Google Calendar may be preparing a way to give each calendar its own default event duration instead of applying one account-wide choice everywhere. The possibility comes from a teardown of Google Calendar for Android version 2026.38.0-989268529-release, not from a Google announcement, so there is no confirmed release date or guarantee that the setting will ship.
What the reported change could do
Android Authority reported on October 2, 2026, that work-in-progress code may move default event-duration controls from a global account setting to individual calendars. If released, a work calendar could default to short meetings while a family calendar could default to longer appointments.
| Setting model | How new events would receive a duration | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Current consumer model | One default duration applies across the account’s calendars. The choice is described as syncing across devices and platforms. | Most calendars use roughly the same meeting length. |
| Possible future model | Each calendar could have its own default duration. | Separate calendars represent schedules with different typical lengths. |
The report does not establish the final interface, supported account types, or whether the behavior would be identical in Android, the web app, and other clients.
Why separate defaults would matter
Different calendars often represent different kinds of time
A single account-wide duration is convenient until calendars have distinct purposes. Work meetings might commonly be brief, while family plans, classes, travel blocks, or appointments may need more time. Per-calendar defaults would reduce the number of duration changes required when creating events.

It would address a limitation in the current setup
Under the current consumer behavior described in the report, changing the default affects the account’s calendars rather than just one of them. Users who maintain several calendars therefore have to adjust individual events whenever their calendars follow different scheduling patterns.
What is confirmed—and what is not
- The finding is based on a teardown of Google Calendar for Android version 2026.38.0-989268529-release.
- The reported code suggests a possible move from a global default to per-calendar defaults.
- Google has not confirmed a public release, rollout schedule, geography, or eligible-account list in the material reviewed.
- No evidence establishes that Google will definitely remove the existing global option.
- The teardown report warns that features inferred from work-in-progress code may never reach a public release.
Accordingly, the feature should be treated as a prediction, not an available Google Calendar setting.

What you can do today
Use the existing account-wide default
Google Calendar currently provides a single consumer default duration as described by the report. Because that choice is account-wide, select the length that best fits most new events, then edit exceptions while creating them.
Adjust exceptional events manually
When an event does not match the global default, change its end time or duration in the event editor before saving. This remains the dependable approach until Google documents another native option.

Keep calendar roles in mind
If you use separate work, personal, family, or project calendars, note which ones would benefit from different defaults. That list will make it easier to configure the feature if Google releases it, but it does not activate per-calendar behavior now.
How Workspace controls fit in
Google Workspace has a separate organization-level context. A Google Workspace Help search excerpt says administrators of supported editions can set an organizational default and that users may set a different default for their own calendars. The available excerpt does not establish that this documented administrator control is the same as the Android teardown change, so the two should not be treated as one feature.
What to watch for next
- An official Google announcement or updated help documentation.
- A visible per-calendar duration control in a public Android, web, or Workspace release.
- Clear information about whether the existing global setting remains available.
- Details on account eligibility, rollout regions, and synchronization behavior.
Until those details appear, reports based on the teardown can indicate direction but cannot confirm what users will receive.

Why do my new Google Calendar events keep getting the same length?
The current consumer default is described as one account-level duration that applies across calendars and syncs across devices and platforms. Events that need another length must be adjusted individually.
The Bottom Line
Google Calendar may eventually support a different new-event duration for each calendar, but the evidence is an Android code teardown rather than a launch announcement. For now, consumers still have the account-wide default and manual edits.
