SBI Card and Google announced the Google Pay Flex SBI Card on July 29, 2026. Available through the Google Pay app on RuPay and Visa, it combines app-based card management with credit-card payments. Its ₹499 annual fee (plus applicable taxes) is not waived automatically: the renewal fee is waived only after at least ₹1 lakh in spending in the preceding year. RuPay users also get UPI QR payment and Star redemption features that are not described as available on Visa cards.
What is the Google Pay Flex SBI Card?
It is a co-branded credit card issued by SBI Card and offered through Google Pay. Google announced it on July 29, 2026, and says applicants can apply in the app; SBI Card reviews the application and digitally issues the card if approved. The card is available on the RuPay and Visa networks. Google’s launch announcement and SBI Card’s media index list the launch.
Applying in Google Pay does not guarantee approval. Google says SBI Card assesses eligibility using its own criteria and the applicant’s credit profile. The card can be used for online and in-store purchases on either network. Google describes UPI QR payments as a feature for RuPay cards.
Fees: ₹499, with a conditional renewal waiver
The published joining/annual fee is ₹499 plus applicable taxes, and the renewal fee is also ₹499 plus taxes. SBI Card waives the renewal fee if the cardholder spends at least ₹1 lakh in the preceding year. That is a spend-based waiver, not a lifetime-free offer. RuPay versus Visa: UPI and Stars differ
| Feature | RuPay Flex SBI Card | Visa Flex SBI Card |
|---|---|---|
| Online and in-store card payments | Available, subject to merchant acceptance | Available, subject to merchant acceptance |
| UPI QR payments | Google describes this feature for RuPay cards | Not described as available for Flex Visa cards by Google’s cited help |
| Redeem Stars against Flex payments in Google Pay | Google says this is available for RuPay-network cards | Not described as available for Flex Visa cards |
Google Pay’s Flex help page says Stars are reward points earned on eligible Flex payments and that one Star equals ₹1, as stated in Google’s July 2026 announcement. Stars may be redeemed against Flex payments in Google Pay only for RuPay-network cards; Google also says Stars can be used to buy gift cards in the app. Do not assume the payment-redemption option applies to Visa. Eligibility and applicable terms govern earning and redemption.
Managing the card in Google Pay
Google says Flex customers can view bills, amounts due, transactions and Stars in Google Pay, and can pause or block the card. Eligible transactions may be converted into EMI, subject to issuer rules. Spending-limit controls shown in Google Pay Help are identified there as an Axis Bank feature; Google’s cited materials do not establish that control for the SBI card.
EMI: optional, eligibility-dependent borrowing
EMI conversion is not a promise that every cardholder or purchase will qualify. Google Pay says conversion is subject to issuer eligibility, applies to the latest bill, may require an upfront payment, carries interest and can include a processing fee. Its bill-management guidance lists 3-, 6-, 9- and 12-month tenures. SBI Card’s Pay in EMI terms describe an offer for selected eligible customers and eligible retail transactions from the latest bill through Google Pay.

Announced Google offers: check whether they are live
In its July 29, 2026 announcement, Google said Flex customers would soon be eligible for 50% off Google AI Plus for one year and could get a discount across the Google Pixel smartphone range. The announcement did not establish that these offers are currently available or set out their detailed terms. Can using the card affect your credit score?
Google says Flex credit usage is reported to credit bureaus such as CIBIL. In Google’s product guidance, timely payments may help build positive credit history, while missed payments or high credit utilisation may hurt a score. These are possible effects, not a guaranteed score increase or decrease; the outcome depends on credit reporting and the person’s overall credit profile. Google Pay Help
