Build your Legend of Witch: Idle RPG team around the element of the skills your witch is actually using, then choose the strongest bonuses among the matching Friends you own. A high-star Friend with the wrong element can be a poorer fit than an attainable, lower-star Friend that boosts your active damage type. Compare elemental attack, Skill Damage, resource bonuses such as Bonus Gold, current gear and upgraded skills before settling on a lineup.
This is not a conventional tank-healer-DPS game, at least not according to the available documentation. The official listings describe an idle auto-battle RPG built around a witch, equipment, skills, attributes and companions called Friends; they do not establish fixed combat roles or a universal formation size. The elemental examples below come from Cristina Mesesan’s Pocket Gamer guide dated October 28, 2026, so treat them as dated recommendations rather than developer-certified rankings.
What does a balanced team mean in Legend of Witch?
In this game, balanced means aligning your Friends with the element of the witch’s equipped skills while selecting useful secondary bonuses from the Friends available to you. It does not mean forcing one tank, one healer and three damage dealers into a standard formation. No reviewed official source defines those roles or confirms a fixed number of Friends that every player must field.

The game’s official store descriptions establish the broad systems: idle auto-battle, character growth through equipment and skills, attributes, and Friends. They do not publish a developer-authored tier list or exact elemental damage multipliers. Pocket Gamer’s guide supplies practical examples for Fire, Wind, Water and Lightning, but its advice is editorial. Cristina Mesesan summarizes the approach as: “The element is the deciding factor for the Friends.”

Use that principle as a filter, not as a promise of a particular win rate. There are no independently verified measurements showing that one five-Friend combination produces a specific percentage improvement, and the store’s download or rating figures say nothing about team effectiveness.
How do I build a team around my favorite Friend?
Start with the Friend you most want to use, identify its element, and then make the witch’s active skills support that same element whenever your account allows it. After that, compare the matching Friends you actually own instead of copying an ideal roster that may require unavailable five-star characters.
- Anchor on the favorite. Write down whether the Friend supports Fire, Wind, Water or Lightning. Check the witch’s currently equipped skills and note their elements. If the favorite and the skill loadout point to different elements, decide whether to change skills or accept a temporary compromise.
- Filter your roster by element. List every owned Friend that matches the active skill element. Put attainable alternatives ahead of characters that exist only in a guide’s example. The Pocket Gamer guide specifically warns that five-star Friends can be difficult to acquire.
- Compare bonuses, not just star ratings. For each candidate, record its elemental benefit and its other useful bonus. Ask whether your account needs more elemental attack, more Skill Damage, or an economy benefit such as Bonus Gold. A star count is only one part of the decision.
- Build a provisional group from owned options. Use the guide’s lineups as patterns, not as proof of a universal slot cap or mandatory order. If a named Friend is missing, substitute another matching-element Friend and document what bonus you are giving up.
- Recheck the complete build. Look at equipment on the witch and Friends, plus any relevant skill upgrades. The Water recommendation is explicitly gear-dependent, while the Lightning recommendation is conditional on upgraded skills.
- Revisit after progression. A new skill, a Friend equipment enhancement or an upgrade that changes your damage focus can alter the best choice. Rebuild the comparison whenever your active element changes rather than treating the first lineup as permanent.
Should I use my highest-star Friends or match elements?
Match the element first, then use stars and availability as tie-breakers. A high-star Friend that does not support the witch’s active skill element may contribute less to the plan than an attainable matching Friend with a useful Skill Damage or elemental bonus.
This does not make stars irrelevant. A higher-star Friend may have better attributes or bonuses in your account, and you should compare its actual displayed benefits. The key is to avoid selecting a roster solely because a guide labels a character as top tier. The dated guide’s overall tier table even lists Echor twice in different tiers, an internal inconsistency that makes its specific elemental examples more useful than its broad labels.
When two matching Friends are both available, use a simple priority order: first the skill-element match, second the bonus that supports your immediate goal, third current gear and upgrades, and only then star level or collection prestige. If you are farming currency, a resource bonus can be more valuable to your progression than a small damage-oriented distinction; if a stage is damage-limited, Skill Damage may deserve priority.
Which Friends are suggested for Fire skills?
The dated Fire example lists Flame, Lava, Pyro, Bella and Draco. It describes Fire as workable in early to midgame, not as a universally dominant element, so use this lineup as a starting point for a Fire-focused witch rather than a permanent meta verdict.
| Fire decision | How to evaluate it |
|---|---|
| Core element | Keep the witch’s active skills aligned with Fire before comparing individual Friends. |
| Bella versus a resource option | The guide contrasts Bella’s Skill Damage with another Fire choice that provides Bonus Gold. Choose according to whether combat damage or account economy is the current bottleneck. |
| Lineup status | Flame, Lava, Pyro, Bella and Draco are examples from the guide, not proof that every player has five required slots or that every name is obtainable at the same point in progression. |
Do not claim that Bella always wins the comparison. The relevant question is what your other owned Fire Friends provide and whether your witch already receives enough Skill Damage from skills or equipment. If your goal is faster resource accumulation between sessions, a Bonus Gold choice can be rational even when it is not the guide’s damage-focused preference.

