Hisense 58H6550E: At First Glance

Over the years, Hisense has created a name for itself in the TV world as a manufacturer of budget-friendly TVs. Moreover, despite most of their televisions being inexpensive, they offer amazing features.

Therefore, in 2018, Hisense released the Hisense 58H6550E as a means of adding to its 4K TV collection. This Hisense television features a 4K display that offers a great contrast ratio but poor viewing angles.

Moreover, due to the fact that it is a smart television, the Hisense 58H6550E comes with a smart TV operating system (Andriod OS).

Now that I have discussed a few things about this Hisense television, let us learn more about it in the other sections below.

Hisense 58H6550E: Design, Dimension, and Weight

The design of the Hisense 58H6550E is very similar to that of its predecessor, the Hisense H6500. For example, just like its predecessor, the Hisense 58H6550E features thin bezels.

Also, like its predecessor, these bezels are made of plastic and have a black finish. Moreover, at the center of the bottom bezel, you will find a “Hisense” logo.

That said, if not wall-mounted, the Hisense 58H6550E stands on top of a pair of V-shaped legs. Like the bezels, these legs are made of plastic and feature a black finish.

Despite their plastic build, these legs are quite sturdy and they support the Hisense 58H6550E pretty well. Notwithstanding, if pushed with force, the television will wobble.

Moving to the back of the Hisense 58H6550E, you will discover a plastic panel. This back panel features four VESA-compatible holes for wall-mounting the television.

Unfortunately, you won’t find any form of cable management on this TV’s back panel. To make matters worse, the back panel is fairly thick.

Thus, whenever you mount the Hisense 58H6550E on the wall, it will bulge out and look awkward.

Having said all that, let us have a quick discussion about the dimension and weight of the Hisense 58H6550E. To start with, the Hisense 58H6550E measures 1300.4 x 73.6 x 764.5 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 15013.9 g.

Comparatively, this Hisense television is about 5000 g lighter than the Samsung UN58RU7100FXZA. To be more specific, the Samsung UN58RU7100FXZA measures 1300.4 x 58.4 x 756.9 mm ( W x D x H) and weighs 20184.8 g.

In conclusion, the Hisense 58H6550E comes with a decent design with slim bezels. However, the back of this television is somewhat thick which will make it bulge out of the wall if wall-mounted.

Nevertheless, the TV weighs less than one of its closest competitors. Hence, in this design review section, I will be rating the Hisense 58H6550E an eight out of ten.

Hisense 58H6550E: Display Features

The Hisense 58H6550E is quite decent when it comes to its display performance. To give more details, this television features a 58-inch LED display that offers a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution.

Thanks to this 4K resolution, this television’s 58-inch display should be able to deliver crisp and realistic pictures. Besides, as a 4K display, the Hisense 58H6550E’s display is about 4 times better than the standard HD resolution display.

Just like most television nowadays, the Hisense 58H6550E’s display comes with an aspect ratio of 16:9. For those who don’t know, an aspect ratio of a display is the ratio between the width and height of the display.

Moving on, the Hisense 58H6550E’s display is made with a VA panel. Therefore, like other VA displays, this display should offer an outstanding contrast ratio.

Well, that is exactly what this display delivers – an outstanding contrast ratio. To be more specific, this TV display comes with a contrast ratio of 5,820:1.

What do I mean by contrast ratio, though? A display’s contrast ratio simply means the ratio between the brightest whites and the deepest black that the display can render.

Moreover, because it features an outstanding contrast ratio, the Hisense 58H6550E’s display should be able to render deep blacks. Therefore, the Hisense 58H6550E is ideal for dark room viewing.

Other than dark room viewing, this television is also ideal for watching movies with lots of dark and shadowy scenes.

Regrettably, like most VA displays, the Hisense 58H6550E’s display offers poor viewing angles. Thus, viewing the Hisense 58H6550E off-center or from the side isn’t a great choice.

This is because the picture quality and color accuracy will reduce seriously when viewing the Hisense 58H6550E from the side. Thus, the Hisense 58H6550E isn’t particularly the best television for a large room.

In addition to its poor viewing angles, this television’s display isn’t bright enough. To give more details, the display comes with a maximum brightness of 232 nits.

The most disappointing thing about this display’s brightness is that even some laptops’ displays offer better maximum brightness. Well, the consequence of the poor display brightness is that the Hisense 58H6550E might not be suitable for use in well-lit areas.

On a positive note, the Hisense 58H6550E’s display supports HDR. In case you don’t know, HDR is a picture technology that allows a display to deliver a wider range of color and contrast.

Therefore, when watching HDR-compatible content on the Hisense 58H6550E, the picture quality will be very realistic. For your information, HDR content can be found on streaming apps such as Netflix.

For those that care to know, the full meaning of HDR is High Dynamic Range.

Moving on, thanks to its display’s 60Hz refresh rate and 12.8 milliseconds response time, the Hisense 58H6550E is ideal for viewing fast-motion content. However, it is not exceptional.

For clarity, refresh rate is the amount of time that a display refreshes/draws new images every second. For example, the Hisense 58H6550E’s display’s 60Hz refresh rate means that it refreshes 60 times per second.

