The SEO Master Agent uses task-specific inputs and fixed JSON output fields to make an LLM behave more like a typed function: a caller selects a task, supplies the required values, and receives a result in a shape the application can handle. That is an interface-design pattern, not a guarantee that the model’s recommendations are accurate or will improve rankings. The project author describes five workflows, request validation, background processing, and retrievable task results; the details below distinguish that account from the broader prompt-contract principles it illustrates.

What does it mean to treat a prompt as a contract?

A prompt contract spells out what a model task expects and what it must return. Rather than asking for SEO help in an open-ended way, an application can define a task name, require specific input fields, and ask for a response with predetermined keys. The application can then pass those fields to its own code without first trying to interpret an arbitrary block of prose.

“Typed function” is an analogy for that predictable shape. In a conventional typed function, a caller supplies values of specified types and gets a defined kind of result. A prompt cannot make a language model equivalent to a compiler or guarantee that every value is correct. It can, however, make the intended interface explicit and easier for software and people to inspect.

In his account of the SEO Master Agent, author Shivam Kumar describes prompts whose inputs and output fields are specific to each SEO workflow. He summarizes the design as: “That’s a prompt written as a type signature.” The useful point is not that the phrase proves model reliability; it is that a prompt can be designed as one part of an application interface.

Which SEO tasks does the agent define?

The project account describes five task types. Each has its own required inputs, so selecting a task also determines what information the caller must provide.

Task type Required inputs described by the author What the workflow covers
onpage URL and keyword On-page optimization suggestions, including title, meta description, H1, keyword-density analysis, and content recommendations.
offpage Niche Link-building outreach.
gmb Business name and services Google Business Profile copy generated as a draft for a person to publish.
content Blog URL Content repurposing.
geo City and service Geo SEO copy, including local details and localized body text.

These are the task names and input requirements reported in the author’s article, not a claim that the set covers every SEO need. In particular, the author says rank tracking is not implemented as a workflow. The distinction matters: a tool that drafts local-profile copy is not thereby an autonomous publisher, and a collection of content tasks is not automatically a rankings-monitoring system.

How do task-specific inputs make the request more predictable?

When the caller chooses a task, the application can check that the inputs needed for that task are present before asking the model to do any work. In the described implementation, missing required inputs produce HTTP 422 rather than being guessed. That is a useful boundary: an incomplete request is surfaced as an input problem instead of silently becoming a request with invented context.

The requirements are deliberately different across workflows. A local copy request needs a business name and services; a geo SEO request needs a city and service. Putting these into one generic prompt without declaring which are mandatory would make it easier to send an underspecified request and harder for the application to tell what is missing.

The pattern separates three concerns:

  • Task selection: which kind of work the caller wants.
  • Input validation: whether the request contains the values required for that task.
  • Model instruction: what the model should do with the accepted inputs.

This separation helps clarify where a failure occurred. A missing field can be rejected at the request boundary; a model task that has started can instead end in a processing error. The author describes task records moving through pending, running, and success or error states, which gives the application a place to represent that processing lifecycle.

What does the model return, and why use fixed JSON keys?

The prompts ask for raw JSON with fixed keys, rather than a response whose structure is left entirely to the model. The author’s on-page example includes optimized_title, optimized_meta_description, h1_suggestion, keyword_density_analysis, and content_recommendations. The geo example includes geo_title, geo_meta_description, local_landmarks_to_mention, and localized_body_copy.

Those names make the intended output legible to downstream consumers. For instance, a frontend can present the optimized title separately from the recommendations instead of treating the entire model response as one undifferentiated text string. The structure also gives a reviewer a checklist of expected result categories. The project account describes results becoming available through a task endpoint, though it does not provide independent performance measurements for the generated content.

There is an important limit: fixed keys specify the shape of the answer, not the truth of its contents. A response can contain every requested key and still include a weak suggestion, unsupported statement, or inappropriate local reference. JSON validity and SEO quality are separate checks. This design should therefore be understood as a way to make interactions more structured, not as proof of factual reliability or search performance.

How does a request move through the described application?

The article describes an API request that is validated and queued, then processed by a background worker. The result is associated with a task record and can be retrieved through a task endpoint. This arrangement lets a caller submit work and look up its state rather than assuming the model has finished at the instant of submission.

  1. Submit a task: send a request to POST /api/execute with a task type and its required inputs.
  2. Validate the request: the application checks the task and required fields; the author says a missing input receives HTTP 422.
  3. Queue the work: accepted work is recorded and placed for background processing.
  4. Process the task: a worker runs the task, with records described as moving through pending, running, and then success or error.
  5. Retrieve the result: use the task endpoint described by the author to obtain the task result and status.

