To control Meta AI data, first identify what you want removed: a remembered fact, the AI’s copy of conversation history, a chat shown in your history list, or your entire Meta account. Those are different records and require different controls. In a Meta AI conversation, use the memory-management option for a saved detail, /reset-ai for that AI’s chat-history copy, or /reset-all-ais for copies held by all Meta AIs. Delete the visible chat separately, and use Accounts Center only when you intend to remove the whole account. Menus and availability vary by app, platform and region, so verify each result rather than assuming one deletion removes every copy.
What can Meta AI remember about me?
Meta says its AI can remember certain details that you tell it in one-to-one conversations. The described rollout excludes group chats, and Meta says users can delete memories. The initial announcement covered Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp on iOS and Android in the United States and Canada; that announcement does not establish identical availability worldwide today.
A remembered detail is not the same thing as the messages you can see in a chat list. Meta’s systems can also hold a copy of conversation history for an AI, while your account has its own records and settings. Treat these as separate targets:

Deleting one target should not be treated as proof that the others are gone. After any action, check the relevant memory, chat-history and account controls independently.

How do I delete a detail Meta AI remembers?
Open the Meta AI conversation or the current app settings and look for the memory notice, memory-management entry or equivalent control. Select the specific remembered item and follow the deletion confirmation shown by your app.
Why the menu may look different
Meta’s announcement confirms that memories can be deleted, but it does not promise one permanent menu label for every platform. The control can differ by Facebook, Messenger or WhatsApp, by iOS versus Android, and as features roll out. If you do not see a memory option, update the app, open the one-to-one Meta AI chat where the detail was supplied, and check the current privacy or AI settings. Do not infer that a missing menu means no data exists.
What memory deletion does not establish
Removing a memory item addresses that saved detail. It does not, by itself, confirm that a visible conversation was deleted or that every AI’s copy of the chat history was cleared. Use the separate reset and chat-deletion controls when those are your goals.
How do I clear Meta AI’s stored conversation history?
Meta’s AI system card documents two commands. Send the command as a message in the relevant Meta AI chat, then read and complete any confirmation or follow-up the app provides.
- For one AI, enter
/reset-aiand send it. Meta documents this as deleting a single AI’s copy of your chat history. - For every Meta AI, enter
/reset-all-aisand send it. Meta documents this as deleting all of the AIs’ copies of your chat history across all AIs. - Wait for the in-app response. If a confirmation or additional step appears, complete it before leaving the conversation.
- Check the chat and any memory-management screen separately; a reset command is not the same as deleting the visible thread or an individual memory item.
Choosing between the two commands

The system-card wording describes what each command is intended to delete, but it does not state that either command removes every account record, every visible message, or every remembered item. Handle those separately.

How do I delete a visible Meta AI conversation?
Use the app’s current delete-chat control on the conversation in your history list. The exact gesture and label can change, so follow the control displayed by your version of Facebook, Messenger or WhatsApp.
- Open the app that contains the Meta AI thread.
- Find the conversation in the chat list.
- Open the conversation’s options menu and choose the current delete-chat action.
- Confirm the deletion if prompted.
- Return to the list to verify that the thread is no longer displayed.
This is a history-list action. A chat disappearing from the list does not, on its own, prove that a memory entry or an AI’s separate history copy was removed. If the content is sensitive, run the appropriate reset command and inspect memory controls as well.

Not necessarily. A visible chat, a saved memory and an AI’s history copy are distinct targets. Deleting the thread can remove it from the list you see, while a memory entry or another AI’s copy may require a separate action. There is no basis to promise that one deletion erases every copy.
A practical deletion sequence
- Delete the specific memory item through the memory-management control.
- Send
/reset-ai, or use/reset-all-aisif you want all AIs’ copies addressed. - Delete the visible conversation from the app’s chat list.
- Reopen the relevant settings and confirm which items, if any, remain.
The sequence is intentionally explicit: it lets you match each action to the record you want removed instead of relying on an ambiguous “clear” label.
How do I delete my entire Facebook or Meta account?
Account deletion is a much broader step than removing Meta AI data. Open Facebook or Instagram settings, enter Accounts Center, and use the account-ownership or account-control area to start deletion for the account you select. Read the confirmation screens carefully, because the selected account and cancellation period determine what will be removed and when.

