Use HDMI ARC or eARC if your Toshiba Fire TV and soundbar both support it. Connect the cable to the TV’s ARC/eARC socket, select HDMI on the soundbar, enable Toshiba’s HDMI-CEC feature (usually called CE-Link or Regza Link), and choose the soundbar or audio system as the TV output. This single connection normally provides the best lip-sync performance and lets the Fire TV remote control volume and power. If your TV or soundbar lacks ARC/eARC, use optical audio. Bluetooth works on compatible Fire TV models, but it is more prone to latency and pairing problems. For a delay, start with Fire TV’s Settings > Display & Audio > Audio > AV Sync Tuning, then adjust Toshiba’s Lip Sync or Digital Audio Output Delay controls if your model provides them.

Which connection should you use?

Choose the connection that matches your equipment and your priority. HDMI ARC/eARC is the most integrated option, optical is the dependable wired fallback, and Bluetooth is useful when you need cable-free placement. The exact audio formats, menu names, and delay behavior depend on the Toshiba Fire TV model, Fire OS version, and soundbar.

Connection Cable or pairing requirement Remote-control support Audio-format and delay considerations
HDMI ARC/eARC High-speed HDMI cable from the TV’s ARC/eARC port to the soundbar’s ARC/eARC input Usually the best option: HDMI-CEC allows the Fire TV remote to control soundbar volume and power Most integrated path; generally the best starting point for lip sync. Supported formats vary by the TV and soundbar.
Optical (Toslink) Toslink cable from the TV optical output to the soundbar optical input Normally requires separate soundbar controls unless your equipment provides another control method Reliable wired fallback. Set a compatible digital format such as PCM or Dolby Digital; capabilities are narrower than an ARC/eARC setup on some systems.
Bluetooth Pair the soundbar in the Fire TV Bluetooth menu; disconnect HDMI or optical first Volume behavior varies by model and pairing implementation Convenient for cable-free placement, but pairing failures and noticeable latency are more likely than with a wired connection.

Do not assume that an ordinary HDMI input will carry TV audio back to a soundbar. The socket must be labeled ARC or eARC on the Toshiba TV, and the soundbar must have a matching ARC/eARC input.

How do I connect a soundbar with HDMI ARC or eARC?

HDMI ARC/eARC should be your first choice when both devices support it. It carries the TV’s audio over one cable and, with HDMI-CEC enabled, lets the Fire TV remote operate the soundbar.

1. Locate the matching ports

Look along the Toshiba TV’s side or rear panel for an HDMI socket marked ARC or eARC. On the soundbar, find the HDMI socket labeled HDMI OUT (ARC), TV-ARC, or eARC. A socket labeled only HDMI IN is not the soundbar connection for returning TV audio.

2. Connect a high-speed HDMI cable

Run a high-speed HDMI cable directly between the two labeled ports. Avoid routing the bar through another device while you are troubleshooting; a direct TV-to-soundbar connection makes the audio handoff easier to verify.

3. Select HDMI on the soundbar

Turn on the soundbar and choose its HDMI, TV-ARC, or eARC input with the remote or the bar’s input button. If it remains on Optical, Bluetooth, or another source, the TV can be configured correctly and still produce no sound.

4. Turn on Toshiba HDMI-CEC

Open the Toshiba TV’s settings and enable HDMI-CEC. Toshiba commonly labels this feature CE-Link or Regza Link; the exact menu location and wording vary by model and software. Toshiba’s manual instructs users to set CEC Control to On when connecting a soundbar with HDMI.

5. Select the audio system as the TV output

In the TV’s sound or audio-output menu, choose Soundbar, Audio System, or the equivalent external-audio option rather than TV speakers. The Fire TV setup is designed so that the TV remote can control the soundbar’s volume and power through ARC/eARC and CEC.

6. Test before adding other devices

Play a known program, raise the volume with the Fire TV remote, and confirm that the bar responds. If there is no audio, leave the other HDMI devices disconnected until the ARC link works; reconnect them one at a time afterward.

How do I connect a soundbar with optical audio?

