You can listen to YouTube Music from a compatible Garmin watch, but the watch uses downloaded playlists and podcast episodes rather than streaming. Install the YouTube Music Connect IQ app, sign in through Garmin Connect on your phone, sync content over Wi‑Fi, then pair Bluetooth headphones directly with the watch. Once content is downloaded, the phone is not required for playback. YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium is required, and headphone buttons such as volume, pause, and skip may not work with every model.
What do I need before setting up YouTube Music on a Garmin watch?
Prepare the watch, phone, account, network and headphones before opening the app. Music support is model-specific, so a Garmin watch that supports other music services may not necessarily support YouTube Music.
| Requirement | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Garmin watch | The exact model appears on Garmin and YouTube’s Connect IQ device-compatibility list for YouTube Music. |
| Phone | Garmin Connect is installed, signed in and able to communicate with the watch over Bluetooth during setup. |
| YouTube account | You have an active YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium subscription. Brand Accounts cannot be used with this integration. |
| Wi‑Fi | The watch can reach a Wi‑Fi network for downloading playlists and podcast episodes. |
| Headphones | Bluetooth headphones that can pair directly with the watch, not only with the phone. |
Garmin says the service’s 2024 catalog included more than 100 million songs, but only the playlists and podcast episodes you download to the watch are available when you leave the phone and Wi‑Fi behind.

Use the Connect IQ compatibility information for your exact watch model before installing anything. Music features are not universal across the Garmin range.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open the Garmin Connect IQ mobile app.
- View the device selected in the app and confirm its exact model name.
- Check the YouTube Music listing’s supported-device information for that model.
- If the model is absent, update Garmin Connect and the watch software, then check again. Do not assume that an absent app is a temporary store error; support is determined by the watch model.
Checking the model first prevents a common dead end: searching the app store repeatedly on a watch that cannot run the app.
How do I install YouTube Music on the watch?
Installation is handled through Garmin Connect IQ on the phone, while playback happens on the watch.
- Open Garmin Connect IQ on the phone.
- Select the Garmin watch you want to configure.
- Search for YouTube Music and choose the app.
- Tap the install option and wait for the app to transfer to the watch.
- Open YouTube Music on the watch after installation completes.
Keep the watch and phone close together during installation. If the app does not appear, confirm that the selected device in Connect IQ is the watch you actually wear and that both Garmin Connect and the watch software are current.
How do I sign in to YouTube Music from a Garmin watch?
Sign-in uses a code shown on the watch and an approval flow in Garmin Connect; you do not type a full password on the watch.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Launch YouTube Music on the watch.
- When the watch displays a sign-in code, open Garmin Connect on the paired phone.
- Tap the Garmin Connect sign-in notification.
- Enter the code shown on the watch.
- Sign in to YouTube Music when prompted.
- Select the YouTube account you want to synchronize.
- Accept the Connect IQ terms to finish linking the service.
Use a standard YouTube account rather than a Brand Account. Brand Accounts are not compatible, so the library may appear empty or the account-selection step may fail if you choose one.
How do I download playlists and podcasts to the Garmin watch?
Downloads are the central part of this setup. YouTube Music Help states that streaming is not available with Garmin smartwatches, so sync the listening material before leaving Wi‑Fi.
- Open YouTube Music on the watch.
- Choose Music, Podcasts or Library from the app.
- Select a playlist or a podcast episode.
- Start the sync and leave the watch near the Wi‑Fi access point.
- For a large transfer, connect the watch to its charger as Garmin recommends.
- Wait for the download to finish before disconnecting from Wi‑Fi or the phone.
Wi‑Fi is used for the content transfer; the phone’s mobile-data connection is not a substitute for a watch download. A playlist that is visible in your online library but has not finished syncing will not be available for standalone playback.
How do I pair Bluetooth headphones directly with the Garmin watch?
Pair the headphones from the watch’s music or Bluetooth controls, not merely from the phone’s Bluetooth settings. The watch must establish its own Bluetooth audio connection.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Put the headphones into pairing mode.
- On the watch, open the music or Bluetooth settings used for audio devices.
- Choose the option to add or pair headphones.
- Select the headphones when their name appears.
- Confirm the connection, then return to YouTube Music.
Garmin says most Bluetooth headphones are compatible. Compatibility does not guarantee that every headset button will work: volume, pause and skip commands can vary by headphone model and watch model. If audio plays but a button does nothing, use the watch controls or test another Bluetooth pair.
How do I play and control downloaded YouTube Music?
After the download and headphone pairing are complete, playback starts from the YouTube Music Home screen or Downloads area on the watch.
- Open YouTube Music on the watch.
- Choose a downloaded playlist or podcast episode from Home or Downloads.
- Start playback and adjust the watch volume to a comfortable level.
- Use the playback controls to pause or resume, skip forward or backward, and change volume.
- Use shuffle or repeat when those modes are available for the selected content.
The watch can control the downloaded audio without keeping the phone connected. Headphone controls are an optional convenience rather than a dependable requirement; the on-watch controls remain the fallback when a headset’s buttons are not recognized.

