The Haier HRF565YHS is a large four-door French-door refrigerator-freezer with a tank-fed water dispenser, frost-free freezer and flexible storage. It is a sensible choice when you need substantial family capacity without connecting a water line. The compromises are its middling three-star energy rating, manual twist ice maker, very large installation footprint and discontinued status. Public information confirms the specifications and a 2022 CHOICE test listing, but CHOICE’s detailed temperature, noise, reliability and satisfaction results are restricted to members, so this review does not invent an overall performance score.
Is the Haier HRF565YHS any good?
It is good for households that value a wide, four-door layout, chilled water without plumbing and frost-free frozen storage more than the newest energy rating or automatic ice production. The refrigerator was sold in Australia and New Zealand as part of Haier’s Satina range, and CHOICE lists it as a French-door model tested in 2022. The model is now marked discontinued by CHOICE, so the buying decision depends as much on remaining stock and after-sales support as on the specification.
The strongest practical feature is the non-plumbed dispenser: you fill an internal tank instead of arranging a water connection. Storage is divided across a large refrigerator section and two freezer drawers, while humidity-oriented produce bins and adjustable shelving help with everyday organization. The main drawbacks are the three-star energy label, a manual rather than automatic ice maker, the space needed to deliver and open the cabinet, and uncertainty about current availability.

How much can the HRF565YHS hold?
Published capacity figures differ because Haier and CHOICE use different measurement conventions and, in one case, a different regional specification set. The Australian quick-reference guide dated 27 January 2022 gives 565 litres gross capacity and 519 litres of stated volume. CHOICE’s listing, consistent with a Haier 2021 guide for the same model family, reports 565 litres claimed total split into 358 litres of refrigerator space and 207 litres of freezer space.

For planning purposes, use the 519-litre figure as the Australian guide’s stated usable-style volume and regard 565 litres as the gross claim. If a retailer quotes 358 litres of fridge and 207 litres of freezer, it is using the other published split, not describing a different cabinet. Ask the seller which regional sheet is supplied with the unit before comparing it directly with another refrigerator.
What the layout means in practice
- The French-door refrigerator compartment puts frequently used food at eye level and avoids a single full-width door swing.
- Two lower freezer compartments make it possible to separate categories, but each drawer opening needs clear floor space in front of the cabinet.
- Two adjustable glass shelves and six door shelves provide configurable storage for bottles, jars and tall containers.
- Humidity-controlled crisper bins are intended to reduce moisture loss from fruit and vegetables; Haier describes the bin as helping retain moisture, nutrition and flavour.
What are the HRF565YHS dimensions and installation clearances?
Haier’s Australian product dimensions are 1,804 mm high, 833 mm wide and 716 mm deep. Those are cabinet dimensions, not the space required for doors, ventilation, handles, packaging or delivery manoeuvring. CHOICE recommends allowing approximately 1,860 mm height, 940 mm width and 770 mm depth for installation.

Measure before ordering or accepting delivery
- Measure the narrowest part of the route from the vehicle drop-off point to the kitchen, including gates, turns and lift doors.
- Measure the refrigerator recess at floor, bench and ceiling height; walls and skirting can make the opening narrower than it appears.
- Mark the door and freezer-drawer swing on the floor with tape. Confirm that adjacent cabinets do not block a drawer from opening far enough to remove baskets.
- Leave room around the cabinet for the clearances specified by the installation instructions and for air circulation. Do not treat the 833 mm cabinet width as the complete installation width.
- Confirm the delivery team’s requirements for an upright appliance. The service specification lists a 100 kg net weight, so use suitable equipment and protect flooring.
Does the water dispenser need plumbing?
No. The HRF565YHS uses a non-plumbed internal tank, so it does not require a dedicated water inlet. Haier’s guide calls it “Cold water on tap” and specifies a non-plumbed dispenser; an Andoo listing identifies the tank capacity as 1.8 litres.
Fill the tank manually with drinking water and allow the refrigerator to chill it. Because the tank is finite, heavy use means refilling it, unlike a plumbed dispenser. The supplied specifications do not establish whether the tank is dishwasher-safe or how often its parts should be sanitised, so follow the model’s care instructions rather than applying assumptions from another refrigerator.

