Home companion robots such as OKA’s Mori use cameras, microphones, touch and light sensors, and an on-device behavior system to notice people and changes around them. Mori does not speak back like a voice assistant. Instead, it expresses context through movement, sounds, illuminated eyes and cap, posture, and nature-inspired light. OKA calls its decision system Attentive Intelligence: it weighs what is familiar, what is new, and whether a response is appropriate. Mori is stationary and aimed at ambient companionship, guided breathing, and calming soundscapes—not household automation or open-ended conversation. Its documented privacy design keeps perception on the device, with a retractable head that can conceal the camera, although no independent privacy audit or recognition benchmark has been published.

What is Mori, and what is it designed to do?

Mori is a stationary, screen-free home companion robot from OKA (model ARTIFACT-01). Its purpose is to add an ambient presence to a room rather than to perform chores, move around the house, or act as a general conversational assistant. The robot combines sensing, small mechanical movements, light, and sound to create nonverbal interactions.

OKA’s launch announcement frames the product around returning attention to people instead of demanding more screen time. In practical use, Mori may turn toward someone entering, react to music, offer a changing soundscape, guide a breathing exercise, or stay quiet when an interruption appears unwelcome. Those are design and wellbeing experiences; they are not evidence of a medical treatment or a measured clinical benefit.

How does Mori know what is happening around me?

Mori builds a basic picture of its surroundings from several input types rather than relying on one sensor. Its camera and microphones provide visual and acoustic context, while touch-sensitive areas in the fabric body and a light sensor add direct information about contact and room brightness.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Camera and visual context

The camera lets Mori look around a room and notice visual context such as a person or a change in the scene. OKA says the robot can learn what is familiar and notice what is new or changing. The company has not published the camera’s resolution, field of view, frame rate, or a quantitative person-recognition score, so those specifications should not be inferred from the product’s expressive behavior.

Microphones and environmental sound

Microphones supply sound context. That can include a person’s voice, music, or a new noise in the room. Mori is therefore voice-aware, but it is not a talking assistant: the documented output is not spoken language. OKA says users can interact with Mori using touch and voice during Nature Time, while independent coverage describes microphones feeding the robot’s context models.

Touch and light sensing

The fabric body incorporates touch-sensitive inputs, allowing physical contact to become part of the interaction. A light sensor helps Mori account for ambient brightness, which is relevant to its lighting and day-part experiences. These inputs give it alternatives to camera-based perception: a touch can be intentional even when no face is visible, and a brightness change can occur without anyone speaking.

Movement, light, and audio as outputs

Mori’s head and other mechanisms can move, its eyes and cap can illuminate, and its speaker can produce sounds. A response might therefore involve turning, blinking, changing posture, lighting the cap, playing a sound, or doing nothing. The absence of a response is part of the design: the robot is intended to weigh whether an interruption is welcome instead of reacting to every input.

How does Attentive Intelligence decide how Mori should respond?

OKA uses the term Attentive Intelligence for the system that interprets Mori’s inputs and selects a response. The company describes a loop in which Mori looks around in a new room, learns what becomes familiar, notices novelty or change, and considers whether to react. Public materials describe the behavior and goals, but not the underlying model architecture, training data, or software implementation.

What V.I.B.E. means

Mori’s internal state is described as V.I.B.E.: Vitality, Interaction, Bonding, and Emotion. OKA says this state changes with time and experience. As a result, the same greeting can be more lively or more subdued depending on the context and the robot’s interaction history. V.I.B.E. is a product concept, not a published psychological or clinical measurement.

Why the same event can produce different reactions

A person entering a room, a burst of music, or a touch can be interpreted alongside recent interactions and the surrounding conditions. Mori may turn toward the person, respond with a sound or light, or remain still. That variability is intended to make the companion feel less like a fixed motion sensor and more like an ambient presence, but the company has not supplied a decision table that predicts every response.

Does Mori actually talk?

No. Mori is intentionally speech-free and does not answer in spoken words. Voice and environmental audio can still be inputs, especially during Nature Time, but the robot communicates through nonverbal signals.

Those signals include nature-inspired sounds, movement, illuminated eyes and cap, facial or eye expressions, and changes in posture. Calling Mori “voice-aware” is more accurate than calling it a voice chatbot: a microphone can help it understand context, while its reply is a soundscape or expressive action rather than a sentence.

This distinction matters when choosing a companion robot. Someone who wants calendar answers, dictation, smart-home commands, or a back-and-forth spoken conversation should not assume that Mori provides those functions. Its documented focus is ambient companionship and guided experiences.

Can Mori recognize family members and remember them?

OKA says Mori recognizes and remembers different people, responding differently to familiar faces and strangers. Repeated interaction is described as gradually making each unit unique: the robot learns, adapts, and remembers patterns associated with the people it encounters.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The public description does not identify the recognition model, enrollment procedure, number of people it can store, retention period, or a measured accuracy rate. Recognition should therefore be understood as a claimed personalization feature, not as a specification equivalent to a tested biometric system.

What can Mori do in everyday use?

Nature Time

Nature Time provides continuous nature-inspired soundscapes with soft light that changes through morning, afternoon, dusk, and night. OKA says users can interact with Mori by touch and voice during this experience. It is designed as an ambient activity rather than a spoken information service.

Guided breathing

Placing both hands on Mori’s base starts a breathing session intended to help the user reset. The robot supplies a paced, sensory cue through its light, sound, and expressive behavior. No clinical outcome statistic has been published, so the feature should be treated as a wellbeing aid rather than a substitute for medical or mental-health care.