The offline boundary is important: the watch cannot fetch a new playlist or stream a song while away from the required connection. Plan downloads before a run, flight or other trip, and verify that the intended items appear under Downloads while the watch is still online.
What should I compare when choosing a Garmin watch and headphones?
Choose the watch for its YouTube Music support and ability to store and sync audio; choose headphones for reliable wear and Bluetooth behavior with that watch.
| Equipment | Comparison points | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Garmin watch | Connect IQ and YouTube Music compatibility | Determines whether the app can be installed at all. |
| Garmin watch | Onboard music storage | Determines how much downloaded listening material can be kept on the watch. |
| Garmin watch | Wi‑Fi availability | Needed to synchronize playlists and podcast episodes without relying on the phone. |
| Garmin watch | Physical music controls | Useful when you want to operate playback without tapping the display during exercise. |
| Bluetooth headphones | Bluetooth compatibility and wireless range | Affects whether the headphones pair successfully and maintain a connection while the watch is worn. |
| Bluetooth headphones | Fit and stability during exercise | Helps keep the headphones secure during movement. |
| Bluetooth headphones | Battery life and water or sweat resistance | Determines whether they suit the length and conditions of your workouts. |
| Bluetooth headphones | Volume, pause and skip behavior with the chosen watch | These commands are not guaranteed across every headphone model. |
Test the complete combination—watch, headphones and the downloaded content—before relying on it for a long workout. A headset that pairs successfully can still have limited button support.

How do I fix common YouTube Music and Bluetooth problems?
The YouTube Music app does not appear
- Check the exact watch model against the Connect IQ compatibility information.
- Update Garmin Connect on the phone.
- Install any available watch software update, then reopen Connect IQ.
If the model is not supported, updates cannot add the app to that watch.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.

- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.

The sign-in notification or code does not work
- Enable Garmin Connect notifications on the phone.
- Make sure the phone and watch are connected over Bluetooth.
- Keep Garmin Connect open while entering the code.
- Restart the sign-in flow if the displayed code has expired or the notification was dismissed.
The playlist or library is missing
- Confirm that you selected the intended YouTube Music account during sign-in.
- Move the watch near a stable Wi‑Fi access point and retry the sync.
- Check that the selected item is supported content and that the download has completed.
- If the library remains empty, sign out of YouTube Music on the watch and complete the sign-in process again.
There is no sound
- Open the watch’s music or Bluetooth menu and pair the headphones to the watch itself.
- Check that the headphones are not still connected to another phone, tablet or computer.
- Raise the volume on both the watch and the headphones.
- Start a confirmed download from the watch’s Downloads area rather than an online-only item.
Headphone buttons do not pause, skip or change volume
Garmin documents that these controls may not work with every headphone model. Continue playback from the watch’s on-screen controls, or try another compatible pair if button operation is important to you.
What are the practical limits of this setup?
- It is download-based: streaming is unavailable on Garmin smartwatches, so every playlist or podcast episode must be synced ahead of time.
- Setup still needs a phone: Garmin Connect handles installation, code-based sign-in and account selection.
- Premium access is required: Garmin announced on June 12, 2024 that YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium is required.
- Headphone controls vary: audio compatibility is broad, but button behavior is not universal.
- Account type matters: Brand Accounts cannot be used for this integration.
Frequently Asked Questions
When did Garmin announce the YouTube Music integration?
Garmin announced the integration on June 12, 2024. The announcement described support for adding both playlists and podcasts to compatible Garmin watches for YouTube Music subscribers.
How large is the YouTube Music catalog available to Garmin users?
Garmin described YouTube Music as offering more than 100 million songs in 2024. A Garmin watch does not hold that entire catalog; it stores only the material you select and successfully download.
Can I use any Bluetooth earbuds if they pair with my phone?
Phone pairing alone does not prove that the earbuds will pair with the watch. Pair them from the Garmin watch’s own Bluetooth or music menu, then verify playback and the specific controls you need.
