The best membership is usually the one tied to the retailer your household already uses. In the U.S., Amazon Prime, Walmart+ and Target Circle 360 charge similar annual fees but deliver different kinds of value. Parcel shipping, same-day store delivery, return convenience, rewards, fuel discounts and entertainment bundles should be evaluated separately. Start with the fees you actually paid during the past year, then add only the value of benefits you would otherwise purchase or use. Prices, eligibility, delivery coverage and promotional offers can change, so confirm the current terms before joining.
What should you compare before choosing a shopping membership?
Compare each plan against your own shopping pattern, not against its headline list of perks. A membership can pay for itself through avoided delivery charges while offering little value to someone who rarely orders from that retailer. Conversely, a plan with a higher fee can be worthwhile if it replaces frequent same-day delivery charges or provides a return option you would use.

- Retailer fit: Count orders from the retailer you already use, including grocery, household and marketplace purchases that qualify.
- Delivery type: Separate parcel shipping from delivery by a nearby store. They have different order minimums, coverage areas and possible fees.
- Returns: Measure both the length of the return window and the effort required to send an item back. Those are different benefits.
- Extras: Value fuel discounts, rewards and streaming only if you would genuinely use them without the membership.
- Flexibility: Annual plans generally cost less per month; monthly plans let you stop when your shopping season ends.
- Eligibility: Student, government-assistance and cardholder discounts require verification and can have separate terms.
Use the comparison below as a starting point, then check the retailer’s checkout experience at your address. A listed benefit may be unavailable for a particular ZIP code, item, delivery slot or account.

The table intentionally marks unverified Amazon cells rather than assuming that a familiar benefit still has the same name, scope or price. Target’s terms page was last updated September 10, 2026, and all three memberships can change their terms.
How much do the memberships cost in 2026?
On the listed standard rates, Walmart+ costs $98 annually or $12.95 monthly, Target Circle 360 costs $99 annually or $10.99 monthly, and Amazon Prime is reported at $139 annually or $14.99 monthly. Taxes can apply, and monthly billing is not simply an annual plan divided into twelve equal payments.
Annual versus monthly billing
Walmart+’s annual fee is $98, compared with $155.40 if twelve months were billed at $12.95. Target Circle 360’s annual fee is $99, compared with $131.88 at $10.99 per month. The reported Amazon Prime rates equal $179.88 for twelve monthly payments versus $139 annually. These calculations are comparisons of listed prices, not guarantees that a retailer will keep those rates or that cancellation refunds will be available.
Discounted plans
Walmart lists $49 per year or $6.47 per month for eligible government-assistance recipients and college students. Target lists $4.99 per month for verified students and government-assistance recipients, while Target Circle Cardholders can obtain the annual plan for $49. Verification, renewal and stacking rules should be checked during enrollment; do not assume a discount applies merely because you think you fit a category.
Trials and promotional offers
Walmart currently advertises a $1 30-day trial on its membership page. Target offers a 14-day free trial. Promotional prices are volatile, may be limited to eligible accounts and can convert to the regular price unless canceled under the displayed terms.
What is the difference between parcel shipping and same-day store delivery?
Parcel shipping covers packages sent through a carrier or fulfillment network, while same-day store delivery brings selected products from a nearby store. Treat them as separate benefits when estimating value.
Parcel shipping
Walmart+ advertises free shipping with no order minimum, although product and address eligibility still matter. Target Circle 360 advertises free two-day shipping on eligible items. The available materials do not establish Amazon Prime’s current shipping promises, so confirm the delivery date and eligibility shown on the product page.

Store delivery
Walmart+ store delivery is free when the order reaches $35 and the address and items qualify. A scheduled $0-fee slot must be available; selecting a faster slot can add a speed fee. Target Circle 360 provides unlimited same-day delivery on orders of $35 or more. Target says delivery can include nearby retailers through Shipt, but select alcohol retailers and items are excluded from its no-markup claim, and local fees and taxes may still apply.
How to test delivery value at your address
- Enter your complete delivery address while signed in to each retailer.
- Add a typical basket that reflects your real orders, not an unusually large one designed to exceed a minimum.
- Record the standard delivery fee, service or speed fee, tax, order minimum and earliest available time.
- Repeat with a parcel item you commonly buy, checking whether the promised shipping speed is actually available.
- Save the results for several basket sizes. A plan that is attractive at $35 may be less useful for small, frequent orders.
Which membership offers the most useful return benefit?
Target Circle 360 provides an explicitly stated extra 30 days for no-rush returns. Walmart+ emphasizes returns-from-home features, which address convenience rather than extending the time allowed. Amazon’s current return window and pickup options need direct confirmation.
Return-window extension versus return convenience
An extended window helps when you need more time to decide, test or gift an item. A pickup or at-home process helps when the decision is already made but driving to a drop-off location is inconvenient. Count them separately in your value calculation; neither automatically substitutes for the other.
Questions to ask before buying an item
- Is the item sold by the retailer or by a marketplace seller?
- Does the return policy differ for electronics, furniture, cosmetics, groceries, alcohol or opened packaging?
- Does the membership benefit cover return shipping, or only provide a label or pickup option?
- Are no-rush returns required to receive Target’s additional 30 days?
- Will a refund be issued when the carrier scans the package, after inspection or only after receipt?
Read the item-level policy at checkout and keep the order confirmation. Membership terms do not override exclusions attached to a specific product or seller.