Important consequence for messages
Meta warns that messages you sent to friends can remain visible in their inboxes after your account is deleted. Account deletion therefore cannot guarantee that recipients’ copies of messages disappear. It is also generally permanent after the applicable cancellation period, unlike deleting one chat from your own list.
When account deletion is disproportionate
If your goal is only to remove a remembered fact or Meta AI history, use the narrower controls first. Choose account deletion only when you intend to leave the service and remove the broader account content covered by the confirmation screens.
Where do Accounts Center and connected-account settings fit?
Accounts Center is Meta’s place for managing connected experiences across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Meta accounts. Open Facebook or Instagram settings, select Accounts Center, and review connected experiences and account controls relevant to the account you are changing.
Availability is regional: Meta notes that WhatsApp and some other controls may not be available in Accounts Center everywhere. Seeing one account in the center does not prove that every linked service or AI setting is represented there. For a Meta AI memory or chat, use the control in the service where the conversation or setting appears, then use Accounts Center for broader account actions.
Is Meta AI listening to me through my microphone?
Memory controls and microphone permissions are separate privacy issues. Meta’s Privacy Center says microphone access requires your permission and that the microphone is used when a microphone-dependent feature is actively being used. It also states that Meta does not use the microphone without permission.

How to check microphone access
- Open your phone’s system settings and find the app-permissions page for Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp or the app you use.
- Review the microphone permission and set it to the level you are comfortable with, such as while-using or denied where your device offers those choices.
- Check Meta’s in-app privacy controls for voice or other microphone-dependent features.
- Revisit permissions after an app update or when enabling a new voice feature.
Changing microphone permission does not delete memories or chat history. Conversely, deleting an AI conversation does not change the operating-system permission that allows or blocks microphone access.
Why does Meta AI refer to earlier messages?
Meta AI uses earlier messages in the same conversation as context. That context helps it respond without requiring you to repeat information, but it also means that starting a new chat can change what the AI can reference.
Starting a new chat is not a deletion command. If you need the old history or a saved detail removed, use the reset and memory controls described above; do not rely on a new thread to erase the previous one.

- Check the account and app: Make sure you are in the Facebook, Messenger or WhatsApp account that contains the Meta AI interaction.
- Update the app: Install the current version available for your device, then reopen the conversation and settings.
- Check the rollout: Memory features were initially announced for iOS and Android in the United States and Canada, and Meta documents regional variation in Accounts Center. A control may not yet be offered in your location.
- Use the exact command: Enter
/reset-aior/reset-all-aisin the Meta AI conversation, including the leading slash. - Wait for confirmation: Follow any response or confirmation shown in the thread; do not assume that sending a command silently completed the operation.
- Check each target: Inspect the memory-management entry, AI chat-history response and visible chat list independently.
- Escalate through in-app help: If the command is rejected or the account-control page is unavailable, use the app’s current help or privacy-reporting route and record the app, platform and region.
Do not substitute account deletion for a missing memory control unless you truly intend to remove the whole account. Likewise, do not claim success based only on a disappearing chat preview.

How can I tell whether Meta AI stored a memory about me?
Look in the one-to-one Meta AI conversation or the current app settings for a memory notice or memory-management entry. If the interface does not expose one, the absence of a visible notice is not proof that no account or conversation data exists; availability depends on rollout, platform and region.
Can I undo a Meta AI reset after sending the command?
The documented commands are deletion controls, not backup or restore tools. Save any information you may need before resetting, because the available interface may not provide a way to recover the deleted AI-history copy.
Why might a reset command show no confirmation?
The response can depend on the app version, account, rollout and connection state. Reopen the same Meta AI thread, check for an error or follow-up prompt, and use the app’s help or privacy-reporting route if the command is rejected or remains ambiguous.

Account deletion does not give you control over copies already delivered to other people’s inboxes. Their existing message history can remain visible even after your account has been removed.
