For routine fingerprints, switch off your iPhone Duo, unplug any cables, and gently wipe the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Keep moisture away from openings. Apple has not specified a cleaning routine for the Duo’s foldable inner display in the product information cited here, so don’t apply a cleaner, disinfectant, or protective film to that surface unless Apple’s current Duo instructions say it is safe.
How to clean routine smudges
- Disconnect and power down. Unplug cables and turn off the iPhone before cleaning.
- Use a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. Apple’s general iPhone guidance calls for a slightly damp cloth. Use very little moisture; do not let liquid run toward seams or openings.
- Wipe gently. Avoid forceful rubbing or repeated scrubbing. Apple cautions against excessive wiping in its general product-cleaning guidance.
A basic microfiber cloth can be a practical choice if it is soft and lint-free. Apple’s guidance supports the cloth type for ordinary iPhone cleaning, but does not specifically validate any cloth for the Duo’s inner display.
What to keep away from the screen
Abrasive materials can scratch glass and wear down its fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating, according to Apple’s iPhone cleaning instructions. For routine cleaning, do not use cleaning products unless following Apple’s separate disinfection directions.
- Avoid paper towels, abrasive cloths, solvents, ammonia, window or household cleaners, aerosol sprays, and compressed air.
- Do not use bleach or hydrogen peroxide products.
- Do not scrub the inner display or try to polish away a mark.
Disinfection is different from routine cleaning
Apple’s general cleaning guidance permits specified 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes, 75% ethyl alcohol wipes, or disinfectant wipes on exterior surfaces, subject to restrictions. It says to avoid openings and follow with a slightly damp lint-free cloth. These are conditional instructions for disinfection, not routine smudge removal.

Do not assume that this allowance applies to the Duo’s foldable inner display. Apple’s announcement describes that display’s construction but does not give an inner-screen disinfecting method. Check the current Duo user guide or Apple Support before using any wipe or liquid on it. Apple also advises against bleach and hydrogen peroxide products in its product-cleaning guidance.
Why the Duo’s inner screen needs model-specific instructions
Apple describes the iPhone Duo, announced September 9, 2026, as having a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display with a special nano-texture finish to minimize glare. The announcement says high-strength glass sits above and below the folding display panel, with custom adhesives. Those details do not establish a cleaning liquid, pressure limit, hinge-side cleaning technique, or film-replacement rule.

Apple’s announcement lists preorders beginning October 16, 2026, and availability beginning October 23, 2026. These are release dates, not care guidance. Because the display has a distinct foldable construction, do not treat instructions for ordinary glass—or advice for other foldable phones—as approval for the Duo’s inner surface.

When to stop cleaning and get help
- A stain will not lift with a gentle cloth: stop rather than escalating to a solvent, spray, or abrasive. Consult the Duo guide or Apple Support.
- The screen or its surface appears damaged: avoid further wiping and contact Apple Support or an authorized service provider.
- Liquid may have entered the phone: Apple’s general guidance is to seek help from an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store as soon as possible.