What rewards, fuel discounts and entertainment are worth?
Extras matter only to the extent that they replace spending you would otherwise make. A streaming choice has little cash value if you would not select or watch it; fuel savings matter more to a household that regularly fills up at participating stations.
Walmart+ extras
Walmart+ includes member fuel savings and a choice of streaming service. Calculate fuel value from your actual gallons and the posted member discount, then account for the stations you can realistically use. Do not assign the full retail price of a streaming service unless you would otherwise pay for that same service.
Retailer rewards
Target rewards should be valued from your normal Target spending and the current Circle terms, not from a theoretical maximum. Amazon’s reward and entertainment details should be checked directly because the available evidence does not establish the current bundle.

Walmart’s advertised savings estimate
Fact box: $382 average annual savings — Walmart, 2026 (retailer estimate for annual members with at least 12 months of membership; excludes the annual membership fee). Walmart says the estimate is based on comparison with non-member prices or fees. It is a company calculation for a defined group, not independently verified savings or a promise that every member will save $382.

How do you calculate whether a membership pays for itself?
Use your own avoided fees first, then add realistic values for extras. A simple annual calculation is:
Net value = avoided eligible delivery and shipping fees + realistic value of rewards, fuel and services you would otherwise buy − membership fee.
Step 1: Gather a year of orders
Review receipts, email confirmations or account history for the last twelve months. Count the orders you would have placed with each retailer even without a membership. Include delivery charges, minimum-order workarounds and paid upgrades you actually selected.
Step 2: Separate eligible and ineligible orders
Remove orders outside the plan’s geography, orders below a local-delivery minimum and products excluded from same-day or free-shipping benefits. For Walmart+, store delivery requires a $35 order minimum and a qualifying free slot; Target Circle 360 also uses a $35 minimum for same-day delivery.
Step 3: Add only substitutable extras
If you already pay for a streaming service that the plan includes, its current standalone cost may be a reasonable value, provided the bundle is still included and you would keep that service. If you would not buy it, assign zero. Use the same conservative approach for fuel discounts and rewards.
Step 4: Compare annual and monthly break-even points
Divide the annual fee by the average fee avoided per eligible order. For example, a $98 annual fee requires about $8.17 of value per month to break even; the $99 Target fee requires $8.25 per month. Those are planning benchmarks, not evidence that every month will be equal.
Rank #4
- Gift Card is redeemable towards millions of items storewide at Amazon.com
- Gift Card has no fees and no expiration date
- Gift Card is nested inside a specialty gift box
- Free One-Day Shipping (where available)
- Scan and redeem any Gift Card with a mobile or tablet device via the Amazon App
Step 5: Stress-test the result
Recalculate with fewer orders, no entertainment value and only half of the estimated fuel or rewards value. If the membership still pays for itself, the decision is more robust. If it only works under optimistic assumptions, choose monthly billing or skip the plan.
Which membership is the best fit for different shoppers?
There is no universal winner. Match the plan to the retailer, delivery pattern and benefit you will actually use.
Choose Walmart+ when you frequently use Walmart
Walmart+ is the logical candidate for shoppers who want free parcel shipping without an order minimum, regularly reach the $35 store-delivery threshold, or can use member fuel savings. Its U.S. billing-address requirement and more limited benefits in Alaska and Hawaii make location verification essential. The streaming choice can improve the value, but only if it replaces a service you would otherwise pay for.
Choose Target Circle 360 when same-day Target delivery or more return time matters
Target Circle 360 stands out for unlimited same-day delivery on qualifying $35 orders and the explicitly stated extra 30 days for no-rush returns. It can also serve nearby retailers through Shipt, subject to exclusions, local fees and taxes. The $49 annual rate for Target Circle Cardholders and $4.99 monthly rate for verified students and government-assistance recipients can materially change the break-even calculation.
Consider Amazon Prime only after confirming current terms
The reported $139 annual and $14.99 monthly prices make Prime the highest-priced standard option in this comparison. Its actual value depends on the current delivery, return, reward and entertainment benefits available to your account and address. Because the official Amazon membership page was not available for verification here, check those details directly before comparing Prime on equal terms.
Skip a membership when your behavior does not support it
