Identify your exact Nokia phone model
Check the name and model identifier on the phone’s packaging or in its user guide. If the packaging is unavailable, HMD says to look in Settings > About phone. Use the exact model when searching for parts; a listing that says only “for Nokia phones” does not establish compatibility. HMD’s support page links to device-specific guides and support options.
For example, HMD’s product information sheet specifies a 1450 mAh battery for the Nokia 230 (2024), model TA-1609. That figure applies to that model; it is not a general Nokia battery specification.
Match the replacement to the model and part code
Open the guide or repair listing for your exact phone and check whether it identifies a replacement battery and any required tools. If the original battery has a printed part code, compare it with the replacement listing as an additional check. Choose a listing that explicitly names your phone’s exact model. Similar capacity, appearance, or brand wording alone does not confirm a fit.

HMD’s self-repair information emphasizes checking support for the specific device. Its Nokia 230 (2024) sheet describes that model’s battery as repairable by the end user, but this does not establish that batteries—or repair methods—are shared across Nokia models.
- Confirm the phone’s full model name and identifier.
- Check the phone’s own user guide or repair documentation for the battery and repair method.
- Compare the replacement’s stated compatibility with the exact model and, where available, the original battery’s part code.
- Prefer a listing that clearly states the part’s source, condition, compatibility, and return terms. The available official sources do not rank third-party sellers or establish that a generic “high capacity” battery is preferable.
Choose between official repair and self-repair
HMD names the Nokia G22 and Nokia G42 5G as phones designed for home repair using official parts and guides. The Nokia 230 (2024) product sheet separately says its battery can be repaired by the end user with a basic tool. These examples are model-specific: check your own phone’s instructions rather than assuming it is intended for the same procedure.

HMD identifies iFixit and GSMnet as official repair partners and advises customers to verify support for their particular model. Its current page lists iFixit for Australia, Great Britain, the United States, and EU countries; the EU store also ships to Norway and Switzerland. HMD lists GSMnet in Europe, Great Britain, and Australia, with selected markets specified on its page. Availability can change, so check the current listing for your country and model.
HMD states that repairs on self-repairable Nokia or HMD smartphones using genuine parts, tools, and guides from its named partners are considered authorized repairs and do not affect the Manufacturer’s Limited Warranty. It cautions that non-official parts or tools may void warranty. This statement applies to the described self-repairable devices and HMD warranty, not automatically to every Nokia phone or every warranty. Check the current terms for your device and location before opening it. HMD says warranty coverage can be checked through the My Device app or its IMEI warranty checker; its support page also provides care-center options.

Follow the battery safety instructions for your model
Use the complete repair guide for the exact device, or have a repair professional handle the replacement. Lithium-ion batteries can be hazardous if damaged. HMD’s Fusion battery guide warns that damage can cause a fire and says not to bend, crease, or puncture the battery.
The Fusion guide instructs users to power down and unplug the phone and, for that specific repair, discharge the battery below 25% before starting. These are Fusion-specific instructions, not universal directions for Nokia phones. Follow your model’s own guide; if the battery is swollen or damaged, avoid improvising a repair and seek appropriate professional help.

Dispose of the old battery through a collection program
Do not put a used battery into ordinary waste unless local rules explicitly allow it. HMD’s dismantling manual for the HMD Pulse and Pulse Pro says used products and batteries should go to dedicated collection points and notes that lithium-ion batteries require special handling and recycling. Check your local waste authority’s guidance and the relevant take-back program in your country.
