To check whether your PC can run a 3D metroidvania on Steam, open the exact game’s Steam Store page and find System Requirements. Compare its minimum and recommended requirements with your PC’s operating system and architecture, CPU, GPU and VRAM, installed RAM, and free storage. A match to minimum requirements suggests a lower target for launching or basic play—not a guaranteed frame rate.
Where do I check a Steam game’s requirements?
The game’s own Steam Store listing is the primary place to check. Steam Support says you can find a game’s system requirements and compatible operating systems by scrolling to the listing’s System Requirements section; it advises checking hardware requirements as well as operating-system compatibility.
Make sure the page is for the exact game and edition you intend to install. Then read both the Minimum and Recommended entries, including footnotes or other notes. Requirements are game-specific: the general requirements for running Steam itself do not tell you whether a particular 3D metroidvania will run well.
What to copy from the listing
- Operating-system name, version, and whether it must be 64-bit.
- CPU model or stated processor requirement.
- GPU model, graphics API, and stated VRAM requirement, if listed.
- Installed memory (RAM).
- Storage space and any other listed notes.
Do not skip a field because another component looks powerful. A capable graphics card does not make up for an unsupported operating system, and abundant RAM does not establish that the GPU meets the game’s requirement.

How do I compare my PC with the game’s requirements?
Identify your computer’s actual component models, then compare each category separately against both levels on the Steam page. Steam’s Help → System Information view is one way to see hardware information; your operating system also has system-information tools.
- Open the exact Store listing. Confirm the game and edition, then copy the minimum and recommended requirements, including OS, CPU, memory, graphics, storage, and notes.
- Find your PC’s specifications. In Steam, open Help → System Information, or use the system-information tools provided by your operating system. Record the exact CPU and GPU model names, RAM, OS version and architecture, and available free storage.
- Match like with like. Compare your OS to the supported OS, CPU to CPU, GPU and VRAM to graphics requirements, RAM to memory, and free space to storage. Check for a stated graphics API requirement as well.
- Assess minimum and recommended separately. Mark each category as meeting, falling short of, or unclear against each target. Do not treat one strong component as proof that the rest of the system qualifies.
- Choose a cautious next step if the result is close. A borderline system may need reduced settings, a demo if one is available, or a refund-aware trial. An automated estimate can provide another clue, but it cannot guarantee how the game will perform on your PC.
Why exact model names matter
Broad labels such as “Intel graphics” are not specific enough for a useful comparison. A label may describe a family rather than the exact graphics hardware in the computer. Use the complete model name shown by system information and compare it with the model or class named by the game listing. If one side is too vague to compare confidently, record that category as uncertain rather than assuming it passes.
The same principle applies to processors and memory. A PC can meet the RAM figure while missing the CPU requirement, or meet the CPU target while its graphics hardware is below the listed level. Keep a component-by-component checklist instead of reducing the whole computer to a single label such as “gaming PC.”
What do Minimum and Recommended requirements mean?
Minimum is the lower target for launching or basic play; Recommended is the more useful target when judging whether the game is likely to be comfortable at its intended settings. Neither label, by itself, promises a particular frame rate.

Use minimum as a caution threshold, not as a performance guarantee. If every listed component meets minimum but one or more miss recommended, the game may still be playable, but you should expect to evaluate settings rather than assume a smooth result. If a key component is below minimum, the listing does not support a confident expectation that the game will run acceptably.
Even a system that meets recommended requirements can produce a different result from another PC with similar headline specifications. Drivers, game patches, resolution, graphics quality, and upscaling can change performance. The requirement table is a comparison baseline, not a benchmark for your exact configuration.
How should I decide whether my PC is likely to run it?
After comparing each part, classify the result as likely to run, borderline, or below minimum. These are practical judgments from the published requirements, not guarantees about frame rate or stability.

When you identify a shortfall, name the component rather than treating the whole PC as incompatible. For example, a GPU shortfall calls for checking graphics options or a GPU upgrade; a storage shortfall is a different problem. Upgrade only after confirming which requirement is missed and that the proposed change addresses it.

Should I use an automated Steam compatibility checker?
An automated checker can add an estimated performance perspective after you have read the Steam listing. DoesItRun accepts hardware entered by hand or pasted from Steam system information, compares it with a game’s Steam requirements, estimates FPS, and identifies a component that may limit performance. Use an automated result as a second opinion, especially when your PC is near a requirement. It does not replace checking the exact Store listing, and an FPS estimate should not be read as a promise for your resolution, settings, driver version, or game patch.
What if the game is listed for Windows but I use Linux or macOS?
Check operating-system compatibility separately from hardware performance. If the listing is Windows-only, Linux users need to determine whether the game works through Steam Play/Proton and whether their graphics drivers meet the relevant requirements. A Proton compatibility rating or report is evidence about whether the game works, not a universal FPS promise.

Steam warns that compatibility utilities and emulators are not supported by Steam Support. That distinction matters if you are troubleshooting a Windows game through a compatibility layer: success may depend on the compatibility setup rather than native support stated by the game publisher.
For macOS, do not infer compatibility from the PC hardware requirements alone. Check whether the game listing names a macOS version or whether a separately supported way to play is established. If the listed operating system does not include yours, the hardware comparison cannot answer the compatibility question.

No. Steam client requirements describe the baseline for the Steam client, not the hardware required by a specific game. PCGamingWiki’s Steam client table lists Windows 10 as minimum and Windows 11 as recommended, 2 GB minimum RAM and 4 GB recommended RAM, and a 64-bit operating system requirement; those figures must not be substituted for a 3D metroidvania’s own Store-page requirements.

Use the game’s listing for the run-it decision. The client baseline can help answer whether the Steam application itself meets its stated requirements, but it cannot establish whether the game’s CPU, GPU, memory, storage, or OS requirements are satisfied.

- Looking only at RAM: CPU, graphics, OS, and storage are separate requirements; check each one.
