Game updates often need temporary working space in addition to the size of the update shown in the store. The installer may need room to download, unpack, verify, and replace files. That is why a phone can show an update that appears smaller than the amount of free space the game requests.

Devsisters’ support guidance recommends at least 3GB of available storage for a CookieRun title. Treat that as a practical floor rather than a promise that every device will install an update with exactly 3GB free. Keeping more room gives the operating system space for temporary files and reduces the chance that another app or camera download consumes the remaining capacity during the update.
CookieRun: Kingdom can also defer some large content. Partial download allows cutscenes and voice files to arrive when required. This reduces the amount that must be downloaded at one time, but it does not make the content permanently free: the files can still occupy storage after they are downloaded.
How do I check and reclaim storage safely?
Start with the operating system’s storage screen, not the game’s data controls. The exact labels differ by phone manufacturer and software version, but the process is similar.

- Open Settings and search for Storage (on many phones this is Settings > Storage or Battery and device care > Storage).
- Review the largest categories. Videos, downloads, messaging attachments, offline media, and unused apps are usually easier to remove than personal photos or active applications.
- Uninstall apps you no longer use and delete large files you have another copy of. Check the Files app’s Trash or Recently deleted area and empty it.

Android’s app settings may offer Clear cache and Clear storage (or Clear data). Clear cache removes temporary files; clear storage/data can reset the app and remove locally stored information. Do not use the latter as a routine cleanup step unless your account is linked and you understand the recovery implications.
iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage (or iPad Storage).
- Wait for the list to calculate, then inspect large apps, downloaded media, and photo or video categories.
- Delete unused apps or use the system’s offload option when you want to remove the app while retaining its documents where supported. Delete large videos and attachments you no longer need.
- Open Photos’ Recently Deleted album and permanently remove items if you are certain they are backed up or no longer needed.
- Check the storage screen again and leave roughly 3GB free.
Deleting and reinstalling a game is different from offloading it: a reinstall can remove local game data. Verify that your Kingdom account is linked before taking that step.
How much storage should I leave before a Kingdom update?

What is partial download, and should I enable it?
Partial download is the game’s way to postpone some large cutscene and voice downloads until they are needed. Keep it enabled if your phone has limited space or you want to avoid a large initial download. You may see a new file download when you reach content that was deferred; that is expected behavior.
Voice-over language changes can download additional voice files. Repeatedly switching languages can therefore increase the game’s storage footprint. Choose the language you actually use and avoid changing it merely to troubleshoot a brief audio issue. If you do change it, allow the download to finish and recheck the device’s storage afterward.
Partial download reduces the amount downloaded at one time, but it cannot compensate for a phone that is already nearly full. Keep the operating-system free-space target first, then use partial download to control when optional game assets arrive.

Lower Resolution

If you have a higher-memory device but still see stutter, enabling it can be a reasonable trade-off: some building animations become static, while the game uses less memory for those scenes.
Reduce Cookie Activity and Cookie Animation
The August 26, 2026 notice added Cookie Activity and Cookie Animation controls to reduce performance load. Lower or disable these effects if the options are present on your device. The visual result is less activity in the Kingdom, but reducing background movement can help a device that struggles when many objects are active.

Change one group of settings at a time, then return to the same demanding area of the game. This makes it easier to identify which compromise gives you acceptable smoothness without unnecessarily reducing image quality.
Why does CookieRun: Kingdom reload instead of merely lagging?
A reload usually points to available-memory pressure rather than a lack of storage. Storage is where files remain when the game is closed; memory (RAM) is the working space used while the game and other apps are running. A phone can have several gigabytes of free storage and still reload a game when RAM is scarce.
Devsisters’ August 26, 2026 notice states: “On low-end iOS devices, the Kingdom will reload during gameplay when available memory runs low to free up memory.” In that situation, deleting more photos may not solve the reload. What device and software requirements matter?
Devsisters’ update guidance lists iOS 15 or later, Android 8.0 or later, and 3GB of RAM or higher. These are guidance thresholds, not a guarantee of identical performance. Manufacturers use different processors, graphics hardware, thermal designs, and background services, so two phones with the same RAM amount can behave differently.

How should I update, restart, and cool the phone?
- Connect to a reliable network and open the official store’s update page. Install the CookieRun: Kingdom update only after confirming adequate free storage.