What ice maker does it use?
Ice production is manual. Haier lists a manual twist ice maker rather than an automatic plumbed or self-filling system. You add water to the ice tray, wait for it to freeze and twist the tray to release cubes; this is simple and avoids an additional water connection, but it requires regular intervention and does not provide a measured daily ice supply.

The HRF565YHS combines basic electronic controls with storage features aimed at a large family refrigerator. The feature set documented by Haier includes:

How energy-hungry and noisy is it?
The refrigerator carries a three-star energy label. CHOICE records claimed consumption of 490 kWh per year in its 2022 listing, while a Haier service-manual specification table gives 480 kWh per year. These are label or specification figures, not a guarantee of the electricity used in your kitchen; ambient temperature, loading, door opening and temperature settings affect actual consumption.

To estimate running cost, multiply the applicable kWh figure by your electricity tariff; a tariff is not provided here, so quoting a dollar amount would be misleading. A three-star label is neither a failure nor a high-performance result by current standards: compare the annual kWh and star rating with newer models of similar usable capacity, not with compact refrigerators.

What is known about noise?
Public CHOICE information confirms that a noise result exists, but the measured value is behind its member access. There is therefore no defensible decibel rating or “quiet” verdict to publish. If low noise matters, listen to a display unit or ask the retailer for a documented acoustic specification, and remember that compressor cycling and fan noise vary with room temperature and installation.
What are the warranty and service specifications?
Haier’s 27 January 2022 guide documents two years of parts and labour, plus an additional 10 years covering compressor parts. The wording is a manufacturer statement for that guide and region; confirm the warranty card, purchase date requirements, exclusions and whether coverage transfers when buying clearance or second-hand stock.
The service-manual table identifies R600a refrigerant with a 60 g charge, electronic LED control, automatic defrost and a 100 kg net weight. R600a is flammable refrigerant, so repairs involving the sealed system should be performed by qualified technicians using the procedures specified for this appliance. Do not puncture refrigerant tubing or attempt a compressor repair yourself.
Can you still buy a Haier HRF565YHS?
CHOICE currently labels the HRF565YHS discontinued. That does not prove that every unit has disappeared: retailer clearance pages can retain new, returned or refurbished stock. Andoo has listed it as a 519-litre family refrigerator with a 1.8-litre tank, 10 A plug and lead and China as the country of origin, but listing status, price and customer-review counts can change.
The $1,558 figure shown by CHOICE is a historical 2022 listed price, not a current market price. Before paying, obtain written confirmation of stock condition, model number, manufacturing date, delivery damage policy, warranty documentation and who will handle service. A low clearance price is less attractive if replacement shelves, drawers or electronic boards are difficult to source.

- Photograph the model and serial labels and confirm that the label says HRF565YHS, not a visually similar family model.

The dispenser does not deliver water

The freezer appears to frost up
The freezer is specified as frost-free, but a door left ajar, damaged gasket or blocked air path can allow excessive ice. Check that drawers close completely and seals contact the cabinet; persistent heavy frost warrants a technician rather than repeated manual scraping.
The refrigerator seems warmer after loading

Some compressor and fan cycling is normal, especially after installation or a large load. Verify that the cabinet is level and not touching surrounding cabinetry. Because CHOICE’s measured noise result is not public, use a technician or retailer assessment if the sound is persistent, metallic or accompanied by poor cooling.

What is the final buying verdict?
The HRF565YHS remains a capable large-format refrigerator when its specific strengths match your kitchen: generous four-door storage, tank-fed chilled water, frost-free freezing and produce-focused drawers without plumbing work. Its three-star efficiency, manual ice maker, substantial clearance requirements and discontinued status make it a conditional purchase rather than an automatic recommendation.