Optical is the practical fallback when ARC/eARC is unavailable, unreliable, or missing from the soundbar. It uses a separate cable and normally does not provide the same HDMI-CEC volume and power integration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Connect the cable: plug a Toslink optical cable into the Toshiba TV’s optical or digital-audio output and the soundbar’s optical input. Remove any protective caps from the cable ends before inserting them.
  2. Choose Optical on the bar: switch the soundbar input to Optical, Digital In, or the label used by that model.
  3. Choose the TV’s digital output: open the Toshiba sound settings and select optical/digital output instead of TV speakers.
  4. Set a compatible format: start with PCM if you need the broadest compatibility. Toshiba documentation also identifies Dolby Audio, including Dolby Digital for optical-connected external devices, as an available choice on supported models.
  5. Check volume behavior: use the soundbar remote if the Fire TV remote does not change the bar’s level. Optical does not use the HDMI-CEC control path.

If the optical cable is connected but silent, verify that the plugs are fully seated and that the red light is visible at the cable’s TV end when it is disconnected briefly. Reconnect it before testing and make sure the bar is not still set to HDMI or Bluetooth.

Can I connect the soundbar by Bluetooth?

Bluetooth is available on compatible Fire TV devices and can solve a cable-routing problem, but it is the least predictable choice for television dialogue. Amazon warns that a wired HDMI or optical connection should be disconnected before Bluetooth pairing because using Bluetooth alongside a wired connection can cause connection issues.

  1. Disconnect the HDMI and optical cables from the TV or soundbar while pairing.
  2. Put the soundbar into Bluetooth pairing mode according to its instructions.
  3. On Fire TV, open the Bluetooth device section in Settings, select the soundbar, and confirm the pairing request.
  4. Start a program with clear dialogue and check for both sound and lip-sync accuracy.

Keep the soundbar within a reasonable wireless range and remove old or duplicate pairings if Fire TV repeatedly chooses the wrong device. If the connection drops or voices lag, switch back to HDMI ARC/eARC or optical; a wired path is usually easier to keep synchronized.

How do I fix audio delay and lip sync on Fire TV?

Use Fire TV’s built-in AV Sync Tuning first. It displays a test animation while a tone plays, allowing you to match the sound to the visual event instead of guessing at a number.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Run AV Sync Tuning

  1. On the Fire TV home screen, open Settings.
  2. Choose Display & Audio.
  3. Select Audio, then AV Sync Tuning.
  4. Watch the test animation and listen for the tone. Press the left and right buttons to move the timing slider while the test repeats.
  5. Move the setting to the right when the tone occurs before the flash. Move it to the left when the tone occurs after the flash.
  6. Press Select or OK when the tone and flash appear aligned.

Amazon describes this control as the AV Sync Slider and directs users to Settings when they need to correct audio delay. Use the test animation at your normal viewing distance and with the soundbar at the volume you usually use; a setting that looks right at one extreme may be harder to judge at another.

Use Toshiba’s additional timing controls when available

Some Toshiba models expose separate controls under Settings > Sound > Sound Bar Settings. Look for Lip Sync or Digital Audio Output Delay. Toshiba’s manual notes that Digital Audio Output Delay applies when the audio output is ARC or SPDIF, while Lip Sync availability depends on the selected audio-output mode. If these items are absent, use AV Sync Tuning and the output-format tests below instead of assuming the TV is faulty.

What should I change if AV Sync Tuning does not solve the delay?

A delay can come from the connection, the audio format, duplicated speakers, or processing inside the soundbar. Change one variable at a time and rerun the Fire TV sync test after each change.

Test PCM and Dolby Digital before Passthrough

Fire TV audio settings expose PCM, Dolby Digital, Passthrough, and Auto options. If Passthrough produces a persistent lag, test PCM first, then Dolby Digital if your soundbar supports it. These choices are model-dependent: keep the setting that produces synchronized dialogue and acceptable sound on your particular TV and bar.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Prevent two speaker paths from playing at once

Confirm that the TV’s internal speakers are disabled or that the output is explicitly set to the external soundbar/audio system. Hearing the TV speaker and the bar together can sound like an echo and can be mistaken for a delay.

Prefer a wired connection for diagnosis

If you were using Bluetooth, disconnect it and test HDMI ARC/eARC. If ARC/eARC is unavailable, test optical. This isolates wireless latency and pairing behavior from the TV’s own timing controls.

Check the bar’s own processing modes

Temporarily turn off optional sound modes that add processing, such as a surround or voice-enhancement mode, if the soundbar provides them. Recheck lip sync, then enable modes again individually so you can identify whether a particular mode changes timing. The names and behavior of these modes are specific to the soundbar.

