Building a company-verification API for Gulf markets is not mainly a matter of exposing one endpoint. The dependable design is a country-aware workflow that discovers supported jurisdictions, searches an official or licensed registry by a local identifier, retrieves a normalized company profile, and clearly reports what ownership and screening data can legally be returned. Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi illustrate why a single “Gulf coverage” label is inadequate: Saudi authorities describe a Wathq route for disclosed ultimate-beneficial-owner (UBO) data, while Abu Dhabi’s regulator says UBO details are restricted to competent authorities. A production API therefore needs a registry-by-registry coverage matrix, asynchronous enrichment, audit trails, access controls, and jurisdiction-specific compliance rules. The public material available for this topic does not establish the original product’s countries, integrations, performance, customers, or pricing, so those details should not be inferred.
What does a Gulf company-verification API need to do?
A useful API turns a business identity into evidence that a client can review and retain. The core transaction is usually: identify the country, submit a legal name or registration number, find matching entities, then request a detailed profile. One documented KYB pattern exposes country discovery, search, and profile retrieval as separate operations; its search may return preliminary data while richer details are fetched asynchronously, and an enhanced profile can take up to 30 minutes according to the vendor’s documentation. That is a provider-specific behavior, not a universal response-time promise. See the KYB Check V2 documentation.
For a Gulf deployment, the API should make the evidence boundary visible instead of presenting every field as equally authoritative. A registry-sourced legal name and registration status are different from a vendor-derived risk score. A public licence enquiry is different from restricted beneficial-ownership information. Each response should identify the source, retrieval time, field-level confidence or status, and any permission required to view it.
| Stage | Client supplies | API returns | Important design decision |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jurisdiction discovery | Optional country or state | Supported countries, identifiers, source status | Do not imply that every Gulf state or registry is covered. |
| Entity search | Country plus legal name or registration number | Candidate entities and match metadata | Preserve spelling variants, Arabic and Latin forms, and exact versus fuzzy matching. |
| Profile retrieval | Entity ID and requested fields | Registration, status, address, activities, dates, and permitted ownership fields | Separate immediate fields from asynchronous enrichment. |
| Monitoring | Entity and event subscription | Status or filing-change events | State the polling interval, event source, and retention period. |
How do I map Gulf coverage before writing the API?
Start with a coverage matrix, not a regional marketing claim. For each target jurisdiction, record the exact registry or authority, accepted identifiers, available fields, access method, licensing terms, update frequency, language, and whether personal or UBO data is restricted. “Gulf coverage” is meaningful only when a customer can see this country-by-country list.

Define the jurisdiction and identifier model
Use a canonical country code, registry name, and identifier type in every request. A Saudi commercial-registration number, an Abu Dhabi economic licence number, and a local branch identifier should not be accepted as interchangeable strings. Store the original value, a normalized value, and the normalization rule so an auditor can reproduce the search.
Record source rights and freshness
For every field, capture whether it came directly from an official registry, from a licensed intermediary, or from an enrichment service. Store retrieved_at, source version, and any stated update timestamp. If a source does not disclose freshness, return “freshness not stated” rather than inventing a service-level objective.
Plan for language and name variation
Arabic and Latin transliterations can produce several valid spellings of the same business. Keep the legal name exactly as returned by the source, add normalized search forms separately, and show the matching method in the result. Never silently replace a registry spelling with a translated name.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Can I check a Saudi company by its CR number?
Yes, when your chosen source supports Saudi commercial-registration lookup and your use is authorized. A CR number should be treated as a jurisdiction-specific identifier, not as proof that every associated owner or activity is available to your application.
A Saudi regulator notice dated 9 March 2026 describes the Ministry of Commerce’s Wathq service as providing access to disclosed UBO data for companies registered in Saudi Arabia, with data described as updated and approved. The notice establishes an official access route, but it does not establish that a commercial API has integrated it or that the data is available without conditions. Link your implementation and customer permissions to the applicable Wathq terms rather than assuming public access. Read the SAMA Rulebook notice.
A robust Saudi lookup flow should:
- Validate the country as Saudi Arabia and the identifier type as a CR number.
- Apply the documented format and reject impossible values before sending a registry request.
- Return exact matches separately from name-based candidates.
- Show registration status, legal name, activities, and dates only when the source supplies them.
- Gate UBO fields by the caller’s authorization, record the legal basis, and log every disclosure.
Can an API return a company’s beneficial owners in Abu Dhabi?