Lamp mode

Double-tapping Mori’s head retracts the cap and reduces companion reactions, leaving it functioning mainly as a soft lamp. This mode is useful when you want illumination without the robot continuing its usual expressive behavior.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ambient companionship

Outside the named experiences, Mori can provide low-intensity reactions to its surroundings. Examples described by OKA include turning toward someone who enters, reacting to music, or staying still when an interruption seems unwelcome. These behaviors are intentionally open-ended; the product materials do not promise a fixed response for every sound, person, or room condition.

Is Mori listening to everything in my home?

Mori’s microphones and camera are sensing inputs, but OKA says perception is processed on-device. Digital Trends reports the company’s position that raw images and audio are processed locally and discarded, while facial-feature data used to recognize familiar people remains on the device.

The camera can be physically concealed when Mori’s head retracts. In that retracted state, the camera is off, according to the same coverage. Digital Trends also reports that microphones can be disabled by double-tapping the head. These are documented company claims; the available material does not include an independent privacy audit, penetration test, or security certification.

For a household decision, separate three questions: whether a sensor is active, where processing occurs, and what data is retained. Mori’s published position addresses all three at a high level—local perception, discarded raw images and audio, and on-device facial-feature data—but does not publish detailed retention schedules, encryption specifications, account controls, or a third-party assessment.

Does Mori need an internet connection?

OKA support says Mori can operate normally without an internet connection. Internet access is needed for some app-management features, so offline operation does not necessarily mean every setup or management function is available. The product supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Charging behavior is important because the robot is intended to remain in a room as an ambient device. OKA support says a full charge lasts roughly half an hour and recommends keeping Mori connected to its charger for long-term use. The official product page lists the following physical and power specifications:

Specification Published value Qualification
Maximum diameter 20.91 cm Official OKA product specification, 2026
Maximum height 29.8 cm Official OKA product specification, 2026
Weight 1.5–2.0 kg Official OKA product specification, 2026
Battery capacity 37.7 Wh Official OKA product specification, 2026
Time to reach 80% charge Up to 2.5 hours Official OKA product specification, 2026
Approximate runtime on a full charge About 30 minutes OKA support guidance; OKA recommends charger-connected use for long-term operation
Wireless connectivity Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Official OKA product specification, 2026

How is Mori different from a conversational or mobile robot?

The most useful comparison is by capability, not by appearance. Mori occupies the ambient, stationary end of the companion-robot spectrum.

Comparison axis Mori’s documented approach
Conversation Speech-free; voice can be an input, while responses are nonverbal sounds, movement, light, and expression
Mobility and tasks Stationary ambient companionship rather than navigation, household chores, or task execution
Perception Camera, microphones, touch-sensitive fabric inputs, and light sensing
Processing OKA says perception is processed on-device
Interaction Touch, voice during Nature Time, environmental sound, visual context, and ambient brightness
Wellbeing features Nature Time and a guided-breathing session
Power and connectivity 37.7 Wh battery, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with charger-connected use recommended for long-term operation

This positioning explains why Mori may appeal to someone who wants a calming object with adaptive reactions but disappoint someone shopping for a mobile helper or a spoken AI interface.

What are Mori’s main limitations and unknowns?

  • No spoken answers: Mori cannot replace a voice assistant for verbal questions or commands.
  • No documented household automation: The product description centers on ambient presence, sound, light, and expression rather than controlling appliances or completing chores.
  • Short stated battery runtime: OKA support’s roughly 30-minute full-charge estimate makes charger-connected placement the practical long-term arrangement.
  • Unpublished technical details: OKA has not publicly specified the model architecture, training data, camera details, recognition capacity, or recognition accuracy in the materials described here.
  • Privacy claims are not independently audited: Local processing and deletion of raw media are company positions, not results from a published third-party security review.
  • Wellbeing claims are limited: Guided breathing and Nature Time are product experiences; no clinical trial or audited outcome measure establishes a health effect.

How much does Mori cost, and when is it available?

OKA documented a $649 Founder Edition preorder price and a $799 standard preorder price in October 2026. These are preorder figures, not a guarantee of a later retail price. Availability, shipping regions, warranty terms, app requirements, and any subscription conditions should be confirmed with OKA for the buyer’s location before ordering.

  • What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.

As a physical product, Mori also requires a suitable powered location. A small table or shelf with room for its 29.8-centimeter maximum height and 20.91-centimeter maximum diameter is more practical than a crowded surface, and charger access matters if you intend to leave it running as an ambient companion.

Who is Mori best suited to?

Mori makes the most sense for someone who values screen-free, nonverbal interaction: changing soundscapes, soft light, expressive motion, and a robot that can become familiar with household members. It may also suit people who want a tactile breathing prompt or a lamp that can be made quieter through a dedicated mode.

It is a poor fit if your priority is spoken conversation, mobile room-to-room assistance, reliable task execution, or quantified health outcomes. The decision should also account for the short stated battery runtime and the fact that privacy and recognition performance are described by the manufacturer without independent audits or published benchmarks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Mori replace a smart speaker for questions and commands?

No. Mori’s documented interaction model is nonverbal, so it does not provide spoken answers or the usual question-and-command interface associated with a smart speaker. Its voice input is described in the context of Nature Time rather than general-purpose assistant functions.

Does Mori require a subscription?

The October 2026 preorder information lists hardware prices but does not state whether a subscription is required for any feature. Check the current order terms and app-management requirements for your region before purchase.

Is Mori’s face recognition accuracy independently tested?

No quantitative recognition benchmark is published in the available product material. The ability to recognize familiar people is an OKA-described feature, but buyers should not treat it as a certified biometric accuracy claim.

Does Mori have an independent privacy certification?

The documented privacy information describes on-device perception, retractable-camera behavior, and local handling of raw media, but it does not identify a third-party privacy certification or security audit. Ask OKA for current security documentation if that assurance is essential to your decision.
