GTA 6’s Vice City is a fictionalized, modern Miami inside the wider Florida-inspired state of Leonida. The clearest real-world echoes are South Beach and Ocean Drive, Lummus Park’s Art Deco strip, Miami’s downtown and Brickell-style towers, the Venetian and MacArthur causeways, PortMiami, Miami International Airport, Wynwood, Cuban-influenced neighborhoods, the Florida Keys and the Everglades. Rockstar has not published a street-by-street key matching every fictional location to Miami, so these should be treated as inspirations and counterparts rather than a block-for-block recreation.
Is GTA 6’s Vice City based on Miami?
Yes. Vice City is Rockstar’s fictional version of contemporary Miami, but it is only one part of Leonida, the game’s broader Florida-inspired setting. The city combines recognizable South Florida architecture, geography and culture, then compresses and rearranges them to create a playable open world.
That distinction matters. A building that resembles a Miami landmark may be moved, merged with another structure or given a fictional name. Rockstar’s official material confirms the fictional place names and the Florida setting; comparisons between those places and specific Miami streets generally come from trailer analysis, local reporting and expert observation.

Which Miami Beach locations inspired Vice City?
South Beach, Ocean Drive, Lummus Park and Miami’s Art Deco hotel district are the strongest concrete comparisons. Trailer analyses by Axios Miami and CBS Miami identified the low-rise pastel façades, balconies, signage and dense beachfront streetscape associated with Miami Beach.
South Beach and Ocean Drive
Ocean Drive’s visual identity comes from its concentration of Art Deco, Streamline Moderne and Mediterranean Revival buildings facing the beach and Lummus Park. In Vice City, the equivalent area uses the same broad ingredients: a narrow urban strip, hotels and restaurants close to the sand, bright façades, palms, nightlife imagery and heavy pedestrian activity.
The comparison is architectural rather than a claim that every Ocean Drive address appears in the game. Buildings may have different names, heights or positions, while still borrowing the proportions and decorative language that make South Beach immediately recognizable.
Lummus Park and the beachfront strip
Lummus Park is the green corridor between Ocean Drive and the Atlantic. Its combination of palms, paths, beach access and constant street activity helps define the Miami Beach experience. Vice City’s beach scenes echo that relationship between a busy road, a landscaped park and a wide public shoreline.
Breakwater and Hotel Victor counterparts
Local reporting pointed to fictional Vice City hotels that resemble Miami Beach’s Breakwater Hotel and Hotel Victor. These are useful examples of how the game works: a distinctive silhouette or façade can survive the translation into a fictional city even when the name and exact address change.
It is safest to call these counterparts or likely inspirations. Unless Rockstar identifies a building directly, visual similarity is an informed comparison, not an official one-to-one confirmation.
What do the causeways and downtown skyline represent?
Vice City’s roads and high-rises draw heavily on the connection between Miami Beach and mainland Miami. The Venetian and MacArthur causeways are the most often cited real-world parallels, while the mainland skyline evokes downtown Miami and Brickell’s dense high-rise development.

Venetian and MacArthur causeways
Miami’s causeways cross Biscayne Bay and turn the trip between the beach and mainland into a defining piece of the city’s geography. Axios’ comparison work identified visual echoes of both the Venetian Causeway and MacArthur Causeway in the game material.