The article reports that its smoke test covers authentication, invalid inputs, execution, retrieval, and errors. That is a description of the author’s implementation and test coverage, not an independently reproduced test result. Similarly, the article reports an SSRF guard and fail-closed X-API-Key authentication; readers should treat those as claims about the described project rather than a general property of prompt contracts.

What belongs in a robust prompt contract?

The companion chapter, “Prompts as Contracts” in AI Agent Engineering in Practice, lays out nine elements for a broader contract. They help distinguish a prompt that merely requests an answer from one intended to guide an operational system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Objective: define the task’s intended outcome.
  2. Inputs: identify required values and the information available to the task.
  3. Constraints: set boundaries on what the task may return or assume.
  4. Tool contract: specify which tools are available and what they are for.
  5. Approval gate: state when a person must review or approve an action.
  6. Forbidden actions: name actions the task must not take.
  7. Refusal or stop conditions: explain what to do when it cannot proceed safely or correctly.
  8. Completion criteria: make the conditions for considering the task complete observable and verifiable.
  9. Output schema: define the response structure expected by downstream users or code.

Not every task needs tools or an approval gate. Naming those elements still helps a designer decide whether they apply. For example, the distinction between draft text and publishing action is consequential: in the account described here, Google Business Profile copy is generated for a person to publish. A contract can make that boundary explicit instead of leaving a reader to infer it from a task name.

How is a contract different from a vague prompt?

A weak request may sound clear to a person but leave software with no reliable way to validate inputs, enforce limits, or determine when the response is finished. An operational contract makes those decisions explicit. The comparison below follows the design dimensions named in the companion chapter.

Design question Vague request Operational contract
What must the caller provide? Inputs may be implied or omitted. Required fields are named for the selected task.
What are the boundaries? Constraints and prohibited actions may be absent. Constraints and forbidden actions are stated where relevant.
Can the task use tools or act? Available tools and approval points may be unclear. Tool permissions and human approval requirements are explicit.
What if information is missing or conflicts? The model may be left to infer what to do. Validation, clarification, refusal, or stop behavior can be specified.
How do you know it is done? Completion may be subjective. Completion criteria are made observable and verifiable.
What shape does the result have? The format may vary from response to response. A stable output schema gives consumers a defined structure.

This is a design framework, not an empirically measured guarantee. A more explicit contract can make expectations easier to test and failures easier to locate, but the existence of a checklist does not establish how accurate a particular model will be.

What security and operational caveats should users notice?

The project article reports several implementation details that are useful to distinguish from the prompt design itself. It says per-request provider keys are held in memory, while a local settings endpoint stores keys in SQLite. The author explicitly says that local endpoint is not a secrets manager and recommends environment variables for production. Those details concern key handling in the described application; they are not properties inherent to JSON prompting.

The author also reports fail-closed API-key authentication and an SSRF guard. They should be read as implementation claims from the article, not as an independent security audit. A fixed output format cannot replace authentication, input validation, safe handling of URLs, or suitable secret storage. Nor does a queue and task endpoint establish that a worker is fault-tolerant or that generated recommendations are safe to publish.

For readers assessing a similar system, keep separate questions separate:

  • Does the request include the necessary inputs?
  • Does the model return a parseable result with the expected keys?
  • Are the values useful, accurate, and appropriate for the specific business?
  • Are API access, secrets, and any URL fetching handled safely?
  • Does a person need to review the result before an external action?

A positive answer to one does not establish the others. In particular, successful task retrieval means the application has made a result available; it does not by itself certify the recommendations inside that result.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does returning valid JSON stop an LLM from hallucinating?

No. A schema can make missing fields and unexpected formatting easier to detect, but it cannot establish that a value is supported by evidence. Systems that need factual assurance still need checks suited to the content, such as human review or validation against authoritative data.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why might an API return HTTP 422 for an SEO task?

In the implementation described by Shivam Kumar, 422 is used when required task inputs are missing. It signals that the request did not meet the task’s input requirements; it is different from a worker completing a validly submitted task with an error.

Can an application change a JSON output schema later?

It can, but consumers may depend on existing key names and meanings. Treat schema changes as interface changes: plan how clients will transition and avoid silently repurposing a field that already has an established meaning.

Is the SEO Master Agent an autonomous Google Business Profile publisher?

No. The author describes its Google Business Profile workflow as generating draft copy for a person to publish. The same account says rank tracking is not currently a workflow.
