On a PlayStation 5, press the Create button on the DualSense controller and choose Take Screenshot. The image is stored in Media Gallery, where you can crop, rotate, frame, or add text. Choose Share to send it to a recipient or supported destination, or use More > Copy to USB Drive when you need a local file on another device. For montages and more elaborate effects, Share Factory Studio adds filters, stickers, music, and other project tools.
Menu labels, sharing destinations, and limits can change with PS5 system software and region. Use the options currently shown on your console, especially when a support instruction differs from what you see.
How do I take a screenshot on PS5?
Press the Create button on the DualSense controller, then select Take Screenshot. The Create menu is also where you can save recent gameplay or start a new recording, so check that you have selected the still-image command before returning to your game.
Capture a still image
- Press the Create button once to open the Create menu.
- Select Take Screenshot. The PS5 captures the current game screen as a still image.
- Wait for the capture confirmation or return to the game. The image is now available in Media Gallery.
If you intended to save motion instead, choose Save Recent Gameplay for footage already played or Start New Recording for a new clip. Those commands create video, not a screenshot, and use different sharing rules later.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What capture settings can I change?
The Create menu exposes capture options for format and resolution. Open the capture-settings controls shown on your console before taking the image if you need a different output choice. Sony also provides audio options for captures; those settings matter to video clips, while a screenshot remains a still image. The exact choices and labels depend on the current PS5 software.
Where are my PS5 screenshots?
Open Media Gallery from the games home screen. PlayStation describes this app as the place to view and manage all saved screenshots and video clips. A Recently created card provides a quick route to new captures and can display up to 15 recent items.
Open a recent capture
- Go to the PS5 games home.
- Select Media Gallery.
- Choose the Recently created card to see the newest captures, or open the full gallery to browse older items.
- Select a screenshot to view it, edit it, share it, or open additional file actions.
Because the recent card is limited to the latest 15 items, an older screenshot can disappear from that shortcut without being deleted. Use the complete Media Gallery library when the image is not among the recent thumbnails.

How can I tell a screenshot from a clip?
Open the item in Media Gallery and check that it is a still image before choosing screenshot-editing tools. Video clips use the same library but follow separate recording, editing, and sharing behavior.

How do I edit a screenshot on PS5?
For a quick cleanup, edit the image directly in Media Gallery. Select the screenshot, choose Edit, and use the available crop, rotate, frame, and text tools. These controls are intended for preparing one image quickly rather than building a multi-image project.
Make a basic edit in Media Gallery
- Open Media Gallery and select the screenshot.
- Choose Edit.
- Use Crop to remove unwanted edges or adjust the composition.
- Use Rotate if the image orientation needs correcting.
- Apply a Frame when you want a border around the image.
- Choose the text tool to add a caption, label, or other wording.
- Use the on-screen confirmation controls to finish the edit, then return to the gallery when you are satisfied.
Keep the intended destination in mind while editing. A caption that is readable on a television may be too small in a phone message, while aggressive cropping can remove interface details someone needs to identify the game or moment.
When should I use Share Factory Studio?
Use Share Factory Studio when the job is larger than a single quick adjustment. Sony describes its photo editor as a way to build montages with text, filters, and stickers. The app also includes Bits and a video editor, and projects can use additional effects and music.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Share Factory Studio may already be installed, or its availability may depend on the console and current software. If it is not present, check the current app listing on your PS5 and the PlayStation Store rather than relying on an old menu screenshot. The app is an expansion for creative projects; Media Gallery remains the faster route for one screenshot that only needs framing or text.

