To check whether a model is available in your Gemini account, sign in to Gemini Apps and open the model selector in the prompt composer. The models shown there are the practical, account-specific choices you can currently select. A model appearing in Google’s developer catalog does not by itself mean it is available in the Gemini app.

Check the model selector in Gemini

  1. Sign in at gemini.google.com or open the Gemini mobile app using the Google account you want to check.
  2. In a new chat, click or tap the model name in the prompt composer to open the selector. On desktop, Google’s instructions place this selector at the bottom of the prompt box; its position may differ on mobile.
  3. Look for the model in the list. If it appears, select it to use it. Google says you must be signed in to switch models. See Google’s Gemini Apps instructions for using Gemini on a computer.

For an existing conversation, check the model label at the top of the chat if the interface displays one. That label indicates the model associated with that conversation; use the prompt-composer selector to check the choices currently offered for a new chat.

What the model selector does—and does not—tell you

The selector answers a specific question: which models the signed-in account can currently choose in Gemini Apps. It does not show every model Google offers to developers, and a public API catalog entry does not guarantee access to that model in the consumer app.

Access path Where to check What the check establishes
Gemini Apps, personal account The model selector in the prompt composer; the current-chat label where shown Which models that signed-in account can select in Gemini Apps.
Gemini Apps, work or school account The same selector, plus the organization’s Gemini guidance or administrator Which choices are available under the organization’s access settings. Personal-account help is not a substitute for managed-account policy.
Gemini API Gemini API model catalog and the model-listing endpoint for the project Which API models or endpoints are available to the developer project—not which models appear in Gemini Apps.
Google AI Studio AI Studio and Gemini API regional availability Whether the developer service can be used in the user’s region and account circumstances.

If the model is missing from the selector

  • Check the active account. If you use more than one Google account, confirm the profile signed in to Gemini is the one you intend to use.
  • Check plan and country eligibility. Some Gemini models or features may depend on a plan, and Google AI plan and feature access can vary by country. Review Google’s Gemini Apps limits and upgrades guidance for personal accounts.
  • Check age eligibility. Age requirements differ by region, so a model or feature may not be offered to every eligible-looking account in every country.
  • For a work or school account, ask the administrator. An organization can manage Gemini access separately from personal accounts. A subscription change may not resolve an organization-level restriction.
  • Confirm you are checking the right product. A model listed for the Gemini API or AI Studio is not evidence that it should appear in the Gemini Apps selector.

For API or AI Studio access, check the developer service directly

If by “available” you mean usable by an application through the Gemini API, consult the API model catalog and query the model-listing endpoint using the relevant project credentials. The catalog describes developer endpoints; the project-level listing is the more relevant check for a particular project.

API preview and experimental endpoints can change. Check the current model documentation before depending on one. If AI Studio will not open, Google’s regional availability page identifies region restrictions, minimum-age requirements, and account age-verification as possible barriers. Those conditions concern AI Studio and Gemini API access and do not, by themselves, explain Gemini Apps availability.

If you used to see the model

Reopen the current in-app selector and check the current documentation for the relevant product. Availability can change, particularly for API previews and experimental endpoints; an earlier appearance in a catalog or account does not establish that access is still offered.