Response time, on the other hand, is the amount of time that it takes a display to transition from one color to another.

That said, the Hisense 58H6550E’s display comes with a low input lag of 9.3 milliseconds. Thanks to its display’s low input lag, the Hisense 58H6550E is an ideal television for gamers.

For clarity, input lag is the amount of time that is required for a display to register a signal input. Moreover, the suitable input lag for an ideal gaming experience is 10 milliseconds or less.

Well, as you can see above, the Hisense 58H6550E’s display’s input lag is less than 10 milliseconds. Thus, it is quite suitable for playing video games.

In conclusion, thanks to its VA panel, the Hisense 58H6550E’s display offer a great contrast ratio for delivering decent picture quality. However, the television has poor viewing angles, which is also due to its VA panel.

Besides, this television isn’t bright enough. Therefore, I will be rating the Hisense 58H6550E a seven out of ten in this display features review section.

Hisense 58H6550E: Sound Features

When it comes to sound production and features, Hisense televisions have always been considered one of the best. Thankfully, the Hisense 58H6550E isn’t an exception as it features a pair of 10-watt speakers that offer great sound quality.

Furthermore, these speakers are capable of producing fairly loud sounds. Thus, the speakers should be able to fill a large room with sound.

In addition to its loud sound production, the Hisense 58H6550E’s speakers offer clear and understandable dialogue sound. Dialogue sound is the sound produced by two individuals conversing in a TV show or movie.

On the downside, the Hisense 58H6550E isn’t capable to delivers enough bass, and thumping and rumbling sound. The reason behind this is that this television lacks a subwoofer.

Therefore, if you are a person who loves bass-heavy movies or music, it is recommended that you purchase a subwoofer with the Hisense 58H6550E.

On a positive note, the distortion performance of the Hisense 58H6550E is pretty decent. To give more details, at a moderate volume level – somewhere around 75% or less – distortion is absent on this television.

However, when the television is set to the maximum volume level, distortion might be a bit audible. Nevertheless, that depends on the type of movie you are watching and not everyone may be able to hear the distortion.

All things considered, I will be rating the Hisense 58H6550E an eight out of ten in this sound feature review.

Hisense 58H6550E: Ports and Connectivity Features

The Hisense 58H6550E comes with all the ports every user will need. However, like most Hisense televisions, the ports are all located on the back of the Hisense 58H6550E.

As a result, users won’t be able to access these ports easily if the television is mounted on the wall. Nonetheless, I totally believe that the number of ports that this television feature makes up for this flaw.

Speaking of ports, the Hisense 58H6550E comes with two HDMI 2.0 ports and a single HDMI 1.4 port. In addition to these HDMI ports, this television comes with one USB 3.0 port as well as one USB 2.0 port.

Furthermore, the television features an RF port for connecting an antenna. Also, there is an Ethernet port, one composite video input, digital optical audio out, and a headphone jack on this television.

For wireless connectivity, on the other hand, the Hisense 58H6550E comes with a built-in 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WIFI. Also, this television features Bluetooth.

Having mentioned all the television’s ports, now let us discuss its remote control. The Hisense 58H6550E comes with a Hisense voice remote control.

This remote comes with a matte-black finish and it is made of plastic. However, despite its long height, the remote control lacks a full number pad.

Instead, this remote comes with dedicated buttons for quick access to six streaming services. These streaming services include YouTube, Google Play, Netflix, Sling TV, Now TV, and TikiLIVE.

Moreover, on the Hisense 58H6550E’s remote, you will find a box-shaped navigation button. Also, as a voice remote, this remote control features an in-built microphone for voice input.

Also, because the television supports Google Assistant, there is a Google Assistant button on the remote. Therefore, for voice input, you just need to hold down this Google Assistant button and speak into the in-built microphone.

In summary, the Hisense 58H6550E offers an impressive port selection and a voice remote control. However, the television’s ports aren’t accessible easily because they are all of the TV’s back.

All in all, I will rate the Hisense 58H6550E an eight out of ten in this port and connectivity feature review section.

Hisense 58H6550E: Smart Features

Like most Hisense television, the Hisense 58H6550E comes with Android OS. In my opinion, Android OS is the best-operating system ever when compared to other operating systems like Roku OS or Tizen OS.

This is because the Andriod operating system offers a smooth, user-friendly, and lag-free interface. Besides, Andriod OS gives you access to major streaming services that are available on the Google Play Store.

Some of the major streaming services that you’ll find on Andriod OS include Netflix, YouTube, and the expected Google Play Movies. Moreover, just in case you need more streaming services, you can simply download more from the Google Play Store.

Impressively, the Hisense 58H6550E comes with a built-in Chromecast. Therefore, with the help of this Chromecast, users will be able to “cast” content from their mobile devices to the television.

In conclusion, the Hisense 58H6550E as a smart TV offers the almighty Android operating system that has one of the best user interfaces. Furthermore, this operating system allows the television to have access to a lot of streaming services and apps.

Therefore, I will be rating the Hisense 58H6550E a nine out of ten in this smart feature review.
