As of October 25, 2026, there is no published Xbox screen or menu path for checking remaining cloud-gaming hours, and Microsoft has not announced the reset day, time zone, or reset rule. Microsoft says new monthly allowances are scheduled to begin in November 2026: 5 hours for Game Pass Essential, 10 hours for Game Pass Premium, and 15 hours for Game Pass Ultimate.
After the November rollout, look for an official remaining-time indicator in the Xbox or Microsoft account experience while signed in to the account that owns the Game Pass entitlement. Do not assume the allowance resets on the first day of the calendar month or on your subscription billing date. If no counter appears, use Xbox Support rather than a third-party calculator.
What is changing in Xbox Cloud Gaming, and when?
Microsoft is moving eligible Game Pass subscribers to monthly cloud-gaming allowances beginning in November 2026. Before this change, eligible subscribers could stream without a monthly hour cap. Microsoft says the new policy is expected to affect approximately 4% of Game Pass subscribers, so not every member will necessarily encounter the same limits or account messaging.

Microsoft explains the decision this way: “We’re introducing this model because the cost of providing cloud gaming grows as more people use it and play for longer.” It also says that monthly limits allow the service to continue while Microsoft invests in reliability and performance.
How do I check my remaining Xbox Cloud Gaming hours?
Once the November rollout reaches your account, check the official Xbox or Microsoft account experience for a remaining-time indicator. Microsoft has not supplied a verified screen name or click-by-click route, so any instructions that name a particular menu before the company publishes it are guesses.
- Wait for the policy to reach your account. If you are checking before the November 2026 rollout, the absence of a counter is expected. Existing subscribers previously had no monthly hour display because this allowance did not apply.
- Sign in with the entitlement-holding Microsoft account. Cloud time belongs to the account with the Game Pass subscription. A console, phone, browser, or other device does not create a separate allowance.
- Open the official Xbox or Microsoft account experience. Look for a remaining-time, cloud-gaming allowance, or similar notice presented by Xbox. The exact label and location have not been published.
- Check the plan and market shown on the account. Record whether the account is identified as Essential, Premium, or Ultimate and note the country or market. Microsoft says subscription options and cloud features can vary by market.
- Record the displayed balance and the time you checked it. A dated screenshot can help you compare later changes and gives Xbox Support concrete information if the counter appears inconsistent.
- Contact Xbox Support if no official counter is visible after rollout. Ask support to confirm the entitlement, allowance policy, and applicable period. Do not substitute a third-party calculator or an assumed billing-date formula.
What this procedure does not establish
These steps explain how to look for an official indicator after rollout; they do not establish that a particular page already exists. Microsoft has said it will provide more information in November about how players can check their remaining time. Until that information is published, the absence of a named menu path is a documentation gap, not evidence that your account has no allowance.

Where will the cloud-hours counter appear?
Microsoft has not identified whether the balance will be shown on the Xbox website, a console interface, a mobile application, a Game Pass account page, or more than one of those places. It has also not said whether the display will show hours and minutes, a rounded number, a progress bar, or a warning at a particular threshold.
Use only an indicator attached to the signed-in Microsoft account and presented through an official Xbox experience. A device-level timer cannot be treated as the account balance because the allowance is associated with the subscription entitlement, not with each device. If different devices show different information, capture both views and ask support which display is authoritative.

When do Xbox Cloud Gaming hours reset?
The reset date is unpublished. Microsoft describes the allowance as monthly but has not said what “monthly” means for an individual account. Do not assume a calendar-month reset, a subscription billing-cycle reset, or a fixed day shared by every subscriber.
The following details remain unspecified:
- The exact reset day.
- The reset time and time zone.
- Whether the period follows the calendar month, billing date, or another account date.
- Whether unused hours roll over.
- How a partial month is handled when a subscription starts or ends.
- What happens after an upgrade or downgrade.
- Whether a cancellation followed by reactivation creates a new period.
Because none of these rules has been published, a depleted balance should not be expected to return at midnight on the first day of a month or immediately after a billing charge. Treat any date shown in an unofficial guide as unverified until Xbox posts final account or support documentation.

