Short answer: If you already have a PC that can encode your intended stream reliably, OBS can be the lower-cost route—but the computer, power and internet connection must remain available, and you must handle monitoring and recovery. Gyre runs pre-recorded video from its cloud after you upload it, avoiding a dedicated PC running at home but adding a recurring subscription and storage limits. If you want a managed cloud option, StreamNeo is another alternative: one always-on YouTube stream per slot, any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price, with the first day free. The right choice depends on whether your scarce resource is money, dependable home power and internet, or your time.

What this comparison means for an India-based creator

OBS Studio and Gyre solve the same broad problem in different ways. OBS is software you run on your own computer: it encodes and sends the stream to YouTube. Gyre is a cloud service for streaming uploaded, pre-recorded files continuously; the stream is sent from its servers, so your PC need not stay on. Neither approach makes a 24/7 broadcast automatically uninterrupted. Power, connectivity, software, platform conditions and recovery all matter.

For India, compare the full cost and practical burden rather than treating “low-cost PC” as a specific hardware class. If you already own a suitable machine and can keep it connected, OBS may avoid a new hardware purchase. If you would buy a computer solely to run a prerecorded stream, include its purchase cost and electricity alongside Gyre’s current subscription, file storage, currency conversion and applicable taxes. A managed option such as StreamNeo is also worth comparing when avoiding a home machine and its upkeep matters more than operating the stream yourself.

At a glance: OBS, Gyre and StreamNeo

Option Where the stream runs What you supply Cost pattern Best fit
StreamNeo Cloud service; streams uploaded videos to YouTube Uploaded recording or playlist, YouTube stream key and an active slot Per-slot billing by chosen duration; first day free with no card Creators who want an always-on cloud stream without keeping a computer at home, with uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot
OBS Studio Your own computer A capable PC, power, stable upload, OBS configuration and monitoring Uses your existing equipment and operating resources; a new PC adds purchase and running costs Creators who already have suitable hardware and want local control over scenes and production
Gyre Gyre’s cloud service Pre-recorded files uploaded to Gyre storage and a paid plan after its trial Subscription; displayed monthly plans and capacities can change Creators who want cloud delivery of uploaded pre-recorded videos and whose stream and storage needs fit a plan

StreamNeo’s plans include one always-on YouTube stream per slot, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. How to choose between running OBS locally and using Gyre

Choose OBS if you already have a suitable PC and can maintain it

OBS is a sensible first test when buying additional hardware is unnecessary and you can keep the machine powered, online and available for checks. It also gives you local control over scenes and production. Its cost is not necessarily zero: the PC draws power, and any incremental internet, backup-power or replacement-hardware expense belongs in your calculation. A local stream also depends on your home connection and power for its duration.

Do not choose a machine based only on a CPU name or the fact that it meets OBS’s basic system requirements. OBS Project’s System Requirements documentation, dated 2021-08-25, warns that compatible hardware does not guarantee the ability to stream or record. Encoding demands depend on the encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. Check current operating-system support and test the exact stream profile on the specific machine.

Choose Gyre if cloud delivery suits your files and plan needs

Gyre is built for continuous streaming of pre-recorded files uploaded to its storage. That removes the need to leave a dedicated home PC running for the broadcast, but you still need internet access to upload files and manage the service. Check how many simultaneous streams, what resolution and frame rate, and how much storage the current plan permits; those limits vary by tier. A cloud service is not a promise of uninterrupted operation, so check YouTube stream health and understand how you would respond to a disruption.

OBS: check your PC, network and YouTube settings

Check eligibility and prepare a test

  1. Confirm livestream access in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s livestream eligibility guidance says a verified channel must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time encoder activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance, so enable access and allow time before a planned launch.
  2. Check the actual PC workload. OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard can help find appropriate settings, but it is a starting point, not proof of reliability. OBS names NVIDIA NVENC, AMD AMF and Intel Quick Sync Video as hardware-encoding options. Its Hardware Encoding documentation, dated 2022-01-11, generally recommends hardware encoders to move work off the CPU; encoder generations can differ in image quality at the same bitrate.
  3. Test the intended resolution, frame rate and scenes. Run the actual content and scene setup you plan to broadcast, and watch for encoding overload, dropped frames, excessive heat or instability. Basic compatibility alone does not establish sustained 24/7 capability.

Use YouTube’s ingest settings as the baseline

YouTube’s current Live settings guidance recommends H.264, H.265 (HEVC) or AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. It recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery. Use the settings that match the selected encoder and confirm the active stream in YouTube Live Control Room.

H.264 output profile YouTube minimum bitrate YouTube recommended bitrate
720p at 30 fps 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 5 Mbps 14 Mbps

These are YouTube’s stated figures for the listed H.264 profiles; they are not a guarantee that a PC or connection will sustain a stream. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. Measure upload capacity under realistic conditions and avoid setting the stream bitrate so close to the available upload rate that ordinary variation leaves no margin. YouTube transcodes streams for different viewer devices and network conditions.

