To capture an entire webpage in desktop Chrome, open DevTools, press Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux (or Cmd+Shift+P on macOS), type screenshot, and choose Capture full size screenshot. Chrome saves an image of the page beyond the visible screen to your configured Downloads location.

How do I take a full-page screenshot in Chrome?

Chrome’s built-in method uses the DevTools Command Menu. It does not require an extension, and it captures content below the visible viewport. Google’s DevTools documentation distinguishes this from Capture screenshot, which captures only what is currently visible.

  1. Open the webpage you want to capture in desktop Chrome.
  2. Open DevTools with Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+Option+I on macOS. You can also open DevTools from Chrome’s menu under More Tools.
  3. Click inside the DevTools panel, then open the Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+Shift+P on macOS.
  4. Type screenshot and select Capture full size screenshot.
  5. Wait for Chrome to finish. Check your configured Downloads folder for the image.

Choose Capture full size screenshot, not Capture screenshot, if you need the page below the fold. Chrome’s full-size command is intended to include content outside the current viewport.

Where is Chrome’s “Capture full size screenshot” option?

It is available through the DevTools Command Menu, and also from the Device Toolbar’s menu. If you do not see it, make sure DevTools has focus and search for “screenshot” in the Command Menu.

For the standard workflow, open DevTools and use its Command Menu as described above. To set a particular viewport before capturing, use the Device Toolbar workflow below.

How do I set a custom viewport before capturing?

Use Chrome DevTools’ Device Toolbar to choose a device preset or specify the viewport dimensions yourself, then capture the full page from the toolbar menu. This helps when you need the page rendered at a particular width rather than the default desktop viewport.

  1. Open DevTools and turn on the Device Toolbar.
  2. Choose a device preset or enter a custom width and height in the toolbar.
  3. Open the Device Toolbar’s three-dot menu.
  4. Select Capture full size screenshot.
  5. Look in the configured Downloads location for the saved image.

A Salesforce support procedure published on August 4, 2025 describes selecting a device preset such as iPad Pro before using the three-dot menu. A device preset changes the emulated viewport; it does not guarantee that a responsive page will look identical to the page on a physical device.

What is the difference between Chrome’s screenshot options?

Use the option that matches the area you need: visible viewport, full page, a selected area, or a particular page element. Chrome DevTools documents these as distinct screenshot techniques.

  • Capture screenshot: saves the currently visible viewport.
  • Capture full size screenshot: captures the page beyond the current viewport.
  • Area capture: captures a selected portion of the page.
  • Node capture: captures a specific page element, including an element larger than the screen.

DevTools also supports capturing a mobile version with a device frame. Use that when the frame is part of the result; use a viewport preset without a frame when you need a clean image of the rendered page.

Why might part of a webpage be missing?

Full-page capture cannot reliably include content that the page has not loaded or revealed. Dynamic websites may load images only as you scroll, or show content only after you click, dismiss a prompt, or open a section. Some web apps may return only the visible window rather than a complete page capture.

Sandisk 1TB Portable SSD, Up to 800MB/s Read Speeds, Black (Old Model) | External Solid State Drive, Compatible with Laptops & Tablets, Up to 2M Drop Protection, USB 3.2 Gen 2, USB-C to USB-A Cable
  • Solid state performance with up to 800MB/s read speeds in a portable drive. (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device, interface, usage conditions and other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
  • Back up your content and memories on a storage solution that fits seamlessly into your mobile lifestyle.
  • Take it with you on your adventures—up to two-meter drop protection means this durable drive can take a beating. (Based on internal testing.)
  • Secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind thanks to the tough rubber hook.
  • From Sandisk, a brand professional photographers trust to take on assignments.

Before capturing, scroll through the page to trigger lazy-loaded content and interact with controls that reveal the sections you need. Then return to the top and run the full-size capture again. If the page still omits content, the limitation may be how that particular app renders or exposes its content to the browser capture.

What should I try if the screenshot command is missing or the file is hard to find?

  • The Command Menu does not open: click inside DevTools first, then press the Command Menu shortcut again.
  • The search returns no obvious option: type “screenshot” and look for Capture full size screenshot; do not select the visible-only capture by mistake.
  • The capture appears to do nothing: allow Chrome a moment to finish, then check the configured Downloads folder.
  • The image stops at the viewport: confirm you selected full-size capture rather than Capture screenshot. If the correct command was used, the page or web app may not support complete capture in that state.
  • Content is absent from the image: load it by scrolling or interacting with the page before capturing.

Is a Chrome extension easier for one-click capture?

An extension can be more convenient if you regularly capture full pages or want an image or PDF download from a result tab. The Chrome Web Store listing for GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture says it captures the current page in its entirety, requests no extra permissions, and opens a result tab where you can download an image or PDF. Its listing displayed 4.9 stars from 84.3K ratings and 11,000,000 users when accessed on October 25, 2026; store counts and ratings change over time.

The built-in DevTools route avoids installing a third-party extension and offers viewport, area, and node capture options. An extension may reduce the number of steps, but the information available here does not establish a comparative capture-speed or success-rate benchmark. For content loaded only after interaction, either approach may still need you to prepare the page first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Chrome save a full-page screenshot as one image?

Chrome’s built-in full-size command saves an image of the page, including content beyond the visible viewport. If the page is dynamic, prepare the content first because elements that have not loaded or appeared may not be included.

Can I capture a webpage that is longer than my screen without an extension?

Yes. Desktop Chrome includes full-page capture in DevTools, so an extension is not required for the basic task. Use the DevTools Command Menu and choose the full-size option rather than the visible-viewport command.

Can Chrome capture a page after I scroll it?

Yes, and scrolling first can help trigger images or other content that loads on demand. Return to the top before taking the full-size capture if you want the screenshot to begin at the top of the page.

Does a device preset guarantee the screenshot will match a real phone or tablet?

No. The preset sets an emulated viewport for the page, but it does not establish that the result will be identical to a physical device. Treat it as a way to capture a responsive layout at chosen dimensions.
