Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesChoose an intact beer bottle with a closure that seals reliably, and use it only for carbonation and storage conditions its manufacturer rates it to handle. Clean and sanitize bottles before filling, make sure fermentation is complete, and calculate priming additions carefully. Do not assume a bottle is pressure-safe because it looks heavy, resembles a commercial beer bottle, or will be kept cold.
Start with the bottle and closure
For ordinary homebrew bottling, intact beer bottles designed for crown caps are a practical starting point. The American Homebrewers Association (AHA) says beer bottles can be purchased or reused if they are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. It cautions that twist-off bottles are difficult to seal airtight, so choose bottles with a closure that fits and seals reliably.
Use new crown caps and check that their size matches the bottle. Some larger bottles need larger caps. A bottle capper and spring-tip bottle filler wand are useful parts of a bottling setup; a bottle brush can help remove sediment but does not replace sanitizing. See the AHA’s Homebrew Equipment guide for its equipment guidance.
Inspect, clean, and sanitize before reuse
- Inspect each bottle. Look for chips, cracks, scratches, or other visible damage. Set aside and discard doubtful bottles rather than risking them in a pressurized batch.
- Remove residue. Clean bottles thoroughly; a bottle brush can help dislodge sediment. Cleaning removes soil, while sanitizing is a separate necessary step before filling.
- Sanitize and prepare the closure. Sanitize bottles before use and fit a new crown cap of the correct size with a capper. Do not rely on an old cap or a closure that does not fit securely.
- Confirm fermentation is complete. Do not bottle beer that is still fermenting. Calculate priming additions appropriately; incomplete fermentation or excess fermentable sugar can contribute to over-pressurization.
Match pressure limits to carbonation and storage
A bottle’s size, weight, color, or appearance does not establish its pressure rating. The Brewers Association says package pressure specifications vary by manufacturer and can depend on glass thickness, fill volume, carbon dioxide level, and temperature. Consult the bottle maker for the intended use and pressure limit, and compare that limit with the pressure expected from your beer. Its Preventing Package Over-Pressurization guidance advises accounting for the highest reasonable temperature a package might encounter—not just its temperature in a refrigerator.

Warm beer can produce higher package pressure. A hot car or garage may expose bottles to temperatures well above normal refrigerator storage. Consider where the filled bottles could realistically end up, and do not use a container if its rating is unknown or inadequate for those conditions.
The Brewers Association’s 2022 Draught Beer Quality Manual for Retailers gives this conditional growler example: a sealed vessel filled to 95% capacity with beer at 2.7 volumes CO₂ and 5% ABV. The figures illustrate how pressure changes with temperature; they are not general bottle ratings or safe targets for arbitrary containers.

| Beer temperature in the example | Example pressure |
|---|---|
| 38°F | 13.1 psig |
| 68°F | 32.4 psig |
| 100°F | 57.5 psig |
| 120°F | 74.2 psig |
These pressures apply only to the manual’s stated growler example and conditions. They do not tell you what an individual bottle can withstand.
Treat growlers as a separate format
Do not assume a growler is suitable for bottle conditioning. Use only a growler specifically designed for packaged carbonated beer, and confirm with its supplier that its pressure rating meets or exceeds the pressure expected from your beer. Follow the manufacturer’s fill line or leave 5% headspace; keep filled growlers cold, and do not let them warm or freeze.

- AMBER GLASS FOR LIGHT-SENSITIVE CONTENTS: The 16 oz capacity provides a practical single-bottle size, while the amber tint helps reduce light exposure during storage.
- SECURE SWING-TOP CLOSURE: Each bottle uses a 304 stainless steel wire closure and silicone gasket to create an airtight, leak-resistant seal for liquids.
- VERSATILE 16 OZ SIZE: Use for beer, kombucha, mead, kefir, cider, homemade soda, vanilla extract, juice, syrup, oil, or vinegar. Follow recipe-specific pressure guidance.
- REUSABLE AND EASY TO CLEAN: The stopper assembly can be removed for thorough cleaning and reattached for repeated use. Wash before first use and dry completely before storage.
- 6-BOTTLE SET WITH SPARE SEALS: Includes six 16 oz amber bottles with preattached flip caps and replacement silicone gaskets. Inspect glass before every use; do not use chipped or cracked bottles.
Never fill a glass or ceramic growler that is cracked, chipped, engraved, or made of old, pitted, or unsmooth glass. Such damage or surface features can reduce pressure strength. The Brewers Association’s Best Practices for Handling and Filling Beer Growlers also recommends cleaning growlers immediately after emptying and letting them drip dry upside down and uncapped when they will be refilled.

Brown glass and opaque vessels protect beer from light better than clear glass. If the beer will be stored where light reaches it, prefer a darker or opaque container rather than relying on clear glass. Light protection is separate from pressure safety: a darker bottle still needs an appropriate manufacturer pressure rating.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- PRY-OFF LONG NECK STANDARD DESIGN: Amber Long Neck Glass Beer Bottles are the standard industry bottle commonly associated with a pry-off crown finish, long neck and narrow body. The beer bottle is designed to hold up to and including 3.0 volumes max.
- KEEPS BEER FRESH LONGER: The FastRack amber colored refillable beer bottles helps to keep your homebrew beer tasting fresh longer by providing protection from UV rays spoiling your beer.
- KEEPS BEER FRESH: The amber colored glass provides protection to light sensitive products such as hydrogen peroxide and sulfuric acid chemicals, oils, skin care, and pharmaceutical drugs, along with beer by blocking out UV rays for a fresh taste.
- PROUDLY MADE IN THE USA: FastRack bottles for beer manufactured in the United States tend to have a stronger, thicker glass than imported glass bottles. Unlike some brown beer bottles from China, United States.
- SATISFACTION GUARANTEE: At FastRack we pride ourselves on creating products that can be trusted by our customers. Buyer satisfaction is our top priority, maybe, sometimes accidents happen during shipping.

Use this selection checklist
- Choose a bottle intended for a closure that can seal reliably; avoid twist-off bottles for the AHA’s airtight-seal concern.
- Reject bottles with visible damage and clean and sanitize every bottle before filling.
- Use new, correctly sized crown caps where applicable.
- Verify the manufacturer’s pressure rating for the intended carbonation, fill, and likely storage temperature.
- Ensure fermentation is complete and calculate priming additions appropriately.
- For growlers, verify carbonated-beer use and pressure rating with the supplier, follow the fill guidance, and keep the filled vessel cold.
- Prefer brown glass or an opaque vessel when better light protection is needed.