Why is there no sound from the soundbar?

Work through this checklist in order. It covers the common handoff failures without changing several settings at once.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Verify the port: for HDMI, the cable must be in the Toshiba TV’s ARC/eARC socket, not an ordinary HDMI input.
  • Match the source: the soundbar input must match the physical connection—HDMI, Optical, or Bluetooth.
  • Select external output: choose Soundbar or Audio System in the TV audio-output menu.
  • Enable CEC for HDMI: turn on CE-Link, Regza Link, or the TV’s equivalent HDMI-CEC setting.
  • Power-cycle the bar: unplug the soundbar for 30 seconds, reconnect its power and HDMI cable, and test again.
  • Remove competing HDMI devices: temporarily disconnect other HDMI equipment if the audio handoff still fails, then reconnect each device separately.
  • Check the format: if optical is silent, switch the TV output to PCM and test again; Dolby Digital may work when the bar supports it.
  • Check mute and volume independently: verify that neither the TV nor the soundbar is muted and that the bar’s display or indicator shows a changing level.

After each correction, play the same source for a few seconds. If audio returns only after a reboot, repeat the test after reconnecting the other HDMI devices one at a time to identify which device disrupts the ARC negotiation.

What do CE-Link and Regza Link mean on a Toshiba TV?

CE-Link and Regza Link are Toshiba names commonly used for HDMI-CEC, the control system that lets compatible HDMI devices exchange power and volume commands. Turning it on is especially important for an ARC/eARC soundbar because it allows the Fire TV remote to control the bar through the TV.

The label and menu location vary across Toshiba models and software revisions. Search the TV settings for CE-Link, Regza Link, CEC Control, HDMI Control, or a similarly worded HDMI-device-control option. If one label is missing, consult the on-screen help or the manual for that model rather than assuming ARC is unsupported; the audio-return port and CEC control are related but separately configurable functions.

How can I tell whether the TV or the soundbar is causing the delay?

Use a controlled comparison. First run Fire TV’s AV Sync Tuning with the soundbar connected. Then switch temporarily to the TV’s internal speakers and play the same scene. If the internal speakers are synchronized but the bar is not, the connection, soundbar processing, or selected audio format is the likely variable. If both outputs are late by the same amount, leave the bar unchanged and retest the source or Fire TV setting.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Next, compare HDMI ARC/eARC with optical if both are available. Keep the same program, volume, and TV picture settings, and change only the cable and selected input. A consistent improvement on one path identifies the more suitable connection for that TV and soundbar combination.

What setup should I use after everything works?

Once audio is stable, document the working arrangement so a future reset is quick:

  • Write down the Toshiba TV HDMI port label and the soundbar input used.
  • Record whether CE-Link or Regza Link is enabled.
  • Note the Fire TV audio format that passed the sync test: Auto, PCM, Dolby Digital, or Passthrough.
  • Record the AV Sync Tuning position and any Toshiba Lip Sync or Digital Audio Output Delay value.
  • Keep the unused optical or Bluetooth path disconnected while HDMI ARC/eARC is your active connection.

When you change a source device, update Fire OS, reset the TV, or change the soundbar’s audio mode, rerun the sync animation. Timing can change after a processing mode or output format changes, so the saved value is a starting point rather than a universal number.

Which option is best for your situation?

Your situation Recommended path Reason

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Toshiba TV not show CE-Link or Regza Link?

Toshiba changes the HDMI-CEC label and menu location between models and software versions. Look for CEC Control, HDMI Control, or another HDMI-device-control entry in the TV settings; if none appears, use the model’s manual to identify the equivalent setting.

Should I leave Fire TV audio on Auto after fixing lip sync?

Not necessarily. Auto can select a different format when the source changes, so keep the format that remained synchronized in your tests. If a later app or program introduces a new delay, rerun AV Sync Tuning after checking whether the selected format changed.

Why does the soundbar work until I reconnect another HDMI device?

Another HDMI device can interfere with the ARC/CEC handoff. Disconnect the other devices, establish audio with the TV and soundbar alone, then reconnect each device separately to find the one that disrupts the connection.

Can I keep Bluetooth paired while using HDMI ARC?

Keep the wired path active by disconnecting or disabling the Bluetooth connection during testing. Amazon warns that Bluetooth used alongside HDMI or optical can create connection issues, and the TV may select an unintended audio route.
