Steam wishlists can alert you when a game goes on sale, while price-history tools help you judge whether the current offer is low compared with prices they have recorded. Neither tells you that a deal is the game’s all-time low or predicts its next discount. Check the offer in your own Steam store region and compare it with a tracker’s stated coverage.
How Steam sales and wishlist alerts work
Steam discounts apply to individual store products, with publishers setting discounts under Valve’s published rules. Adding a game to your wishlist keeps it handy and can bring a sale to your attention: Steam says it can notify you by email or through its mobile app when a wishlisted game is on sale as a Daily Deal, Midweek Deal, or Weekend Deal. You can adjust or opt out of these notifications in your settings. Steam Wishlist Notifications and Steam Support describe the feature.

Valve’s Steamworks discounting documentation says a discount of 20% or greater can automatically trigger a wishlist notification. That threshold explains when an eligible discount can generate an alert; it does not guarantee that a game will be discounted, when it will happen, or that the price will be unusually low. Organize a wishlist and choose useful alerts
A wishlist can do more than hold an undifferentiated queue of games. Steam’s wishlist announcement describes custom categories, category-specific notification choices, improved search, sharing options, and notifications when demos become available. These features can help separate games you are likely to buy from titles you are merely tracking. Steam wishlist announcement

What price tracking can—and cannot—tell you
Keep three kinds of information separate: the price currently shown in your Steam store, the past prices a tracker has recorded, and a guess about a future sale. The first two are observations. A prediction about the next discount is uncertain.
SteamDB provides price-history charts and a browser extension that can surface recorded price information on Steam store pages. Its price-history page says daily records began on July 2, 2026. A low shown for a game is therefore a low within SteamDB’s observed window, not necessarily its all-time low. Check the tracker’s coverage before interpreting its “lowest” price. Price history is useful for context, not foresight. SteamDB says it does not know which particular games will be discounted in an upcoming sale or what their discount amounts will be. A chart cannot establish whether a game will be included next time or when the price will fall again. SteamDB price changes

How to judge a sale before buying
- Open the game’s store page and note the current price and discount in your own Steam region.
- Compare that price with a price-history chart, checking the dates the tracker covers and whether its low is limited to that window.
- Decide whether the current price is acceptable based on the observed history and how soon you want to play. Waiting may lead to another discount, but neither the timing nor size is predictable.
- Check the final checkout total. Steam Support says coupons and loyalty discounts generally do not stack with sale pricing unless Steam clearly says otherwise. Steam Support

| Steam wishlist | Email or mobile-app sale notifications for wishlisted games; settings include notification controls.