Not automatically. Abu Dhabi’s Department of Economic Development and Registration Authority describes TAHAQAQ as an economic-licence enquiry platform, while its business-compliance guidance says beneficial-ownership details are available only to competent authorities under applicable legislation. A commercial API must not present full Abu Dhabi UBO data as public registry content.

Use TAHAQAQ as a source-of-truth reference for licence enquiries where access is permitted, and treat UBO retrieval as a separate, permissioned workflow. The ADRA business-compliance guidance also describes record-keeping and update obligations; confirm the current legal text and territorial scope with qualified counsel before converting those obligations into product rules.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| Data question | What the cited authority establishes | Safe API behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Does the business hold an Abu Dhabi economic licence? | TAHAQAQ provides an economic-licence enquiry service. | Return licence results only through an authorized source connection and label the retrieval date. |
| Who are the beneficial owners? | ADRA says UBO details are restricted to competent authorities. | Require an approved entitlement; otherwise return a restricted or unavailable status. |
| How often must records be updated? | ADRA guidance describes business record-keeping and update duties. | Store the source’s stated obligation and avoid inventing a universal refresh interval. |
How should the API endpoints and asynchronous jobs work?
Separate discovery, search, profile, and monitoring resources so clients can handle partial data and delayed enrichment without guessing.
1. Supported jurisdictions
GET /v1/jurisdictions can return country code, registry name, identifier types, supported operations, language, and access restrictions. Include a version or effective date for the coverage record. A client should be able to disable a jurisdiction when its source agreement expires.
2. Entity search
POST /v1/companies/search should accept a country, identifier type, identifier or legal name, and matching preferences. Return a request ID, candidate IDs, match scores or match reasons, and a source status. Do not call a fuzzy match “verified”; verification occurs only after the client selects an entity and obtains source-backed details.
3. Detailed profile
GET /v1/companies/{id} should return a stable internal ID plus source identifiers, legal name, status, incorporation or registration dates, activities, addresses, officers, and ownership fields that the source and caller are entitled to receive. Mark each field as present, not stated by source, restricted, or temporarily unavailable.
4. Asynchronous enrichment
When the source needs additional processing, return 202 Accepted with a job ID rather than holding a connection open indefinitely. Provide GET /v1/jobs/{job_id}, an idempotent retry policy, and a webhook option. The documented KYB pattern cited above says richer profile data may arrive later and that enhanced processing can take up to 30 minutes; expose the provider’s stated window in your contract instead of promising instant results.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
5. Monitoring and change events
Monitoring should identify the exact source and event types: status change, licence expiry, ownership update, or filing event. Include the previous and new values where disclosure is allowed, a source timestamp, and a reason when an event is uncertain. A polling-only source should not be represented as real-time monitoring.
Which fields and response statuses make verification explainable?
Clients need to distinguish “not found” from “not permitted” and “source temporarily unavailable.” A compact status model prevents dangerous automation decisions.
| Status | Meaning | Recommended client action |
|---|---|---|
verified |
Source returned a matching record and requested fields. | Store the evidence and continue according to policy. |
ambiguous_match |
Several candidates satisfy the search. | Ask for a stronger identifier or manual review. |
not_found |
No record was returned for the supplied criteria. | Check spelling, identifier type, and jurisdiction. |
restricted |
The field or source requires authority or a permitted purpose. | Do not retry with altered parameters; request authorization. |
pending |
Enrichment has been accepted but is not complete. | Poll or receive the webhook using the job ID. |
source_unavailable |
The upstream registry or connector did not respond. | Retry with backoff and preserve the failed-attempt audit record. |
Keep raw source payloads in a protected evidence store when contract and law allow, while exposing a normalized schema to application developers. Hash or version payloads so a later change can be traced to a specific retrieval. Do not overwrite an old status without retaining the effective time and source reference.
What security and compliance controls are required?
Company verification can involve personal data, ownership information, sanctions screening, and sensitive commercial records. Security must be part of the data model, not an afterthought.
- Authorization: Use tenant isolation, least-privilege scopes, and separate permissions for company data, ownership data, and screening results.
- Purpose limitation: Record the customer’s stated use and block requests that exceed the source agreement or legal basis.
- Auditability: Log caller, purpose, fields disclosed, source, timestamp, decision, and administrator access. Protect logs from alteration.
- Encryption: Encrypt transport and stored evidence, and manage keys separately from application data.
- Retention: Configure deletion or anonymization by jurisdiction and contract. A generic, permanent retention period is unsafe.
- Human review: Route ambiguous matches, adverse screening results, and restricted ownership requests to trained reviewers instead of making an automatic denial.