If you place only a few orders, rarely use same-day delivery, return few items and would not pay for bundled services, paying per delivery can be cheaper. A free trial can help you observe real checkout fees, but set a cancellation reminder before the trial converts to the standard rate.
What availability and policy limits can change the answer?
Membership labels do not guarantee identical access across the country. Delivery radius, inventory, order type, seller, time slot, taxes and local regulations can change the benefit shown at checkout.
Best Value
- Gift Card is redeemable towards millions of items storewide at Amazon.com
- Gift Card has no fees and no expiration date
- Gift Card is affixed inside a mini envelope
- Free One-Day Shipping (where available)
- Scan and redeem any Gift Card with a mobile or tablet device via the Amazon App
- Address: Walmart+ requires a U.S. billing address, and benefits are limited in Alaska and Hawaii.
- Inventory: A qualifying membership does not make every item eligible for two-day, same-day or free delivery.
- Minimums: Both Walmart+ store delivery and Target Circle 360 same-day delivery use a $35 order threshold in the stated terms.
- Slots: Walmart’s free scheduled delivery depends on an available $0-fee slot; faster options can cost more.
- Retailer exclusions: Target’s Shipt-powered delivery excludes select alcohol retailers and items from its no-markup claim.
- Taxes and local fees: Target notes that local fees and taxes may apply, even where the membership benefit is advertised as unlimited.
- Changing terms: Target’s terms page was last updated September 10, 2026. Promotional offers and benefit definitions can change after enrollment.
How should you verify a plan before paying?
Verification takes a few minutes and prevents a low headline price from becoming an expensive mismatch.
- Open the current membership page while logged into the account you will use.
- Confirm the annual and monthly prices, taxes, renewal date and cancellation language.
- Enter your delivery address and test one parcel order and one typical local-delivery basket.
- Check the displayed minimum, delivery slot fee, speed fee, taxes and earliest arrival time.
- Open the return policy for a product category you buy often, including marketplace-seller terms where relevant.
- Verify discount eligibility with the required student, government-assistance or cardholder account.
- Read the description of each streaming, fuel or rewards benefit and record its actual redemption limits.
- Save a copy of the terms or confirmation email so you can compare changes at renewal.
What are the most common comparison mistakes?
Most poor membership decisions come from counting benefits that are unavailable, unused or already included elsewhere.
- Comparing sticker prices only: A $1 trial or discounted rate may not be the renewal price.
- Treating shipping as same-day delivery: A free parcel shipment does not remove local-delivery minimums or slot fees.
- Counting every perk at retail value: Unused streaming, fuel or reward benefits are worth zero to your household.
- Confusing more return time with easier returns: Target’s extra 30 days and Walmart’s returns-from-home emphasis solve different problems.
- Assuming nationwide access: Address, inventory, Alaska and Hawaii limitations, Shipt coverage and local taxes can alter the result.
- Using a retailer’s savings estimate as a guarantee: Walmart’s $382 figure is a defined company estimate, not an individual promise.
- Ignoring opportunity cost: Annual prepayment can be less flexible if your shopping habits or address are likely to change.
- Failing to verify Amazon’s current terms: The reported Prime price is secondary-source information and should not be treated as a complete benefit specification.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which shopping membership is worth it for a small household?
Usually the plan connected to the retailer you already use most, because a small number of eligible orders may not offset any annual fee. Track actual delivery charges for a month before committing, and consider monthly billing if your order pattern is seasonal.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can I use a trial to test same-day delivery before paying annually?
Yes, when your account is offered a trial, place a normal-size order during the trial and inspect the final fee, slot and tax rather than relying on the advertised headline. Set a reminder before the trial ends because promotional pricing can convert to the regular recurring charge.
Are membership delivery fees refundable if an order arrives late?
The materials do not establish a universal refund rule for any of the three memberships. Check the order-specific delivery promise and the retailer’s current service-policy language; a membership generally does not guarantee compensation for every delay.
Do membership benefits apply to marketplace sellers?
Eligibility can differ by seller and item, especially for shipping and returns. Before ordering, look for the membership badge or delivery promise on the specific product page and read the seller’s return conditions.
Should I value fuel savings when comparing a delivery membership?
Only if you regularly buy fuel at participating locations and would otherwise pay the undiscounted price. Estimate gallons purchased and the actual per-gallon discount, then reduce the value for trips or stations you would not realistically use.