What is the recommended approach for Wind teams?
The Wind example names Pega, Echor, Eagle, Leaf and Storm. If Storm is missing, the guide specifically mentions Luger or Willow as alternatives. Willow offers Skill Damage but, in the described comparison, gives up some Wind ATK relative to the suggested alternative, so the substitution is a trade-off rather than an equal replacement.
| Situation | Practical choice | Trade-off to record |
|---|---|---|
| You own Storm | Consider Storm within the Pega, Echor, Eagle and Leaf example. | Confirm that your active skills and current equipment are still Wind-focused. |
| Storm is unavailable and you value Skill Damage | Consider Willow if its Skill Damage bonus fits your build. | The guide describes lower Wind ATK than the compared alternative. |
| Storm is unavailable and you want the listed attack emphasis | Consider Luger, subject to what your account owns and displays. | You may give up Willow’s Skill Damage benefit. |
Wind is a good example of why “best Friend” is an incomplete question. Two matching candidates can support different goals, and the guide does not provide a numerical conversion that would let you declare one universally superior. Record the bonus you are sacrificing when you substitute, then reassess after a skill or equipment change.
How should I build around Water skills?
The dated Water example lists Aquari, Silva, Marine, Snow and Pen, but it qualifies the recommendation by availability and gear. A Water lineup should therefore be judged together with the equipment supporting it, not from the Friend names alone.
Before rejecting Water, check whether your witch’s gear reinforces Water damage and whether the Friends have relevant equipment or enhancements. A player with incomplete gear may reasonably use a different matching element for progression, while a well-equipped Water setup can become more attractive as those dependencies are met. The available sources do not establish a permanent Water meta or a measured damage advantage.

Use the five names as a comparison checklist: identify which of Aquari, Silva, Marine, Snow and Pen you own, inspect each displayed elemental and secondary benefit, and fill gaps with attainable Water options. Do not present an unavailable five-star Friend as a requirement for entering Water content.
Is Lightning better if I do not have every suggested Friend?
The Lightning example lists Aura, Prism, Thor, Sparky and Ivy and is described as especially favorable when relevant skills have been upgraded. It is conditional advice, not proof that Lightning is always the strongest element or that Aura is a universal requirement.
The guide’s statement that Aura is mandatory is the guide author’s opinion. Treat it as a preference to investigate, not as a developer rule. If Aura or another listed Friend is missing, build from the Lightning Friends you own, keep the witch’s skills aligned, and compare the bonuses you retain against the ones you lose.

Skill upgrades matter here. A Lightning lineup assembled before the relevant skills are improved may not reflect the guide’s intended power curve. Conversely, an upgraded skill can justify revisiting Lightning even if your roster has not changed. Keep the condition visible in your notes: “Lightning with upgraded skills,” rather than “Lightning is best.”

Use a short decision worksheet instead of an unexplained tier label. The worksheet makes your trade-offs explicit and works for every element.
| Question | What to write down | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Does the Friend match the active skill element? | Fire, Wind, Water or Lightning | The elemental match is the primary filter in the dated guide. |
| Do I actually own and develop this Friend? | Owned status, star level and upgrade state | An unattainable ideal does not help your current roster. |
| What is the main benefit? | Elemental attack, Skill Damage or another displayed effect | Different bonuses serve different bottlenecks. |
| Is there a resource benefit? | For example, Bonus Gold | Economy gains can support long idle sessions and upgrades. |
| What equipment supports it? | Witch gear and Friend equipment | The Water advice is specifically gear-dependent, and equipment systems have changed. |
| Are the relevant skills upgraded? | Current skill enhancement level | The Lightning recommendation is conditional on upgraded skills. |
When the answer is close, keep both candidates. Use one as your damage-oriented setup and the other as your economy-oriented setup, then switch according to the activity. That preserves flexibility without pretending that the sources establish a single mathematically optimal composition.
Can I mix Fire, Wind, Water and Lightning Friends?
You can treat a mixed roster as a fallback when your collection or skills do not support a complete matching set, but it weakens the elemental logic that the dated guide emphasizes. A mixed choice is most defensible when one Friend’s secondary bonus solves a clear problem that outweighs the lost elemental alignment.
Do not assume that five individually highly ranked Friends automatically form a balanced team. First identify the element your witch is exploiting, then add exceptions deliberately and mark them as temporary until you obtain a matching alternative or change your skill loadout.
How do Friends, gear and skills interact?
Friends should not be evaluated in isolation. The witch’s equipped skills establish the element you are trying to support; gear can determine whether an element performs as intended; and skill upgrades can change the value of a conditional recommendation.
The official version history for the US App Store records additions and changes involving Friends equipment and enhancement. That means an older lineup can look different after a system update even if the Friend names have not changed. Check the bonuses and equipment shown in your installed version instead of copying an old screenshot or tier label.