- Vendor due diligence: Verify source rights, subprocessors, breach procedures, and cross-border transfer terms before production use.
Some API vendors advertise combined registration data, KYB/AML, PEP and sanctions screening, user management, and unit-based billing. Those are vendor descriptions, not independent proof of coverage, accuracy, performance, or legal compliance. Review the FirstLink API documentation as an example of the category, then validate every feature and permitted use in a contract.
How should I compare providers for Gulf coverage?
Compare evidence and operating terms, not logos or a regional slogan. Ask each provider for a current, country-by-country source list and test the exact identifiers your customers use.

A Saudi vendor page advertises CR verification, KYB bundles, certificates, monitoring, risk scores, and bulk enrichment, but the page was not independently validated and a direct access attempt returned 403. Treat those statements as unverified marketing until current documentation, source rights, and contractual terms are confirmed. See the Wathq Trust Layer page only as a vendor claim, not as proof of government integration or performance.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What is a practical build sequence?
Build the smallest auditable path first, then add jurisdictions and enrichment only after source rights and failure behavior are proven.
- Write the coverage contract: List target jurisdictions, registries, identifiers, fields, access conditions, retention, and expected update behavior.
- Implement one source adapter: Keep registry-specific authentication, pagination, rate limits, and field mappings behind an adapter interface.
- Create a canonical schema: Version names, identifiers, statuses, dates, addresses, activities, officers, ownership, source metadata, and field permissions.
- Add matching safeguards: Support exact identifier matching first, then controlled name matching with explainable reasons and manual-review thresholds.
- Add asynchronous jobs: Persist job state, use idempotency keys, expose polling and webhooks, and test duplicate or late callbacks.
- Secure sensitive fields: Enforce tenant and role scopes, encrypt evidence, redact logs, and make UBO access an explicit permission.
- Test operational failures: Simulate rate limits, malformed identifiers, empty results, source outages, revoked credentials, and changed registry schemas.
- Publish honest documentation: Show sample responses, status meanings, source dates, limits, data rights, and a change log. Never promise coverage that is not listed.
What commonly goes wrong, and how do I recover?
The API claims regional coverage but misses a registry
Replace the broad label with a live coverage endpoint and a per-country matrix. Return an explicit unsupported-jurisdiction error before accepting payment or creating a verification case.
A name search returns the wrong company
Require a registration number where available, display candidate evidence, and prevent automatic approval from fuzzy similarity alone. Preserve Arabic and Latin forms so reviewers can see why a candidate matched.
Ownership data is blank
Blank does not mean “no beneficial owners.” It may mean the source does not publish the field, the caller lacks authority, or enrichment is still pending. Return restricted, not_stated, or pending distinctly.

Customers treat a risk score as a legal decision
Document the score’s inputs and limitations, require human review for adverse outcomes, and separate screening signals from the registry facts that support identity verification.
What can be claimed about the original “built” API?
Only claims supported by current product documentation, source agreements, logs, and customer contracts should be attached to a named implementation. The available public sources do not establish its supported Gulf countries, registry integrations, architecture, latency, uptime, pricing, accuracy, customer outcomes, or legal approvals. A technically honest case study can still explain the design decisions, but it should label unverified capabilities as planned or unknown rather than presenting them as shipped facts.
The defensible outcome is a jurisdiction-aware verification service: it tells the caller where data came from, what was returned, what remains restricted or pending, and which human or legal step is required next. That transparency is more valuable than a longer country list that cannot be substantiated.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between KYB verification and company registration lookup?
A registration lookup reports records such as legal name, status, licence, or registration date. KYB is a broader control process that can add identity matching, ownership checks, sanctions or PEP screening, risk decisions, and ongoing monitoring; the exact bundle depends on the provider and the customer’s legal obligations.
How long should a company-verification API keep the source response?
There is no universal period. Set retention by the source contract, the customer’s documented purpose, and applicable privacy and record-keeping rules, then delete or anonymize evidence when that period ends while preserving only what an audit obligation requires.
Should a failed registry request be retried automatically?
Retry only errors identified as transient, such as a timeout or rate limit, using exponential backoff and an idempotency key. Do not retry authorization failures, restricted-data responses, or invalid identifiers as if they were temporary outages.
What should a webhook contain when ownership data changes?
Include the entity ID, event type, source timestamp, retrieval timestamp, changed-field classification, and a link to the signed or hashed evidence record when disclosure is allowed. Avoid placing full personal ownership details in the webhook payload; let an authorized client fetch them through a separately protected endpoint.
