the print dialog.
- Print a selected page range instead of forcing a long horizontal layout onto portrait pages.
Background colors or images are absent
Enable background graphics. If the result remains blank, the site may load assets only after interaction, block automated requests or use a print stylesheet that intentionally removes them.

Ads, menus or cookie notices dominate the PDF
Use Firefox Simplified format, Edge Immersive Reader or a site’s own reader view where available. Dismiss consent notices before printing. ScreenshotNeo can accept consent banners and remove known popups and chat widgets before capture.
The online converter fails
Check the URL for typos, redirects and access restrictions. A page requiring your session cookies may be inaccessible to a public converter. Try local printing for authenticated content, or use an approved API with explicit cookie and header support.
Pages split awkwardly
Adjust scale, margins and orientation, then inspect the preview at each change. Web authors control page-break rules, so no setting fixes every site. Consider printing smaller sections separately when a long page has especially problematic breaks.

Cost, reliability and file handling
Browser print-to-PDF is free with Edge or Firefox and has no third-party upload for the normal local workflow. Online conversion is convenient but depends on the provider fetching the page successfully and retaining files according to its policy; PDF24 states a one-hour deletion interval. For repeatable developer workflows, an API can add waits, cookies, headers, caching and asynchronous jobs, but you must monitor response status and billing headers and store the returned file securely.

Why does my PDF look different from the webpage?