Store snapshots can differ by region and platform, so this is not a claim that 1.14 is the latest version everywhere. What should I do when a recommended Friend is unavailable?
Replace the missing character by preserving the same element first, then preserve the bonus category that matters most to you. The Wind example provides the clearest documented substitution: Luger or Willow can stand in when Storm is missing, with Willow trading some Wind ATK for Skill Damage in the described comparison.

It is also reasonable to use fewer ideal matches temporarily while you develop the roster, provided the game’s current formation screen permits that choice. The sources do not verify a universal formation limit, so rely on the slots and rules shown by your version rather than assuming that every published five-name list is a mandatory five-person formation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What mistakes make a supposedly balanced team underperform?
- Copying stars without checking elements: A high-star Friend with no connection to your active skills can undermine the intended elemental bonus.
- Treating a dated tier list as a permanent ranking: The guide is dated October 28, 2026, and its overall table contains an Echor duplication. Use the attributed Fire, Wind, Water and Lightning examples, not an unqualified tier order.
- Ignoring secondary bonuses: Bella’s Skill Damage and a Fire alternative’s Bonus Gold serve different goals. The same principle applies to Willow’s Skill Damage versus the Wind ATK trade-off.
- Overlooking gear: The Water recommendation is explicitly dependent on gear, and Friend equipment systems have received changes.
- Skipping skill upgrades: The Lightning recommendation is conditional on upgraded skills, so an unupgraded copy is not the same build.
- Calling an author opinion a game rule: Aura being described as mandatory is not developer confirmation.
- Assuming every list proves a slot cap: Five-name examples do not establish a universal formation size.
- Using unsupported performance numbers: No reviewed source supplies a verified damage uplift, win rate or benchmark for any lineup.
How often should I rebuild the lineup?
Recheck the team whenever one of four things changes: the witch’s equipped skill element, a major skill upgrade, Friend equipment or enhancement, or the set of matching Friends you can actually develop. You do not need to replace a lineup after every minor level increase, but you should repeat the worksheet after a system update or a major build change.
Keep a simple record of the current element, the Friends selected, the bonus you prioritized and the trade-off you accepted. This prevents you from forgetting why a resource-focused Friend replaced a damage-focused one and makes it easier to return to the previous setup for a different activity.
What the available evidence does—and does not—prove

A quick decision checklist
- What element do my currently equipped witch skills use?
- Which of my owned Friends match that element?
- Which candidate gives the elemental benefit I need?
- Would Skill Damage, elemental attack or a resource bonus help more right now?
- Are the witch’s gear and Friend equipment compatible with this choice?
- Have the relevant skills been upgraded, especially for a Lightning build?
- If I am substituting, what exact bonus am I giving up?
- Has my game version changed the equipment or enhancement system?
If you can answer those questions, you have a defensible balanced team even when your roster does not contain every name in a dated guide. The best lineup is the one that matches your active element, uses Friends you can actually develop and makes its bonus trade-offs explicit.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I build a team around my favorite Friend if its element does not match my best skills?
First decide whether changing the witch’s skill loadout is realistic for your account. If not, keep the favorite as a deliberate exception and fill the remaining choices with Friends that match the active skill element, documenting the bonus you sacrifice.
Who can replace Storm in a Wind lineup?
The dated Pocket Gamer guide names Luger or Willow as alternatives when Storm is unavailable. Willow is the Skill Damage-oriented option in the guide’s comparison, while the alternative retains more emphasis on Wind ATK; neither is presented as a guaranteed equal replacement.
Is Lightning still worthwhile if I lack Aura or another listed Friend?
Yes, but treat the Lightning recommendation as conditional rather than mandatory. Use the Lightning Friends you own, keep your skills aligned, and reassess after the relevant skills and equipment are upgraded.
How can I tell whether a guide’s five-Friend list is a required formation?
The available official listings do not confirm a universal formation limit. Check the number of slots and rules shown in your installed version; a published five-name lineup may simply be an example roster.
