Google Play Points is the better fit if you already spend money on eligible Google Play purchases; Google Opinion Rewards is the better fit if you prefer answering occasional surveys for Play credit. Neither program is a cash-earning alternative, and there is no universal winner: availability and value depend on your country, spending, and willingness to take surveys. Eligible users may be able to use both.
How the two programs work
| Program | How you earn | What you get | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Play Points | Points on eligible Google Play purchases, such as apps, games, in-app purchases, and subscriptions. Some selected offers may also award points, including featured free apps. | Google Play credit or special items in participating apps and games. | Points cannot be purchased, transferred, or converted to cash. Rates and availability vary by country. Google Play Help |
| Google Opinion Rewards | Answer market-research surveys when they are offered. | On Android, Google Play credit. | Survey frequency and credit amounts vary; the credit is not cash and expires one year after it is earned. Google Opinion Rewards Help |
Which one is better for you?
Choose Play Points if you already spend in Google Play
Play Points can return some value on purchases you would make anyway. Eligible activity includes purchases of apps, games, in-app content, and subscriptions, though the earning rate and eligible offers depend on your country. Redeem points for Play credit or supported in-app and game items. Avoid spending extra solely to earn points: the reward only makes sense if the underlying purchase is worthwhile to you.
Choose Opinion Rewards if you are comfortable answering surveys
Opinion Rewards turns available surveys into Google Play credit. You can decline a survey, but you cannot count on a particular number arriving or on a steady monthly amount. Google says survey frequency may vary and that users do not have to answer every survey. The US Google Play listing displayed a maximum example of up to $1.00 per completed survey when accessed on October 3, 2026; that is not typical pay or a guarantee, and actual credit varies with survey length and question count. Use both if you qualify and both suit you
These are different earning mechanisms rather than mutually exclusive subscriptions: Play Points reward eligible Play activity, while Opinion Rewards credits come from surveys. If your account is eligible for both, you can use each on its own terms.

Check availability and account country first
Opinion Rewards eligibility is tied to your Google Account country, which also determines survey eligibility and reward currency. Google recommends matching that country with your Google Play country to avoid currency mismatches when redeeming credit. Its Android help page listed 39 eligible countries when accessed on October 3, 2026; availability can change, so check the current list before relying on the app. The page also says eligible users must be over 18. Play Points coverage and earning rates also differ by country. Check the Play Points information for your own market rather than assuming rates or offers shown for another country apply to you. Google Play Points Help

How to compare the value fairly
- Start with local eligibility: confirm that each program is available for your account and country.
- Consider your existing Play spending: Play Points are relevant when you already make eligible purchases, not as a reason by themselves to buy more.
- Account for irregular surveys: Opinion Rewards does not publish a representative monthly earnings figure, and survey frequency varies.
- Compare what the rewards buy: Play Points may be redeemed for Play credit or eligible app and game items; Opinion Rewards provides Play credit on Android.
- Do not equate points with credits: they are different reward units, and local earning and redemption rules matter.
Expiration and country-change risks
Opinion Rewards credit expires
Each Opinion Rewards credit expires one year after it is earned. The app shows the next upcoming expiration, which can help you use credit before it lapses. Google Opinion Rewards Help
Changing Play billing country can forfeit Play Points
Google says Play Points are lost if you change your billing country, and your program level does not carry over. Points also cannot be converted to cash or transferred. Consider this before changing billing country if you have accumulated points. Google Play Points Help

Verdict
For Android users who already buy eligible apps, games, or subscriptions through Google Play, Play Points are the more direct loyalty reward. If you would rather answer occasional surveys for store credit—and your account is eligible—Opinion Rewards is a useful alternative or complement. Pick based on your habits, not a promised earnings total: Google does not establish a typical monthly Opinion Rewards amount or a universal monetary comparison between the programs.