How do I share PS5 screenshots?
Select the image in Media Gallery, choose Share, pick a recipient or supported destination, and send it. The available destinations are the ones currently offered by your console and account; if a service is not listed, use another available destination or export the file to USB.
Send a screenshot from Media Gallery
- Open Media Gallery from the games home.
- Highlight the screenshot you want to send.
- Select Share.
- Choose the recipient, conversation, or destination shown in the sharing panel.
- Review the selected item and confirm sending.
Sony’s support instructions specify a maximum of four screenshots in one share. A video share is limited to one clip at a time, and a clip shared with a group is limited to three minutes. These are procedural limits reported by PlayStation Support and may vary when software or regional rules change.
What if I need to send more than one image?
Select multiple still images in the sharing flow if the interface allows it, keeping the total at or below the current limit displayed by the console. If your set is larger, send it in separate batches or create a montage in Share Factory Studio first. A montage can be easier for a recipient to view, but it combines the images into a project rather than delivering each original capture separately.

Use a compatible USB flash drive or other compatible USB storage when you need the capture as a local file on a computer or another device. The storage is optional, and Sony’s instructions do not establish a universal drive model, capacity, or compatibility list; check the current PS5 requirements and formatting guidance before buying or formatting a drive.

Export one or more captures
- Connect the compatible USB storage device to the PS5.
- Open Media Gallery and select the screenshot.
- Open More.
- Choose Copy to USB Drive and follow the on-screen confirmation.
When the console recognizes the drive, Media Gallery can also show a USB tab for viewing supported images and videos stored on that device. If the tab does not appear, disconnect and reconnect the drive, then check that its compatibility and formatting meet the current PlayStation requirements rather than assuming every USB device will work.
Which PS5 workflow should I use?
Choose the shortest path that matches your destination. Media Gallery is for capture management and quick edits, Share is for delivering an item through a supported destination, Share Factory Studio is for a designed montage or effects-heavy project, and USB is for keeping a local copy outside the console.
| Your goal | Best starting point | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Save one moment during play | Create button > Take Screenshot | Captures a still immediately without leaving the game for a separate app. |
| Trim composition or add a label | Media Gallery > Edit | Provides crop, rotate, frame, and text controls. |
| Build a themed image montage | Share Factory Studio | Adds montage-focused text, filters, stickers, effects, and music options. |
| Send to a person or supported destination | Media Gallery > Share | Uses the console’s current recipient and destination choices. |
| Use the file on another device | Media Gallery > More > Copy to USB Drive | Creates a copy on connected compatible storage. |
What should I check when a screenshot workflow fails?
The screenshot is not in Recently created
The shortcut only surfaces up to 15 recent captures. Open the full Media Gallery library and browse there; the item may simply be outside the recent-card window.
The Edit command does not show the expected tools
Confirm that you selected a still image rather than a video clip, then open the item’s Edit command in Media Gallery. For filters, stickers, montages, music, or other project effects, switch to Share Factory Studio and verify that the current app listing is installed and available on your console.

The share panel will not accept my selection
Check the number and type of items selected against the limits shown by PlayStation Support: still-image batches, single video clips, and group-video duration are handled differently. If the console presents a different limit, follow that current on-screen rule because software and regional availability can change.
The USB option or USB tab is missing
Make sure the storage device is connected directly and is recognized by the PS5. If it is not, review current compatibility and formatting requirements; the available guidance does not name one drive model or capacity that works in every case.
Share Factory Studio is not listed
Check Media Gallery first for basic edits, then look at the current Share Factory Studio listing on the PS5 or PlayStation Store. Installation state and availability can differ by console software, so an older tutorial may show a menu that your system does not.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why did the sharing limit look different from an older PS5 guide?
PlayStation can change capture behavior with system software, and available destinations can differ by region. Treat the limit shown in the current sharing panel and the latest support guidance as authoritative for your console.
Can I edit a screenshot without installing another app?
Yes. Media Gallery includes built-in crop, rotate, frame, and text controls, so a separate editor is unnecessary for those adjustments. Share Factory Studio is optional when you want montage-style composition or broader effects.
Why can I see a USB drive but not my screenshot?
The USB tab is for supported images and videos stored on the connected device; it does not replace the console’s own capture library. First copy the selected item through Media Gallery’s More menu, then check the USB tab or inspect the drive on your other device.
What is the safest way to preserve the original before adding effects?
Export the unedited capture to compatible USB storage before building a montage or applying extensive creative changes. That gives you a local reference if you later want to make a different version.
