Short answer: No 60 FPS mode has been confirmed for Grand Theft Auto VI on either PS5 model. A report attributed to Rockstar North development head and co-director Rob Nelson says current console development builds were running at 30 FPS, while a 60 FPS option was still undecided. Sony lists the game for both PS5 and PS5 Pro Enhanced but publishes no final frame-rate, resolution or Pro-mode specification. The reported $1,400 PS5 Pro price is pre-owned/resale pricing during shortages, not Sony’s $899.99 US recommended retail price. The standard $649.99 PS5 remains an officially supported way to play when GTA VI launches on 19 November 2026.
Will GTA 6 run at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro?
There is no official confirmation that GTA VI will run at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro. Sony’s listing confirms PS5 Pro Enhanced support, but that label does not promise a particular frame rate or resolution.
What the 30 FPS report actually says
VGC reproduced a machine-translated remark attributed to Rob Nelson, Rockstar North’s head of development and co-director: “According to Rob Nelson, Lead Developer and Co-director at Rockstar North, during this development period, the consoles are running the game at 30 frames per second.” VGC and Push Square also reported that a 60 FPS option remained undecided.

This describes a development-stage build, not the final retail specification. Rockstar could change performance targets before launch, but neither Rockstar nor Sony has published a launch promise for 60 FPS.

What “PS5 Pro Enhanced” confirms
Sony’s platform listing identifies GTA VI as a PS5 Pro Enhanced title. It does not state whether the Pro version will use a higher resolution, steadier 30 FPS, a performance mode, ray tracing, or another enhancement. Until a technical breakdown appears, buyers should treat the badge as compatibility information rather than a frame-rate guarantee.
How much do the PS5 and PS5 Pro cost?
The $1,400 figure needs context: it was reported for a pre-owned PS5 Pro during shortage conditions. Sony’s official US recommended retail prices are substantially lower.
| Console | Official US price | Other reported price | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 | $649.99 MSRP | Not stated | Sony’s standard console is an official GTA VI platform. |
| PS5 Pro | $899.99 MSRP | $1,400 pre-owned/resale price reported by Tom’s Guide during shortages | The premium reflects resale conditions, not Sony’s list price or a confirmed GTA VI performance advantage. |
Paying $1,400 therefore means paying about $500 above the PS5 Pro’s US MSRP and about $750 above the standard PS5 MSRP, before considering the game itself or any accessories.

Do you need a PS5 Pro for GTA 6?
No. Sony lists both the standard PS5 and PS5 Pro as supported platforms, so a Pro is not a requirement for GTA VI.
When the standard PS5 is the sensible choice
- You want the lowest official console cost and are comfortable waiting for the final performance details.
- You do not want to pay a shortage-driven resale premium for an unannounced frame-rate mode.
- You value Sony’s confirmed PS5 features, including DualSense haptics, adaptive triggers, Tempest 3D AudioTech and fast SSD loading, without assuming those features change frame rate.
When a PS5 Pro could make sense
- You already want the Pro for other games or display-focused features, independent of GTA VI.
- You can buy it near Sony’s official price rather than the reported resale figure.
- You are willing to wait for Sony or Rockstar to publish the exact GTA VI Pro enhancements before deciding whether the visual difference justifies the cost.
What is confirmed about GTA VI on PlayStation?
Sony Interactive Entertainment lists GTA VI for PS5 and PS5 Pro Enhanced with a 19 November 2026 release date. The listing does not include PS4, so the game is not announced for that older console.
| Item | Confirmed detail |
|---|---|
| Platforms | PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced |
| Release date | 19 November 2026 |
| PS5 Standard Edition | $79.99 on the 2026 PlayStation Store listing |
| PS5 Ultimate Edition | $99.99 on the 2026 PlayStation Store listing |
| Controller features | Sony confirms GTA VI support for DualSense vibration and adaptive triggers |
The controller and audio features affect immersion, not the number of frames rendered per second. Sony has not published a GTA VI resolution target, ray-tracing configuration or quantified difference between PS5 and PS5 Pro.

How should you evaluate a $1,400 PS5 Pro listing?
Use the following checks before buying from a reseller or marketplace:
- Compare the asking price with $899.99. Treat any amount above Sony’s US MSRP as a market premium, not an official GTA VI requirement.
- Confirm condition and contents. Check whether the console is new, refurbished or pre-owned, and verify that the required controller, cables and original packaging are included.
- Check seller protection and warranty. A resale listing may have different return rights and warranty coverage from an authorized retail purchase.
- Look for a published GTA VI performance mode. Do not infer 60 FPS from “PS5 Pro Enhanced”; wait for an explicit Rockstar or Sony specification.
- Price the complete setup. Add the game edition, display, storage needs and any second controller before comparing the total with a standard PS5 purchase.
What remains unknown before the 2026 launch?
As of 27 October 2026, the following details are still unpublished in Sony’s official listings:
- Final frame-rate targets on PS5 and PS5 Pro
- Resolution and image-quality settings
- Ray-tracing options and their performance cost
- The exact features covered by the PS5 Pro Enhanced designation
- Whether a 60 FPS mode will be available at launch or added later
Those points may be clarified by Rockstar or Sony before 19 November, or by independent testing of the retail build after release. Until then, the 30 FPS report is useful development context but not a final specification.

What should buyers do now?
Choose the standard PS5 if your priority is playing GTA VI at the lowest official console price. Consider the PlayStation 5 Pro only for its broader value to you and only near its official price; buying a $1,400 resale unit solely in hopes of 60 FPS is not supported by any confirmed GTA VI specification.
