To capture an AI-generated game demo from top to bottom, wait until the game has rendered in its intended state, then use your browser’s full-page capture command—not a screenshot of only the visible viewport. For repeatable captures, Playwright can save the full scrollable page with fullPage: true. If the game itself is the artifact, capture its canvas or a specific element instead.
The right method depends on what the image needs to show: the whole scrollable document, only the canvas, or a particular interface panel. Prepare the game before capturing, keep settings consistent if you will compare images, and inspect the saved file rather than assuming the command captured everything correctly.
What should a full-page screenshot include?
A full-page capture records the page’s scrollable content in one image; a viewport capture records only what is currently visible. That distinction matters when a browser game has instructions, a HUD, controls or content below the fold. A canvas-only capture is different again: it isolates the game surface or another selected element, rather than documenting the surrounding page.

Decide what the image needs to prove before you capture it. For a record of the whole demo page, use full-page capture. For a clean image of the game scene, select the canvas or game panel. If you need both, save separate captures and label them clearly.

These scopes answer different questions. A full-page image helps someone understand the complete demo page and its surrounding content; a canvas image focuses attention on the game itself; a selected panel can isolate a score display, instructions or another specific region. Choosing the scope first helps avoid a common mismatch: a technically successful screenshot that does not show the evidence or visual detail you wanted.
How do I prepare the game before capturing it?
First get the demo into the state you want to document. A screenshot records a moment, not a playable session, so an unstarted demo, loading frame or transitional animation may not show the intended result.
- Open the demo in a desktop browser and wait for the canvas, sprites, fonts and interface to render.
- If there is a start screen, begin the game and reach the scene or state you want to preserve.
- Dismiss cookie dialogs and other overlays where possible. Hide or close chat bubbles, and remove sticky headers if they cover the game.
- If you will compare screenshots later, record the browser zoom and viewport. Keep them consistent across captures.
- If the page uses lazy-loaded images, scroll slowly from top to bottom once before capturing so below-the-fold assets have a chance to load.
- Check whether animation needs to be frozen or avoided. If the exact frame is important, capture after the game reaches a stable state; otherwise, treat the image as a record of one moment in gameplay.
A useful order is to load the demo, reach the intended game state, clear obstructions, and then make a deliberate pass through the page if it contains lazy-loaded material. Do not confuse page readiness with game readiness: a page can finish loading while the canvas still shows a start screen, an incomplete scene or a loading frame. Look for a reliable signal that the game is ready, such as a visible HUD or a known canvas size, before starting the capture.

How do I capture the full page manually in a browser?
Use the full-page option explicitly. Browser labels and routes differ, and a normal screenshot shortcut may capture only the visible area.
Chrome or Chromium
- Open the game demo and wait until the target state is ready.
- Open DevTools, then open the Command Menu with
Ctrl+Shift+Pon Windows or Linux, orCmd+Shift+Pon macOS. - Type
screenshotand choose Capture full size screenshot. - If you need only the canvas or a particular panel, select that element in DevTools and use Capture node screenshot instead.
Do not confuse full-size capture with a visible-area capture. The former is for the scrollable page; the latter is limited to the viewport.
Choose the node option only when the selected element is the intended subject. It is not a substitute for a whole-page record: content outside that node, including instructions and other page context, will not be part of the image. Conversely, a full-size capture is the more useful choice when the goal is to show the demo page from top to bottom.

- Right-click the page and choose Take Screenshot.

- For a repeatable command, open Web Console and run

Firefox’s command also supports --delay, --dpr, --filename, --selector, --clipboard and --file. These options let you control timing, device-pixel ratio, output name, target element and output destination. When a particular option matters, check the syntax supported by your installed Firefox version.

For example, a delay can allow a demo to reach a stable frame, a filename can help keep a batch of images organized, and a selector can focus the capture on a specific element. The full-page flag still determines that the target is the whole page, so choose the scope that matches the deliverable.

Which browser method should I choose?
For a one-time capture, the browser’s own menu or developer tools are usually the most direct route: open the page, choose its full-page command, and inspect the result. For repeated captures, automation can make the process more consistent and easier to run again. The choice is not just about convenience; the scope, output and control options matter too.

There is no single best option for every demo. Use the browser you need to represent when browser-engine fidelity matters; use a command or automation when you want to repeat the procedure; and use a selected element when the surrounding page is not part of the deliverable. If the page is so tall that one image is clipped or unreliable, a sequence of clearly labeled sections is more useful than an incomplete full-page file.
How do I automate a full-page screenshot with Playwright?
Playwright’s screenshot workflow supports capturing the viewport, a specific element or the full scrollable page. Set fullPage: true for the entire page; use an element target when the game canvas alone is the subject. Playwright also identifies canvas and chart content as screenshot use cases.

- Choose the output format and scale that match the destination and comparison you need.

