You can connect Spotify to an AI assistant by selecting Spotify in the assistant, signing in to the Spotify account you want to use, and approving the access requested on Spotify’s authorization screen. In ChatGPT, you can start by mentioning Spotify in a prompt or selecting it from the app directory; Spotify says the connection is opt-in and can be disconnected at any time. Before you approve, distinguish Spotify’s account authorization from ChatGPT’s separate controls for asking before app actions.
What can a Spotify-connected AI assistant do?
Spotify’s October 6, 2025 announcement says ChatGPT can surface songs, artists, albums, playlists, and podcast episodes, and can recommend music based on a mood, theme, or topic. Spotify describes different personalization options by tier: Free listeners can draw from catalog playlists such as Discover Weekly and New Music Friday, while Premium listeners can turn more elaborate prompts into a fresh personalized selection. Those are Spotify’s descriptions of the integration, not a guarantee that every feature appears for every account or location.
Spotify’s April 23, 2026 announcement describes its Claude integration as supporting recommendations, previews, saving results, playback in Claude, opening results in Spotify, and switching playback devices with Spotify Connect. The announcements therefore describe different sets of actions. Do not assume that an action available in one assistant—such as playback controls or saving results—is also available in another.

A recommendation or generated selection is not necessarily the same thing as a saved Spotify playlist. ChatGPT can help surface and personalize music, but the described ChatGPT features do not establish that it will create and save a playlist in your library. Claude’s announcement specifically says users can save results; check the assistant’s response and Spotify account to confirm what was actually saved.

How do I connect Spotify to ChatGPT?
Connect from the account you intend to use, then review Spotify’s consent screen before granting access. The exact menu names and entry points can differ by account, region, plan, workspace, role, model, and interface.
- Open ChatGPT and start a conversation. You can begin by asking for something that uses Spotify, such as a recommendation, or open the app directory if you prefer to select it directly.
- Find Spotify. Mention Spotify in your prompt, or open Settings and choose Apps or Plugins, then select Spotify if it is available. Some interfaces may let you choose an app from the plus or More menu.
- Select Connect and sign in. Use the Spotify account that contains the playlists, listening context, or other information you want the assistant to use. If the wrong account is already signed in to Spotify, switch accounts before approving.
- Review the Spotify authorization screen. Read the requested services and permissions for the selected account. Approve only if they match what you expect and want the integration to do.
- Return to ChatGPT and invoke Spotify. Mention Spotify in your request, select it from the plus or More menu, or use the app surface offered in your interface.
Spotify says a first use prompts you to connect. After connecting, try a specific request—for example, asking for music for a particular mood or topic—rather than assuming that simply connecting starts playback or changes your library.
What permissions does Spotify need in ChatGPT?
There are two separate permission layers: Spotify authorizes access to services for the Spotify account you choose, while ChatGPT’s app-permission setting determines when ChatGPT asks before using access already granted. Changing one layer does not substitute for changing the other.
Spotify’s account authorization
When you sign in and approve the provider’s consent screen, you authorize the requested services for that Spotify account. OpenAI advises choosing the account that already has the information you need and reviewing the requested permissions before approving. The actual permission list is shown during authorization; it should not be inferred from a generic description of the integration. If the screen requests access you do not understand or do not want, do not approve it until you have clarified what it permits.
ChatGPT’s app-permission controls
ChatGPT offers app permission modes labeled Always ask, Allow read actions, Allow low-risk actions, and, for eligible connections, Allow all actions. These govern when ChatGPT asks before using access that has already been granted; they do not grant Spotify new access. Higher-risk actions may still require confirmation or be denied, and workspace policies can override account settings.

Choose a mode based on how much review you want, not as a substitute for reading Spotify’s consent screen. If you prefer to approve each use, Always ask is the most confirmation-oriented option. Broader modes may reduce prompts for actions they cover, but they do not override an action-specific confirmation requirement or a workspace restriction.
What to check before approving
- Confirm the Spotify account name or identity shown is the one you meant to connect.
- Read the requested services on Spotify’s authorization screen rather than assuming the assistant only needs the narrowest possible access.
- Decide separately how ChatGPT should ask before using actions once Spotify access is connected.
- If this is a work or managed account, account settings may be constrained by workspace policy.

For example: “Use Spotify to recommend upbeat indie songs for a 30-minute run,” or “Find Spotify podcasts about urban gardening for a beginner.” You can also ask for an album, artist, or catalog playlist by name. These are prompt examples, not guaranteed commands: available results depend on the connected account and the integration features available to you.
Understand what “make a playlist” means
If you want a newly personalized selection, Spotify says Premium listeners can turn more elaborate prompts into a fresh personalized selection; Free listeners can draw from catalog playlists including Discover Weekly and New Music Friday. The announcement does not establish that ChatGPT will save a newly generated selection as a playlist in your library. If saving matters, ask what the assistant can do in your session and verify the result in Spotify rather than treating recommendations as a saved playlist.
Spotify’s described ChatGPT feature set centers on surfacing and recommending content. Playback controls, previews, saving, and device switching are specifically described in Spotify’s Claude announcement, not established here as ChatGPT capabilities.

How do I review, reconnect, or disconnect Spotify?
Open ChatGPT’s app settings, select Spotify, and look for the connected account’s settings or more-options menu. You can review the connection, reconnect if the wrong account is in use, or disconnect to stop future access.

- Choose Reconnect if offered, sign in to the intended Spotify account, and review any newly requested permissions before approving.
- To stop future access, choose Disconnect.
Disconnecting one account does not disconnect other connected accounts. It also does not automatically delete existing ChatGPT conversations, saved files, or memories, according to OpenAI. If your aim is to remove prior conversation content as well as stop future app access, treat those as separate tasks and review ChatGPT’s controls for the relevant content.
Why can’t I find Spotify or complete authorization?
Availability depends on factors beyond whether Spotify exists as an integration: plan, region, account, workspace, role, model, and interface can all matter. If the app is missing or connection fails, work through the checks below rather than repeatedly approving a screen without confirming the account or requested permissions.
Spotify is not listed
- Check both the app directory and the conversation’s plus or More menu, since entry points and labels vary.
- Check whether your plan, region, selected model, account role, or workspace permits the app.
- If you use a managed workspace, ask whether an administrator or workspace policy restricts the integration.
Sign-in or authorization fails
- Verify that you are signing in to the Spotify account you intend to connect.
- Read the provider authorization screen and check whether all requested permissions are acceptable.
- Check for workspace restrictions or provider-admin approval requirements if the account is managed.
- If you previously connected the wrong account, use the connection’s settings or more-options menu and choose Reconnect if available.
Do not assume a missing app means your Spotify account is ineligible, or that a successful sign-in means every assistant feature is available. The integration’s availability and the actions exposed after connection can vary independently.

Spotify’s two announcements also refer to support across more than 2,000 devices. That figure describes Spotify’s device ecosystem, not a count of devices that can run either AI assistant or a guarantee that every device supports each integration feature.

Does connecting Spotify to ChatGPT let it see everything in my account?
The information available depends on the services listed on Spotify’s authorization screen and the app actions exposed in your ChatGPT session. Review that screen for the account you are connecting; a general feature description does not enumerate every permission granted.
Can I connect a different Spotify account after I already connected one?

Will disconnecting Spotify delete my ChatGPT conversations?
