Apple’s current nano-texture cleaning instructions do not list iPhone. For an iPhone screen—including textured matte glass or Ceramic Shield—Apple recommends a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. The special polishing-cloth and isopropyl-alcohol instructions for Apple’s nano-texture displays do not apply to iPhone.
How do I clean my iPhone screen without scratching it?
- Unplug any cables and turn off your iPhone.
- Remove dust, then gently wipe the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Apple gives a lens cloth or other microfibre cloth as examples.
- Keep moisture out of openings, and avoid excessive wiping or forceful scrubbing.
Apple warns that cleaning products and abrasive materials can diminish the iPhone’s fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating; abrasives may also scratch the phone. Avoid paper towels, abrasive cloths, household glass cleaner, and spraying liquid directly onto the phone. See Apple’s iPhone cleaning instructions and general guidance for cleaning Apple products.
Can I use alcohol on an iPhone screen?
Not as a routine screen-cleaning solution. Apple’s 70-percent isopropyl alcohol solution allowance for infrequent stubborn marks belongs to its instructions for specified nano-texture displays—not iPhone.
Disinfecting is a separate use. Apple says the iPhone’s exterior may be gently wiped with a 70-percent isopropyl alcohol wipe, a 75-percent ethyl alcohol wipe, or a disinfectant wipe, subject to its cautions. After disinfecting, wipe with a soft, slightly damp, water-dampened lint-free cloth. Follow Apple’s current iPhone instructions; do not treat this exception as a recommendation to apply alcohol solution during ordinary cleaning.

What cloth should I use to clean an iPhone screen?
Use a soft, lint-free cloth, such as a lens cloth or microfibre cloth. A suitable cloth is enough for routine cleaning; Apple’s nano-texture polishing cloth is not specified for iPhone.
Why the nano-texture instructions are different
Apple’s nano-texture display instructions name Studio Display, Pro Display XDR, iMac, MacBook Pro, and iPad Pro (M4)—not iPhone. For those listed devices, Apple directs users to the supplied polishing cloth for dust or smudges. For infrequent hard-to-remove marks, it permits moistening that cloth with 70-percent isopropyl alcohol solution. These are product-specific directions and should not be transferred to an iPhone just because its glass is described as matte or textured.

For the listed nano-texture products, Apple says a replacement polishing cloth can be ordered if the original is lost. It also says to hand-wash the cloth with dish soap and water, rinse it thoroughly, and air-dry it for at least 24 hours.
