Google Wallet is the app for storing eligible payment cards, tickets, passes, keys, IDs, and some receipts. Google Pay is the payment experience, so the names are related but not interchangeable. What you can add or use depends on your country, issuer, merchant, and device: having the Wallet app does not by itself mean a card can tap to pay or a pass will appear on a watch.
What is the difference between Google Wallet and Google Pay?
Google Wallet is the place to keep eligible digital items; Google Pay is the payment experience used when you pay. Some Wallet items are for paying, while others are credentials or records you present at a gate, counter, or reader. Google describes Wallet availability and its supported item types in its official Wallet overview.
That distinction matters when troubleshooting. A card can be saved in the app without being eligible for contactless payment on a particular phone, and a ticket can be available in Wallet without being a payment method. For a payment or pass to work, the relevant card issuer or pass provider, country, device, and feature all have to be supported.
Where are my Google Wallet transactions and receipts?
Card transaction entries are in Wallet, but they are payment records—not a substitute for an itemized merchant receipt. For detailed purchase reconciliation or a dispute, use the merchant receipt and bank statement as the authoritative records; Google’s transaction guidance cautions that merchant details may be incomplete.

Find a payment-card transaction
- Open the Google Wallet app.
- Tap View more, then View more transactions.
- Search for a transaction or select one to view its available details. Google may require verification before showing transaction information.
To see activity for one card, select that card in Wallet and tap View more transactions. The information shown can help identify a payment, but it may not contain every item, tax, or detail on the merchant’s original receipt.
Understand Gmail receipts and online orders
Gmail can supply certain records to Wallet, separately from the payment-card transaction list. With the relevant Gmail smart-feature setting enabled, eligible contactless-transaction receipts and some passes may be imported. Google says deleting the source email removes the associated Wallet item; this behavior concerns imported items and should not be assumed to apply to every Wallet transaction. See Google’s guidance on receipts and passes.
Google’s order-and-tracking feature is a separate, US-only feature in the checked guidance. It requires the relevant Gmail settings and a supported merchant; an order may include a detailed receipt, tracking number, and shipping status. In the app, open View more > View more transactions > Orders. On the Wallet website, open Transactions > Orders. An order detail may include View email receipt. If an order is missing, the merchant may not be supported or the necessary order information may not be present in the Gmail account. Google Wallet does not issue refunds; contact the merchant, as set out in Google’s order-help guidance.

Which cards and passes can I add?
Wallet supports multiple kinds of items, but availability is determined by the issuer, partner, and region. Google lists payment cards, boarding and event tickets, transit passes, loyalty and gift cards, digital car and other access keys, selected licenses and IDs, and some health cards. The category being supported does not guarantee that a particular provider or item is eligible.
Payment cards
To try adding a debit or credit card, open Wallet and choose Add to Wallet > Payment card > New credit or debit card. Enter or scan the card details, accept the issuer’s terms, and complete any verification the issuer requests. Issuer approval is required: a contactless symbol on the physical card alone does not establish that the issuer supports adding it to Wallet. Google’s card setup guidance explains that card eligibility depends on the issuer.
Tickets, loyalty cards, gift cards, and other passes
Use Add to Wallet in the app, or choose Add to Google Wallet in a participating issuer’s app or website. Participating airlines and ticket sellers can supply tickets. The Wallet website supports certain loyalty and gift cards, but it is not a way to add every type of pass. For a ticket whose tap scan fails, a supported barcode or QR code may still be displayed for scanning.

One important exception: Google Play gift cards are not supported as Wallet gift-card passes. A Visa- or Mastercard-branded gift card may instead be eligible as a payment method, subject to issuer support. Do not confuse the Google Play gift-card balance with a Wallet pass; Google’s pass information describes the types of items Wallet can handle.