The action syntax above describes the documented screenshot operation; a browser automation setup still needs to open the demo and wait until it is ready before invoking the capture.
For a repeatable run, treat navigation, readiness and capture as separate steps. Open the demo URL, wait for a signal that represents the intended game state, and only then take the screenshot. A fixed delay is simple, but if loading varies from run to run it can either waste time or capture too early. A visible HUD or known canvas size gives the automation a state to wait for instead of guessing based only on elapsed time.
Pick one scope per image. A full-page capture is for the document’s scrollable content; an element-targeted capture is for a canvas or other selected element. Since the full-page option cannot be combined with an element target, save two images if you need both the overall page and a clean game-only view. Record the chosen format and scale when repeatability or review matters: CSS-pixel scale uses CSS pixels, while device-pixel scale yields a higher-resolution image.
Should I capture the canvas or the entire page?
Choose based on what the screenshot is meant to communicate. Full-page capture preserves the game alongside page content; an element capture isolates the visual game surface.

For a tall-page failure, do not keep retrying the same full-page capture without checking the result. Capture the canvas or sections separately, then label the sequence so its relationship to the original page is clear.
How can I make captures reliable and comparable?
A game demo changes while it loads and runs, so reliable capture depends on controlling state as well as choosing a screenshot command.
Wait for readiness, not just elapsed time
A fixed timeout can work when a demo loads predictably, but it is less robust when loading time varies. Prefer a state-based signal such as a visible HUD or a known canvas size. If those are unavailable, wait until the canvas, sprites, fonts and interface visibly finish rendering, then inspect the result.
Handle lazy content and overlays
Scroll through the document once before capturing if below-the-fold images load on demand. Dismiss consent dialogs and move chat widgets or sticky navigation out of the game’s way where possible. These obstructions can cover important content even when the capture technically includes the whole page.
Keep comparison settings steady
Use the same viewport, browser zoom and device-pixel ratio for before-and-after captures. Changing any of these can alter layout or image dimensions and make a visual comparison misleading. Record the settings alongside the screenshots if others will review them.

Consistency also means comparing like with like. If one image captures the whole page and the next captures only the canvas, their contents and dimensions will differ by design. If gameplay itself is changing, capture at comparable moments or note that each image shows one moment in play. A screenshot is a visual record, not a guarantee that the demo will reproduce the same animation frame each time.
What can go wrong, and how do I fix it?
When a capture looks incomplete, first check whether the game was ready and whether you selected the correct capture scope. Then inspect the page for overlays, lazy assets and height limits.

- The image shows only what was on screen: use the command labeled Capture full size screenshot, Save full page or Capture full page, or set
fullPage: truein Playwright. A viewport screenshot is not a full-page capture. - The game is blank, frozen or on a loading frame: wait for the game’s HUD or canvas to reach a ready state, begin the game if needed, and capture again after the intended scene appears.
- Sprites or images below the fold are missing: scroll slowly from top to bottom before capturing to trigger lazy loading, then take a fresh screenshot.
- A banner, chat bubble or sticky header covers the game: dismiss or hide the obstruction before capture when possible. Check the final image rather than assuming that full-page capture removed it.
- The page is cut off at the bottom or the image is extremely tall: capture the canvas or page sections separately and label the sequence. Full-page capture can be unsuitable when a page exceeds a browser’s maximum image height.
- Two screenshots do not line up for comparison: match the viewport, zoom and device-pixel ratio, and make sure the game is in a comparable state in both captures.
- The capture includes an unexpected animation frame: wait for a stable moment or freeze/avoid transient animation if the exact frame is essential. Otherwise, note that the screenshot represents one instant of gameplay.
When troubleshooting, change one thing at a time. First confirm the target state is visible in the browser. Next verify that you selected full-page or element capture intentionally. Then check for content that loads only after scrolling, overlays that remain on screen, and excessive page height. This makes it easier to tell whether the problem is the game state, capture scope or page itself.

What should I inspect before using the screenshot?
Open the saved image at 100% and check that it is usable, not merely that a file was created. Confirm that the intended game state, HUD text, sprites and backgrounds are visible and that the bottom of the document is included if you chose full-page capture.
- Verify that the screenshot shows the intended game state rather than a loading or start screen.
- Check that text is legible at the image’s actual display size.
- Confirm that the canvas or panel is not obscured by an overlay.
- For a full-page image, inspect the lower edge for omitted content or clipping.
- For a sequence of section captures, label the sections and their order.
Also check that the saved format and dimensions suit the intended use. If the image will be compared with another capture, confirm that both use the same scope and consistent viewport, zoom and device-pixel ratio. Why does my screenshot look different from what I see in the game?
A game may animate between the moment you view it and the moment the browser captures it. Differences can also come from changed viewport, zoom or device-pixel ratio, so keep those settings fixed when comparing images.
Can I use a phone to save a full-page screenshot as an image?