Keep the stream key private and monitor the broadcast

In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the stream and use the stream key and ingest settings shown there in OBS. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it, and reset it if it is exposed. Start with a private or unlisted test where appropriate, confirm YouTube receives the signal, then review stream health before relying on a public continuous broadcast. Keep a practical plan for restarting OBS and restoring the stream if the PC, power or connection fails.

Gyre: upload workflow, trial and displayed plan limits

  1. Enable YouTube live streaming and prepare the channel. Confirm the channel can go live and that the account authorization and monetization settings you need are active. Vendor-described API and authorization workflows can change, so verify the current requirements in YouTube Studio and Gyre’s live instructions.
  2. Upload the prerecorded files. Gyre’s help documentation says files must be uploaded to Gyre storage. Upload time depends on file size and your connection; allow time to complete transfers before scheduling or starting a continuous stream.
  3. Check file and plan compatibility. Gyre’s help material gives a 1080p/720p H.264 preparation example. Follow its current converter or preparation guidance, then verify the actual ingest settings in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm that the plan’s stream count and storage cover your use.
  4. Start a test and monitor stream health. Confirm that YouTube receives the stream and that playback is stable before depending on a 24/7 schedule. Keep a recovery plan for service, platform or connectivity disruptions.

Gyre’s official pricing page displayed the following monthly prices and plan allowances when checked in 2026. These commercial terms can change; prices shown in dollars do not establish an India total after taxes or exchange-rate effects. Confirm current billing, capacities and availability before purchase.

Gyre plan shown in 2026 Displayed monthly price Displayed stream allowance Displayed storage

PRO+ $169/month Eight Full HD streams or two 4K streams 150 GB

Calculate the India cost instead of guessing

There is no reliable India-wide electricity figure for a “low-cost PC”: actual consumption depends on the specific computer and workload, and the applicable tariff depends on location and billing. Measure the PC’s average draw during the intended stream and use your own rate per kilowatt-hour.

Monthly PC electricity estimate: measured average watts ÷ 1,000 × 24 × 30 × your local electricity rate per kWh. This assumes continuous operation for 30 days. Add the amortized purchase cost if you are buying a machine for streaming. Add internet only if the stream creates incremental expense, and include backup-power costs if relevant. A UPS can help with a local power interruption but cannot restore an ISP outage; size it for the measured PC-and-router load and the runtime you need.

Compare that figure with Gyre’s current subscription and the storage and stream limits you need, including any taxes, currency conversion and upload or management costs. For StreamNeo, each slot includes pooled storage of 10 GB per slot across active slots, one stream, looping and playlists, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream; all quality up to 4K 60fps is included at the same per-slot rate. Copyright, reused content and monetization

A technically stable stream is not automatically permitted content or eligible for monetization. Make sure you have the rights to every recording, song, image and other element in the broadcast, and check YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules for your channel and content. Replaying material continuously does not change who owns it or whether you are authorized to use it. A claim or restriction can affect the stream independently of whether OBS or a cloud service is sending it.

Troubleshooting the common failure points

Symptom Likely cause What to check or do
YouTube is not receiving the OBS stream Incorrect stream key, server setting, channel eligibility or ingest configuration Verify the current key and ingest instructions in Live Control Room, confirm livestream access, and restart a short test.
OBS reports encoding overload or the PC becomes unstable Encoding workload exceeds what the machine can sustain at the chosen resolution, frame rate or scene complexity Reduce output demands or scene complexity, try a supported hardware encoder, and test again for an extended period. Do not infer suitability from basic system requirements.
Stream health shows dropped frames or disconnects Insufficient or fluctuating upload bandwidth, local network trouble, or an ISP disruption Check upload capacity during the stream, use a wired connection where practical, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and have a reconnection plan. YouTube warns that a connectivity disruption can break a stream.
Gyre cannot use a file or storage fills up File preparation mismatch or the selected plan’s storage limit Check Gyre’s current file instructions, confirm the plan allowance, and remove or replace files only after checking what the active stream uses.
A continuous stream stops during a power or internet failure The local OBS path depends on home power and connectivity; cloud delivery does not eliminate platform or service interruptions For OBS, arrange monitoring and a restart procedure; a UPS may cover a brief power loss but not an ISP outage. For any route, check YouTube stream health and the provider’s current recovery behavior.
A stream is blocked, claimed or not monetized Copyright, channel eligibility or monetization requirements rather than an encoding problem Review the relevant YouTube Studio notice and current policy requirements, and use content you are authorized to stream.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo’s process is three steps: upload your recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. Nothing needs to stay on at home; uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps costs the same per slot, and automatic recovery is available if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams of uploaded videos, not live camera feeds. Start your free StreamNeo day.
