Yes, many older BioWare games can still be bought and played, but “delisted” does not describe one uniform condition. A title may vanish from one store while remaining available elsewhere; an edition may be replaced by an ultimate or remastered package; or an online service may close while the downloadable single-player game continues to work. Before paying, verify the exact game, edition, platform, region, storefront, DLC contents, launcher, account requirement, and offline behavior. Current BioWare, EA, and Steam catalogs still represent several classic releases, including Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, Mass Effect games, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Jade Empire, Neverwinter Nights, and Baldur’s Gate. Those listings are useful signals, not guarantees that every version is sold everywhere.
What does “delisted” mean for a BioWare game?
“Delisted” usually means a product is no longer offered for purchase on a particular storefront. It does not automatically mean that existing owners lose the right to download or play it, and it does not prove that every edition has disappeared from every platform.
Four different situations are often confused:
- Storefront delisting: the exact product page is removed from a store, but existing licenses may remain in the owner’s library.
- Edition replacement: a standard release is replaced by an ultimate, deluxe, trilogy, or remastered edition. The older SKU may disappear even though the game remains commercially available.
- DLC separation: the base game is sold, but an expansion, bonus item, or redemption code is no longer distributed through its original route.
- Service closure: multiplayer, social features, cloud functions, or account websites shut down while an installed single-player campaign remains usable.
Consequently, answer these questions separately: Is the exact product sold now? Can an existing owner redownload and authenticate it? Does it require an EA Account, EA app, internet connection, or another launcher? Does the core game work offline? Are DLC, multiplayer, cloud saves, achievements, or social features still available?
Which BioWare games are still represented in current catalogs?
BioWare’s official games catalog currently presents Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Jade Empire, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur’s Gate, and other legacy releases. EA’s current catalog also lists Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Mass Effect: Andromeda, and Jade Empire. EA also maintains a separate page for older games that are no longer available. Therefore, seeing one BioWare title in a current catalog is not evidence that every older EA or BioWare release remains purchasable. Search the exact product page immediately before checkout and confirm that the buy button, edition name, region, and platform match your plan.
How do you check whether the exact edition is buyable?
Search for the complete product identity rather than the franchise alone. Include the game title, edition, platform, and region in your query, then open the current checkout page on the intended store.
Check the product identity
- Match the full title, such as “Dragon Age II: Ultimate Edition” rather than simply “Dragon Age II.”
- Confirm whether it is standard, ultimate, deluxe, trilogy, remastered, or another bundle.
- Verify the target platform and operating-system generation. A PC listing, a console disc, and a backward-compatible console version can have different rights.
- Check the seller and the account that will receive the entitlement. A code redeemed to the wrong account may not be transferable.
Read the edition contents
Do not assume that a higher-sounding edition contains every expansion. Look for an explicit list of campaigns, add-ons, bonus items, soundtracks, artbooks, and promotional packs. If the page says DLC is redeemed by code, determine whether the code is unused and valid in your region. If it says content is account-linked, plan to use the same account for future downloads.

Check regional and platform restrictions
Catalog visibility can differ by country, storefront, age rating, payment region, and platform generation. A listing visible in a search result may redirect to an unavailable page after you sign in. Treat the signed-in checkout screen as the decisive availability check, not a cached search snippet or an old forum post.
What happens to DLC when a BioWare game is delisted?
DLC is often the most important value and preservation issue. A cheap base game can be incomplete if expansions are unavailable, require a used code, or are tied to a service that no longer hosts them.

EA’s classic-game guidance identifies Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II as notable DLC cases. For Mass Effect purchased digitally through the EA app, EA states that all DLC is included with the game through that route, so separate DLC purchases or downloads are not needed there. That statement applies to the specified digital route; another storefront, physical edition, or region can have different packaging.
The former BioWare Social Network page states: “Dragon Age II official DLC is no longer hosted on the BioWare Social Network.” It redirects readers to EA’s current classic-game DLC guidance. Old instructions telling you to create or use a BioWare Social Network account should therefore not be treated as current purchase directions.
DLC questions to answer before paying
- Is each expansion included, or is it sold separately?
- Is the content integrated into the download, delivered as a separate entitlement, or unlocked by a code?
- Has a code already been redeemed on a used physical copy?
- Does the DLC require an EA Account or a live server for activation?
- Will the add-on work with your platform, language, and regional game disc?
Do older BioWare games still work on PC without the EA app?
Requirements vary by product and storefront. Some releases launch through Steam but still require an EA Account or EA app link; others have different authentication rules. The individual product page controls.
For example, the EA Mass Effect 2 product page states that an internet connection, an EA Account, and EA app or Origin software are required to play. Do not generalize that requirement to every BioWare game, but do treat it as a warning that “single-player” does not necessarily mean “no account or launcher.”
Before purchasing or reinstalling, record:
- Which storefront account owns the license.
- Whether launch goes through Steam, EA app, Origin software, or another client.
- Whether a separate EA Account link is required and whether the link is permanent.
- Whether the game can launch offline after installation and any first-run authentication.
- Whether cloud saves, achievements, multiplayer, or social features need a live service.
BioWare’s support notice says: “BioWare’s corporate office is unable to provide service or support for any Electronic Arts title. For account or technical assistance, please visit help.ea.com.” Use EA’s support channel for account, entitlement, launcher, and activation problems rather than relying on an obsolete BioWare forum.