After the counter appears, note the displayed balance, the account plan, the market, and the exact UTC time of the observation. Check again near the next suspected period boundary, but label the date as an observation rather than a confirmed policy. If the balance changes unexpectedly, retain the screenshots and provide them to Xbox Support; one observed change does not prove that the same reset rule applies to all accounts.
What happens when the included hours run out?
Microsoft says subscribers will be able to purchase additional cloud playtime through the Xbox Store after using their included allowance. The announcement does not provide the price, the size of an additional bundle, its expiry period, or the games and markets that will qualify.
Microsoft has also announced a route for people without Game Pass to purchase cloud playtime for eligible games they own on supported devices. That statement does not establish whether purchased time uses the same counter as Game Pass time, whether the two types of time can be combined, or whether every owned game qualifies.

Do not plan a purchase until the Xbox Store listing for your market identifies the cost, amount of time, expiration rule, eligible games, and supported devices. Those details were deferred for later information. A purchase option may also be unavailable in some markets because Microsoft says cloud features and buying options vary by region.

The most likely explanation depends on when and where you are checking. Use the symptom and response in this table before changing plans or buying extra time.

Can upgrading Game Pass restore used cloud hours?
Microsoft has not published a rule saying that an upgrade immediately replenishes a depleted monthly allowance. Do not upgrade solely to restore hours unless the account page or Xbox Support explicitly confirms how the change is handled for your account.
The same caution applies to downgrades, cancellations, reactivations, and mid-period plan changes. The announced figures describe the tiers, but they do not define proration, carryover, or whether a plan change starts a new period. Compare the catalog and other features you need separately from the question of recovering already-used cloud time.
How should I compare the three Game Pass tiers?
Cloud hours are only one decision factor. Microsoft has not published subscription prices in the announcement, and catalog access, features, purchasing options, and cloud availability can vary by market.

Choose a tier only after checking the current offer in your market and deciding how much cloud play you realistically need. The table’s hour figures are the announced monthly allowances; it does not imply that moving to a higher tier resets a used balance.

A short record of your account state will make later troubleshooting easier, especially if Microsoft introduces the counter in stages.
- Write down the Microsoft account that pays for or receives the Game Pass entitlement.
- Record your current Game Pass tier and market.
- Note whether you are checking from a console, browser, or mobile device, without treating any device as a separate balance.
- After the feature appears, capture the displayed allowance, remaining time, and any stated reset date.
- Keep the date and time of each screenshot, preferably with the time zone.
- Save any Xbox notification that explains a limit, warning, purchase option, or period change.
- Do not buy additional time until the Store listing states its price, duration, expiration, eligibility, and market availability.
How will you know that the reset policy is official?
Look for an Xbox account page, Xbox Support article, or Xbox announcement that explicitly states the reset day or period definition. A reliable document should identify the applicable plan, market or regional exceptions, time zone if relevant, rollover treatment, and what happens after upgrades or cancellations.
A countdown shown in your account is useful evidence for your own subscription, but it should not be generalized to another account unless Microsoft says the rule is universal. If the account display conflicts with published support information, use the account identifier, plan, market, and timestamp when contacting Xbox Support.
What did Microsoft say about the reason for the limits?
Team Xbox says the cost of providing cloud gaming increases as usage grows and players spend longer in sessions. The company says monthly limits let it keep offering the service while continuing to invest in reliability and performance.

Those statements explain the policy rationale, not its accounting details. They do not specify how a session is timed, whether idle or paused gameplay counts, or how a reset is calculated.

Do paused games or menu time count against my Xbox cloud hours?
Microsoft has not published the session-timing rule. It is not yet clear whether time in menus, queues, pauses, disconnect grace periods, or other non-game states is charged, so do not estimate usage from session length alone.
Can family members share one monthly cloud-hours allowance?
