Yonko is a position in the world of One Piece, not an official power score. Haki is one important part of how top fighters battle, but having a particular type of Haki—or holding the Yonko title—does not by itself settle who would win. The story gives readers examples to compare; it does not provide a definitive, universal ranking of every Emperor.
What does Yonko mean for strength?
“Yonko,” often translated as “Four Emperors,” is a story-world title associated with powerful pirates. It signals influence and standing, but it is not a measured tier with a published score. Official profiles and episode summaries describe abilities and particular fights rather than supplying a strongest-to-weakest chart of current and former Yonko.
That distinction matters: a title can indicate that a character is formidable without proving that every Yonko has equal combat ability or that one always beats another. The manga is ongoing, and membership can change, so claims about who currently holds the title should be checked against the latest chapters.
What are the three types of Haki?
Haki is commonly discussed in three forms: Observation, Armament, and Conqueror’s. They serve different purposes rather than functioning as three simple levels on a single ladder. Boa Hancock, for example, is described in an official feature as able to use all three types (ONE PIECE.com’s Boa Hancock feature).

| Type | Japanese name | What it does in the cited examples |
|---|---|---|
| Observation | Kenbunshoku | Heightened perception: sensing presence and, with development, anticipating an opponent’s next actions. |
| Armament | Busoshoku | Enables attacks to connect with Logia users whose bodies can otherwise evade ordinary physical blows, subject to specific weaknesses. |
| Conqueror’s | Haoshoku | A rare ability that can overwhelm ordinary opponents without contact; the story also shows it used in high-level attacks and clashes. |
These descriptions summarize functions shown in the official Episode 857 synopsis and Luffy character profile. They are not a complete combat formula: the sources do not say that any one type automatically makes its user invulnerable or unbeatable.
How Observation Haki works
Observation Haki heightens awareness. The official Episode 857 synopsis explains that a developed user can sense unseen enemies, perceive how many opponents are present, and anticipate their next movement. In the Luffy–Katakuri fight, Katakuri’s ability to read Luffy’s actions helps him avoid attacks.

Anticipation is not the same as an infallible prediction of everything that will happen. The cited scene presents a combat advantage, not a guarantee: what a fighter can perceive and how effectively they can respond matter in the circumstances of a fight.

Armament Haki has a direct practical use against Logia users. Their bodies can evade ordinary physical attacks, but Haki can let an opponent strike or seize them. The Episode 857 synopsis also notes that an individual weakness may provide another way to counter a Logia ability.

That role should not be overstated. The cited explanation establishes a way to make contact; it does not establish that Armament makes its user immune to damage or automatically superior to anyone without it.
How Conqueror’s Haki works—and what it does not prove
Conqueror’s Haki is described as an ability limited to selected people. Luffy’s official profile says it can defeat ordinary opponents without physical contact. That rarity makes it notable, but possession alone is not a complete measure of strength: it does not tell readers how a particular user performs across every matchup.

The story also depicts Conqueror’s Haki in major clashes. In the official synopsis for Episode 1028, Kaido attacks using it and Luffy meets the attack with his own. This is evidence that it matters in top-level combat, not proof that every Yonko uses it identically or that Haki alone decides every fight (ONE PIECE.com’s Episode 1028 synopsis).
How to compare Yonko and other top fighters
There is no official universal scorecard. A more defensible comparison separates the evidence into several axes instead of turning a title or a single scene into a definitive ranking:
Also popular on Amazon
- Haki: Which types has the character demonstrated, and how much control or combat use has actually been shown?
- Durability and endurance: What injuries or prolonged fights has the character endured in the story?
- Attack power and range: What can the character hit, and under what conditions?
- Other abilities: How do a Devil Fruit, weapon, or fighting style affect the matchup?
- Outcome and context: Were allies involved? Was someone injured? Did the fighters have the same objective?
These are useful reader-facing criteria, not an official ranking rubric. A fight is not a controlled test: different abilities and circumstances can shape its outcome, so one victory or exchange should not be treated as an absolute statistic for every possible matchup.

For the surrounding Kaido conflict, ONE PIECE.com’s Volume 100 listing gives the subtitle “覇王色,” a publication date of September 3, 2021, and a synopsis tied to the Wano story. It is a source for the story context, not a comprehensive Haki reference. VIZ’s official One Piece catalog lists licensed chapters and volume purchase links; access varies by location and chapter.