What devices support Wallet, payments, and passes?
“Supports Google Wallet” can refer to different things: installing the app, paying contactlessly, or displaying a pass on a watch. These functions have different software, hardware, country, and issuer requirements. Check the requirement for the action you need rather than relying on the app’s presence alone.
| Use case | Google’s stated conditions | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Google Wallet Android app | Android 9 or newer, a valid Google Account, current Google Play services, and the current Wallet app | Google says Wallet does not work on rooted devices or work profiles. |
| Phone contactless payment | A qualified Android phone with NFC enabled, a supported card and country, compliant software, and payment-app setup | App availability alone does not prove tap-to-pay eligibility. |
| Wear OS watch contactless payment | Wear OS 2.0 or newer, NFC, a supported country and card, and updated services and Wallet app | Set the payment card up on the watch; it is not simply copied from the phone. |
| Wear OS watch passes | Wear OS 3.5 or newer and watch Wallet app version 23.46.x or newer, with eligible synced passes | Some passes are phone-only. Fitbit devices are not part of this Wear OS watch-pass feature. |
| Fitbit contactless payment | A listed Fitbit device and a supported country and bank or card | A supported Fitbit payment device does not imply Wear OS watch-pass support. |
These are Google Help’s stated requirements, not a guarantee that every combination is available. Google lists the Wallet app and website and contactless payments on eligible phones, Wear OS watches, and Fitbit devices for the United States. For another location, check the country selector and the card issuer. The country guidance refers to availability in over 50 countries and regions; that is a vendor availability statement, not an adoption statistic. Google’s country availability page provides the relevant regional details.

Google names Pixel Watch 2 and later for express pay, but describes express pay as a rollout. A device being named as eligible does not mean the setting is already available to every owner. Google also provides separate requirements for Android, Wear OS, and Fitbit use.
What if I get a new phone?
Do not assume every item will move automatically. Google says some saved cards and passes transfer, while its detailed transfer guidance distinguishes account-linked items from credentials tied to a particular device. Payment cards need to be set up for tap to pay again; debit and credit cards and some transit, ID, access, or private credentials may not automatically appear on the new phone. Account-linked passes can transfer. Review the Wallet on your new phone and set up any missing eligible item again; Google’s transfer instructions describe this distinction.

- A card will not add: Check that your country and issuer support Wallet, that the phone has NFC and meets Google’s software and security requirements, and that you completed issuer verification. The issuer can decline provisioning even when the card is contactless.
- A ticket or loyalty card is absent: Check whether the airline, ticket seller, or loyalty program participates. Some passes have to be added from that provider’s app or website; ask the issuer about a pass-specific problem.
- A pass does not show on a watch: Confirm that it is an eligible pass and that the watch meets the separate Wear OS version and Wallet-app requirements. A pass on the phone is not automatically a pass that can appear on every wearable.
- An order is missing: For the US order-and-tracking feature, check the Gmail account and settings and whether the merchant is supported. This is different from searching the payment card’s transaction list.
- A transaction lacks detail: Use the merchant’s receipt and bank statement for itemization or reconciliation; Wallet’s entry may not contain all merchant-shared details.
How are Wallet receipts handled in data controls?
Google categorizes digital receipts as passes for its pass-data controls, while debit and credit payment methods are excluded from that pass category. That distinction means receipts and payment cards are not managed as though they were the same kind of Wallet item; Google’s Wallet help covers digital receipts and passes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a merchant refund a purchase through Google Wallet?
No. Google Wallet does not issue refunds. Contact the merchant that sold the item and follow its refund process; Google’s order guidance makes clear that order details in Wallet do not transfer refund handling to Google.
Why might Google Wallet ask me to verify before showing a transaction?
Google may require verification before transaction information is displayed. If the transaction is still unclear after verification, compare the Wallet entry with the merchant receipt or bank statement.
Why can an eligible Pixel Watch owner still lack express pay?
Google describes express pay for Pixel Watch 2 and later as a rollout, so eligibility does not establish that the setting has reached every device. Availability should be checked on the watch rather than inferred from the model name.
Does Google Play gift-card balance work as a Wallet gift card?
No. Google Play gift cards are not supported as Wallet gift-card passes. A separate Visa- or Mastercard-branded gift card may be treated as a payment method instead, if its issuer supports it.