Can a closed BioWare website make a game unplayable?
Not necessarily. A closed website can remove account management, downloads, forums, social features, or DLC hosting without disabling a separately distributed single-player executable.

BioWare’s Dragon Age Legends announcement illustrates the distinction: the online social application closed on June 18, 2012, while a separate downloadable game was offered. The closure of one service therefore does not answer whether every related downloadable product became unplayable.
Evaluate the dependency instead:
- Single-player executable: can the installed campaign start after authentication?
- Server-backed features: are multiplayer matches, leaderboards, social hubs, or cloud functions still operated?
- Account services: can an owner recover the entitlement and reset credentials?
- Content delivery: can expansions and patches still be downloaded?
If the core campaign is offline-capable but an online mode has closed, describe the game as partially functional rather than simply playable or unplayable.
Is Mass Effect Legendary Edition the simplest trilogy purchase?
For the original Mass Effect trilogy, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is the clearest bundled route when it is available for your platform and region. BioWare describes it as including the single-player base content and more than 40 DLC items from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, including promotional weapons, armor, and packs, remastered and optimized for 4K Ultra HD.
That makes it easier to compare than buying three separate legacy products and then auditing their add-ons. It does not guarantee a particular price, physical format, retailer stock, or platform entitlement. Confirm the current listing, included content, launcher, and save compatibility before checkout.

If you specifically need an original release, a particular console generation, a mod setup, or a separate regional edition, compare that product on its own terms. “Complete” is meaningful only when the edition’s contents and platform match what you intend to play.
How can you buy a used physical BioWare copy safely?
A used disc can provide access to an edition no longer sold digitally, but the disc, code, region, and hardware all matter.
- Identify the exact package. Record the title, edition, platform, region, and catalog number printed on the case or disc.
- Inspect the disc. Check for damage that could prevent installation or reading, and ask whether required manuals, inserts, or bonus-content cards are included.
- Verify activation codes. Assume a printed code may already be redeemed. Ask the seller for proof only if it does not expose personal account information; a used code is not guaranteed transferable.
- Check platform compatibility. Confirm that your console generation supports the disc or that the PC operating system and required launcher still accept it.
- Check DLC separately. A complete-looking box may contain a missing, expired, region-locked, or previously redeemed code.
- Keep proof of purchase. Save the receipt, listing details, serial information, and any unused code documentation.
Physical ownership also does not guarantee continued access to online modes, account services, patches, or cloud saves. Treat the disc as one part of the entitlement, not as a promise that every feature will remain available indefinitely.

Use this sequence for any legacy BioWare purchase:
- Search the exact game title plus edition and platform.
- Open the current signed-in checkout page and confirm seller, region, price, and owning account.
- Compare total content, not just the headline price.
- Verify DLC inclusion using current EA guidance rather than archived BioWare Social Network instructions.
- Read launcher, EA Account, internet, DRM, and offline-play terms.
- Determine whether the game is primarily single-player or depends on multiplayer and social servers.
- For used copies, verify the disc, region, activation code, hardware, and included extras.
- Save receipts, keys, order confirmations, and legally permitted installation media.
- After installation, confirm that you can launch the game and access purchased DLC before discarding packaging or changing accounts.
Never infer that a franchise page proves every older release is sold. Conversely, do not infer that a missing storefront page makes an already owned, offline-capable game unusable. Availability and playability are separate checks.

What if you already own a delisted game?
Start with the account that originally purchased or redeemed it. Check the library, hidden purchases, order history, and download list before assuming the license is gone. If the product is missing, confirm that you are using the original account and the correct regional storefront, then use EA support for entitlement or account assistance.

Keep the installer, patches, save backups, and legally permitted media together. A successful installation today does not guarantee that a future launcher change, account lockout, or server closure will preserve every feature. Back up saves separately from the game files because cloud synchronization may depend on a service that can change.
Which mistakes make a “cheap” legacy game expensive?
- Buying the standard edition and discovering that required expansions are unavailable.
- Assuming a used code is unused or transferable.
- Purchasing a disc for the wrong region or console generation.
- Ignoring a mandatory EA Account, launcher, or first-run internet check.
- Relying on an archived support page for current DLC instructions.
- Confusing a closed social or multiplayer service with total loss of the single-player game.

Save compatibility is edition- and platform-specific; a remaster may use a different save format or import process. Back up the original saves and check the product’s support documentation before deleting the older installation.
Are mods still possible after a game is delisted?
A delisting does not by itself remove local mod support, but unavailable patches, tools, or community servers can make setup harder. Keep clean, unmodified files and separate save backups so a mod problem does not damage your main campaign.
What should I do if a purchased game disappears from my library?
Sign out and back in to the original storefront account, check hidden games and order history, and verify the account’s region. If the entitlement still does not appear, provide the receipt or order number to EA support rather than purchasing a second copy.