In a game, a causeway does more than imitate a road. It creates a clear transition between districts: beaches and hotels on one side, towers, industrial areas and transport infrastructure on the other. Vice City can therefore capture the feeling of Miami’s geography without preserving the real roads’ exact length, exits or island spacing.
Downtown Miami and Brickell-style towers
The mainland skyline uses the glass towers, broad avenues and tightly packed development associated with downtown Miami and Brickell. Current comparison reporting describes these as Miami-inspired urban forms rather than exact copies of individual blocks.
Brickell is particularly recognizable for its concentration of office, residential and hotel towers near Biscayne Bay. Vice City’s high-rise areas similarly provide a modern contrast to the low-rise Art Deco beach district. The result is a compressed city where a short drive can move from pastel historic hotels to a skyline of contemporary towers.
The Kaseya Center area and recognizable architecture
Axios also discussed visual similarities around the Kaseya Center area and other recognizable Miami architecture. Such comparisons help identify the design vocabulary Rockstar is using, but they should not be read as a complete list of buildings reproduced in the game.
Are PortMiami and Miami International Airport represented?
Vice City includes fictional counterparts to major Miami transport hubs, including the port and airport. CBS Miami reported comparisons involving PortMiami and Vice City’s port, as well as Miami International Airport and the fictional Vice City International Airport.
These are infrastructure-level parallels. A port with cruise terminals, container yards, warehouses and access roads naturally resembles PortMiami without copying its exact berth layout. Likewise, an airport counterpart can borrow Miami International’s role as a huge regional gateway while changing terminal geometry, runway placement and surrounding roads for gameplay.
Calling them counterparts is more accurate than saying the game contains exact replicas. Rockstar has not supplied a public concordance that maps every terminal, runway or port building to its real-world equivalent.

Wynwood-style murals and arts districts
Wynwood is known internationally for large-scale murals, galleries, converted warehouses and a rapidly changing mix of creative and commercial spaces. Vice City’s mural-covered walls and arts-district imagery draw on that visual language.
The game’s version can combine several real Miami blocks into a denser, more dramatic area. Look for the broad cues—painted walls, warehouse façades, nightlife venues and pedestrian-oriented streets—rather than expecting a precise recreation of the Wynwood Walls or a specific mural.
Little Havana and Cuban-influenced settings
Miami’s Cuban-American history is visible in neighborhood businesses, Spanish-language signage, food, music and public gathering places. Current comparisons identify Little Havana or Little Cuba-style elements in Vice City.

These details give the city a social and cultural texture that a generic coastal setting would lack. They also reinforce the contrast between tourist-facing South Beach, the corporate mainland skyline and residential neighborhoods shaped by migration and local community life.
Glamour beside grime
One of Miami’s defining visual tensions is the proximity of luxury and vulnerability: beachfront hotels and towers can sit close to working districts, flood-prone land, older homes and industrial infrastructure. Vice City uses the same contrast to make the map feel varied and to support different kinds of missions and exploration.
Are the Florida Keys and Everglades in GTA 6?
Yes, but under fictional Leonida names. The Leonida Keys are the clearest analogue for the Florida Keys, while Grassrivers is the strongest Everglades-inspired environment.
The Leonida Keys
The Florida Keys are a chain of islands connected by bridges and causeways, with tropical vegetation, marinas, low-rise communities and long stretches of open water. The Leonida Keys extend Vice City’s setting into that island environment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBecause the Keys are a region rather than a single landmark, the game can combine several real characteristics: island roads, boating culture, resort development and the sense of being far from the mainland. Grassrivers and the Everglades
Grassrivers represents the wetland side of South Florida. The name and environment suggest shallow water, dense vegetation, marshy terrain and airboat-like imagery associated with the Everglades.
The Everglades is an enormous ecosystem, not one city or attraction. Grassrivers therefore works best as a regional analogue: a game space that conveys the landscape’s scale and atmosphere while adapting waterways, trails and wildlife areas for missions and traversal.
Other Leonida regions
Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park broaden the setting beyond direct Miami comparisons. Available Rockstar-derived material names these regions, but the evidence does not establish a single specific Florida city or county as the exact model for each. Describe them as broader Florida-inspired locations unless Rockstar provides more detail.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →How accurate is GTA 6’s map compared with real Miami?
It is geographically recognizable but not a one-to-one map. Vice City compresses South Florida so that major environments can be reached within a practical game journey, and it rearranges landmarks to support pacing, missions and visual variety.
That compression affects every comparison. A causeway may lead to a skyline that is closer than in real life; a port and airport may occupy more convenient positions; and a Keys-like area may be connected to the main city through a fictional route. These changes are design choices, not errors in a supposed replica.
CBS Miami reported that fans had identified “well over 100 locations” in Vice City that mirror Miami. This is a fan-identified count reported by the station, not an official Rockstar total. It indicates how many recognizable details viewers believe they can spot, not how many buildings Rockstar has confirmed.
Which locations are confirmed, and which are interpretations?
The safest way to discuss the map is to separate official fictional names from real-world comparisons.
| Category | What can be stated safely | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| Vice City | A named fictional city in Leonida with a strongly Miami-oriented identity. | Official setting information |
| Leonida Keys | A named island region that is the clearest Florida Keys analogue. | Official name; real-world comparison is interpretive |
| Grassrivers | A named wetland region with clear Everglades-style imagery. | Official name; Everglades link is an analogue |
| South Beach and Ocean Drive | Art Deco hotels, beachfront streets and Lummus Park-style scenes resemble Miami Beach. | Strong journalist and expert comparison |
| Venetian and MacArthur causeways | Causeway layouts and views evoke Miami’s beach-to-mainland routes. | Likely inspiration, not official mapping |
| Downtown Miami and Brickell | High-rise mainland districts resemble Miami’s modern skyline. | Regional architectural comparison |
| PortMiami and Miami International Airport | Vice City has fictional port and airport counterparts. | Infrastructure comparison reported by local media |
| Wynwood and Cuban-influenced neighborhoods | Mural districts and cultural details echo distinctive Miami communities. | Visual and cultural comparison |
Why does Rockstar rearrange real Miami locations?
A literal copy would create practical problems. Real South Florida is spread across a large area, has complex waterways and includes many places that would not produce varied gameplay when visited in sequence. A compressed map lets players move from beach to skyline, port, wetlands and islands without spending most of the game on routine travel.

