There is no manufacturer check that clears a used CPU for every game or anti-cheat system. Intel’s identifier and warranty tools and AMD’s boxed-processor security checks can help verify identity, packaging, or possible warranty support; they do not reveal game-ban status. If access to a particular game is your concern, ask that game’s official support whether it offers a buyer-accessible check, and keep a return option.
First, clarify what the seller means by “banned”
“Banned” is not a standardized processor condition in the manufacturer guidance. A seller might mean a restriction in a particular game, a manufacturer warranty exclusion, an engineering sample, or a CPU that is counterfeit, remarked, defective, or unsupported. Ask which game or platform is involved and what restriction or message the seller knows about.
Keep three questions separate: does the CPU appear genuine, is manufacturer warranty service available, and could a particular game restrict access on the buyer’s system? A favorable answer to one does not settle the others.
What each check can tell you
| Check | What you need | What it can establish | What it cannot establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intel identifiers and warranty resource | Processor markings, including FPO and ATPO; the box may help with comparison | Identifier consistency and information about the part and potential warranty eligibility | Whether a game or anti-cheat system will restrict the CPU |
| AMD boxed retail authenticity check | Sealed retail package, security label, QR code, and CPU serial marking | Whether the package and CPU markings match AMD’s stated authenticity checks | Game-ban status; AMD directs questions about separately sold, non-sealed processors to the point of purchase |
| Support for the named game | The specific game and, if available, the device and restriction details | Whether the publisher can explain a buyer-accessible check or relevant restriction | A guaranteed clearance: support may not disclose private enforcement information |
| Seller and marketplace protections | Written listing, traceable payment, and clear return terms | A path to address an item that is misrepresented | A technical lookup of private enforcement records |
Check an Intel CPU
Compare the markings and identifiers
Intel’s processor warranty information guide, last reviewed July 16, 2026, explains how to find the FPO batch number and ATPO serial number and use them with Intel’s warranty information tool. Intel’s fraud-prevention guidance also explains identifying the ATPO from the processor’s 2D matrix and comparing its final five digits with the partial ATPO printed on the processor.

Ask for clear photos of the CPU markings and, if included, the box label. Compare them before paying. If identifiers are missing, unclear, or inconsistent, pause and ask the seller or Intel Customer Support rather than treating a lookup result as proof the part is safe to buy.
Watch for engineering-sample markings
Intel says that “Q,” “ES,” or “Confidential” markings on the heat spreader indicate an engineering sample. These are pre-production processors and are not eligible for Intel warranty. That status is a warranty and product-provenance concern, not evidence of a game ban.

- WELL PROVEN QUALITY: The design of our thermal paste packagings has changed several times, the formula of the composition has remained unchanged, so our MX pastes have stood for high quality
- EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE: ARCTIC MX-4 thermal paste is made of carbon microparticles, guaranteeing extremely high thermal conductivity. This ensures that heat from the CPU/GPU is dissipated quickly & efficiently
- SAFE APPLICATION: The MX-4 is metal-free and non-electrical conductive which eliminates any risks of causing short circuit, adding more protection to the CPU and VGA cards
- 100 % ORIGINAL THROUGH AUTHENTICITY CHECK: Through our Authenticity Check, it is possible to verify the authenticity of every single product
- EASY TO APPLY: With an ideal consistency, the MX-4 is very easy to use, even for beginners, Spatula incl.
Read the warranty result narrowly
Intel says boxed processors typically have a three-year limited warranty, with some one-year exceptions. The warranty tool can indicate whether a part is boxed or tray; if its result is inconclusive, Intel directs customers to Customer Support. Coverage depends on the exact part and applicable terms.
Intel’s stated policy is: “Intel does not honor warranty requests for used, gray-market, second-hand, gifted, or products purchased from other than our authorized distributors or resellers.” Intel also says it does not honor warranty requests for counterfeit or remarked processors. This is a warranty policy; it does not mean every used CPU is counterfeit or game-banned. Intel’s separate used and second-hand processor support article, last reviewed October 20, 2025, says Intel-refurbished replacements are covered for 90 days or the balance of the original warranty, whichever is greater. That replacement term is not coverage for a CPU bought used from an unrelated seller.

Check an AMD CPU
For a sealed retail box
AMD’s boxed-processor authenticity guidance says genuine Ryzen and EPYC retail packages have a tamper-evident security label. Inspect that the package has not been opened or tampered with, check the label’s color-shifting image and holographic “VALID” stripe, scan its QR code, and compare the CPU serial marking with the serial on the secured label.
These steps assess the retail package and matching markings. They are not a lookup of game or anti-cheat restrictions.

For a bare or separately sold processor
AMD says that authenticity and warranty questions for processors sold separately and not in sealed retail packaging should go to the point of purchase. Ask the seller for provenance and the applicable support or return terms; do not assume the boxed-package procedure applies to a tray or bare CPU.

If the seller says the CPU is banned from a game, name that game when contacting its official support. Ask whether there is a buyer-accessible pre-purchase check for the specific device. Do not assume support will disclose private enforcement records or issue clearance.

For example, Riot’s Vanguard restrictions guidance discusses computer restrictions and security or system-configuration requirements. It does not establish a public pre-purchase lookup for a used CPU’s VALORANT status. An error associated with Vanguard should not automatically be described as a ban on the processor: system configuration can also be relevant.
The official material cited here does not establish that a CPU alone is the identifier used for a game ban, nor does it establish a universal public lookup. Do not treat a manufacturer serial number, AMD QR scan, Windows system information, or a successful benchmark as game-ban clearance. Do not try to evade an enforcement restriction by changing or spoofing hardware identifiers.
Quick Recap
Use a safer buying process
- Get the exact model and evidence. Request the CPU model, sharp photos of its markings, and photos of the box and label if included. Ask plainly what “banned” means and whether the seller knows of a restriction tied to a game, platform, or account.
- Run the applicable manufacturer checks. For Intel, compare the markings and use Intel’s FPO/ATPO guidance and warranty resource. For a boxed AMD retail CPU, check the security label, QR code, and CPU-to-label serial match.
- Ask the named game’s official support. Describe the concern and ask if any buyer-accessible check exists; do not treat the absence of a public tool as a clearance.
- Keep a return path. Prefer a written description, traceable payment, and seller or marketplace terms that let you return an item that is not as represented. These protections reduce transaction risk but do not expose private enforcement records.
- Test after purchase if feasible. Use a compatible system and ordinary identification and stability checks. Record the system and configuration used; successful booting or a diagnostic result speaks to operation or identification, not game-ban status.
