There is no dependable timeline for a 24/7 YouTube stream to build a regular audience. YouTube defines a “regular viewer” by viewing history: someone who watched at least once per month for more than six months in the past year. That is a measurement definition—not a promise that a new stream will gain regular viewers within six months.
Track returning viewers and your rolling 28-day audience for nearer-term signs of progress. Treat the regular-viewer segment as a longer-horizon measure, and do not mistake continuous availability or a brief peak in live viewers for lasting loyalty.
What YouTube means by “regular viewers”
YouTube’s regular-viewer label describes a viewer who watched your channel at least once per month for more than six months in the past year. Because the definition looks back over a long period, it is not an early verdict on a new stream and does not establish how quickly a channel will attract that behavior.
YouTube does not publish a typical number of days or months for a 24/7 livestream to build a regular audience. The only relevant time span here—more than six months in the past year—is part of YouTube’s definition, not an average growth timeline or deadline.

Which audience metrics show progress sooner?

In YouTube Studio, review audience measures in Analytics and compare like-for-like time windows. Note when you change a stream’s topic, format, schedule, or promotion so you can interpret shifts in context. YouTube’s published guidance does not provide a validated formula for turning these metrics into a forecast of when a 24/7 stream will gain regular viewers.
What can encourage viewers to return?
YouTube recommends giving viewers a familiar reason to come back. Its guidance points to consistent topics or formats, community features, and consistent channel branding. Posts, comments, and live chat can help foster a community around the stream; YouTube also notes that consistent hosts or popular series are common among channels with growing casual and regular audiences. Trends still vary by channel and audience, so these are practices to try rather than guarantees.

YouTube says viewers who return regularly are more likely to be recommended more of that channel’s videos in the future. That is platform guidance about likelihood, not a guaranteed recommendation outcome or schedule. A stream being available around the clock does not, by itself, establish that viewers will return or that YouTube will recommend it.