Rearrangement also protects the fictional identity of Vice City. Rockstar can evoke Miami’s architecture and culture while inventing businesses, characters, neighborhoods and conflicts. That approach gives players familiar visual anchors without turning the game into an official digital survey of the real city.
How does GTA 6’s Vice City relate to the original Vice City?
The original Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was already heavily based on Miami, especially its 1980s neon nightlife, organized-crime films and pastel coastal architecture. GTA 6 revisits the same fictional city in a modern Florida setting, expanding the reference point from a stylized urban core to a much larger Leonida region.
That means returning players can expect familiar ideas—beaches, causeways, nightlife and a sharp contrast between wealth and crime—without assuming that the new map is a rebuilt version of the old one. The modern game’s Miami references include contemporary towers, airports, ports, social-media-era imagery and environments beyond the central city.
What should you remember about Miami’s influence on Vice City?
Think of Vice City as a curated South Florida collage. South Beach, Ocean Drive and the Art Deco district provide the clearest landmark language; downtown Miami and Brickell supply the skyline; the Venetian and MacArthur causeways explain the city’s island-to-mainland geography; PortMiami and Miami International Airport represent regional infrastructure; Wynwood and Cuban-influenced neighborhoods add cultural specificity; and the Leonida Keys and Grassrivers extend the setting into the Keys and Everglades.
The important qualification is confidence. Rockstar confirms the fictional Leonida setting and its named regions, while many individual Miami matches come from journalists, experts and fans comparing trailers and screenshots. Use “inspired by,” “echoes,” “counterpart” and “likely analogue,” not “exact copy.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Will GTA 6 include real Miami street names?
The available material does not provide a complete official list of real Miami street names used in the game. Expect fictional names and altered layouts even where a road clearly resembles a Miami route.
Is Vice City the same size as Miami?
No. The game’s map is designed around playable travel and mission density, so South Florida environments are compressed and repositioned. A short in-game trip may represent a much longer real-world distance.

What is Grassrivers supposed to be?
Grassrivers is the clearest Everglades-inspired area in Leonida, with wetland terrain, shallow water and dense vegetation. It is a fictional regional analogue rather than a confirmed recreation of a particular Everglades park or trail.
Can I visit the real places that inspired Vice City?
Yes. South Beach and Ocean Drive have public streets, beaches and Art Deco buildings, while the Keys and Everglades are real travel regions. A game location should not be used as a precise navigation guide because Vice City rearranges real geography.
