Some people are seeing very slow responses and errors in the Google Home apps for Android and iPhone. Opening a linked device may fail, and reinstalling the app can produce an “Internal error encountered” message. Google’s official Nest Community account says it is “actively rolling out a fix for this.”
The available report does not establish a single worldwide outage. The Google Home web version appeared to work for affected users, while the mobile-app problem was reported on both major phone platforms.
What is happening with Google Home?
The reported fault is concentrated in the Google Home mobile apps. Users have described slow interactions, device-opening errors and an internal-error message when attempting a reinstall. These symptoms can make speakers, displays and other linked devices appear unavailable even when the underlying hardware has not failed.
Reports covered both Android and iOS. The web version of Google Home appeared to work for the users described in the report, so the evidence points more strongly to a mobile-app incident than to every Google Home service being offline.

Android Authority reported these symptoms on October 2, 2026. Google has not published a root-cause explanation, affected app-version list, geographic breakdown, prevalence statistic or completion deadline.
Is Google Home down?
Not necessarily in the broad sense. The evidence describes a mobile-app problem affecting some users, not a confirmed outage for all Google Home accounts or devices. If the web interface works while the Android or iOS app fails, that difference is consistent with the reported incident.

What you can try while the fix rolls out
These steps are practical checks, not guaranteed cures. One user reported that clearing the app’s cache and storage and changing to another Wi-Fi network stopped the errors. That is anecdotal and has not been established as a universal workaround.
Use the web version
Open Google Home in a browser and sign in with the same Google account. Because the web version appeared to work for affected users, it may provide temporary access while the phone app is failing. Availability and functionality can differ from the mobile app.

On Android, clear Google Home data
- Open Settings.
- Go to Apps (the label may be Apps & notifications).
- Select Google Home, then Storage & cache.
- Try Clear cache. If the problem remains, Clear storage or Clear data.
- Open Google Home again and sign in or complete any setup prompts.
Clearing storage removes the app’s local data, so you may need to repeat app-level setup. It does not replace the reported server-side fix.
Try another network
Temporarily connect the phone to a different Wi-Fi network, or use a trusted mobile hotspot, then test Google Home again. A network change helped one user, but that result does not prove that Wi-Fi is the cause of the wider incident.
Avoid repeated reinstalls if they trigger the error
If reinstalling produces “Internal error encountered,” repeated uninstall-and-install cycles are unlikely to provide new information while Google is deploying its fix. Keep the app installed if possible, note the exact symptom and check again after an update or later in the day.

Rollouts can reach users at different times. If the app continues to fail after the workaround steps, checking for an app update and trying again later is more appropriate than replacing a speaker, display, router or power cable solely because of this incident.
When should you troubleshoot your own setup?
Consider a local device or network problem if the same device also fails through the web interface, disappears from every phone and account, or shows no power and network indicators. By contrast, a phone app that is slow while the web interface works matches the reported mobile-app symptoms more closely.
For now, the clearest distinction is access path: use the web interface when it works, treat cache/storage clearing and a network switch as temporary experiments, and wait for Google’s staged software fix rather than buying replacement hardware.
