How long does the Healthy Choice SK200 take to boil?
In CHOICE’s published test, the SK200 took more than nine minutes to boil one litre and received a 20% Boil Performance score. That is the most important performance warning for anyone who expects a quick morning kettle. The figure is a result for CHOICE’s test conditions and a one-litre volume, not a guarantee that every cycle, fill level or household power supply will produce exactly the same time.

The 800W rating is the context for the result. The manual lists power settings from 50W to 800W, and its power mode asks users to reduce the volume to 1L. A lower-power setting or a larger fill will not improve speed. If you regularly need a full jug quickly, the SK200’s main advantage is not rapid boiling; it is the ability to select a target temperature and keep water warm.
Heating time will also vary with starting-water temperature, altitude, the amount filled and the electrical supply. Those variables do not erase CHOICE’s result: compared with a conventional fast-boiling kettle, the test indicates that the SK200 can be conspicuously slow. Treat the nine-minute-plus result as a planning figure when deciding whether its tea controls justify waiting.
Does the SK200 switch off when lifted from its base?
CHOICE reported that the kettle did not switch off when it was lifted from its base during its test. In the same evaluation, an empty-kettle dry-boil cycle continued until the water-temperature control reached 100°C; CHOICE said the unit remained undamaged in that test. These are bounded observations from CHOICE’s test, not proof that every SK200 will behave identically or that every use is unsafe.

Even so, the finding changes how the kettle should be supervised. Do not assume that removing the jug interrupts heating, and do not leave it running unattended merely because a detachable base is present. The manual also says not to move the kettle while it is switched on. If you lift it during a cycle, check the display and controls rather than relying on an automatic lift-off cutout.
The manual’s physical warnings matter here. It says the glass jug, handle and lid become very hot. CHOICE specifically found the metallic lid too hot to remove immediately after boiling. Use the handle, keep hands away from the lid and steam path, and allow the infuser and lid to cool before handling them.
What temperature settings and modes does the SK200 have?

The manual’s detailed mode timings differ in places from brief retailer summaries. For a particular delay or keep-warm duration, follow the manual’s instructions for your control panel. Do not combine a retailer’s headline duration with a different mode and assume they are interchangeable.

Yes. The included detachable infuser is the reason to choose the SK200 over a simple glass kettle: you can place loose tea in the infuser, heat water to a selected temperature and steep in the jug. The sources do not provide a measured extraction comparison or a guaranteed steeping time, so use the tea maker’s own instructions for leaf quantity and steep duration.
Preparing the infuser
- Remove the lid and fit the detachable infuser according to the manual’s orientation.
- Put loose-leaf tea into the infuser without exceeding its available space; leaves need room to expand.
- Fill the jug with cold water between 300ml and 1.2L. The manual says the kettle is for boiling water only, not soup, milk or other liquids.
- Replace the lid, set the desired temperature or thermostat value, and start the heating cycle.
- When the cycle ends, wait before touching the metal lid or lifting the infuser because CHOICE found the lid too hot to remove immediately after boiling.
The infuser adds a cleaning task and can make the jug awkward to empty while hot. Hold the handle, keep your face and hands away from steam, and let the glass and accessory cool before rinsing. The manual excerpt does not establish a special descaling formula; use the complete manual’s care instructions rather than assuming that any household cleaner is suitable for the glass, seals or heating base.
How should I set up and operate the SK200?
The first-use and filling rules are straightforward, but following them is especially important given the lift-off and dry-boil observations.
- Inspect the parts. Confirm that the glass jug, lid, base and infuser are present and undamaged. Place the base on a stable, dry surface close enough to the outlet that the cord will not pull the kettle.
- Rinse and boil fresh water twice. The manual tells first-time users to fill the kettle with fresh water and boil it at least twice before making a drink. Discard those cycles.
- Use cold water only. Fill between 300ml and 1.2L. Do not exceed the stated capacity, even if a level mark appears higher.
- Choose the mode. Select one of the 80°C–100°C settings, use thermostat mode for 40°C–100°C adjustment, or select power, delay or keep-warm as required. In power mode, keep the volume at or below 1L as the manual directs.
- Start with the lid fitted. Keep the kettle on its base while operating and do not move it while switched on.
- Allow for the display delay. CHOICE says the control display gives no immediate indication at startup and takes about five seconds before showing that heating has begun. Do not repeatedly press buttons during that interval.
- Handle the finished cycle cautiously. Steam, the glass, handle and lid can be hot. Lift by the handle only when necessary, and do not remove the lid immediately after boiling.
Because the CHOICE test did not find a reliable lift-off shutoff, remain present during heating and verify that the cycle has ended before pouring. A keep-warm or delayed cycle should not be treated as permission to leave the appliance in a place where children, pets or a trailing cord could disturb it.
Are the water-level markings and capacity clear?
The transparent body has level markings across the jug, which is useful when measuring a small tea batch. CHOICE notes, however, that the markings include 1.5L even though the stated capacity is 1.2L. That apparent inconsistency is a reason to use the manual’s 1.2L maximum and the 300ml minimum rather than filling to the highest printed number.

For repeatable tea making, measure the volume you need before filling and leave headroom for the infuser and boiling movement. The glass makes the water level easy to see, but visibility does not change the maximum safe fill. If the printed scale on your particular jug differs from the manual, photograph it and ask the retailer or manufacturer to confirm the model before relying on it.
How hot is the SK200 to handle after boiling?
