The first access is going to trusted cyber defenders and testers; Google says broader access will begin with paid Gemini API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers, without giving a public release date.
What is Gemini 4 Argon?
Gemini 4 Argon is a Google-announced AI model aimed at complex, long-running work rather than only short prompts and replies. Google says its intended uses include software engineering, enterprise knowledge work such as legal and finance, cybersecurity defense, and creative writing. Its announcement describes an output limit of up to one million tokens for long, multi-step tasks. That is Google’s stated output limit, not an independently verified measure of how well the model performs.
Google’s official model directory lists Gemini 4 Argon among its September 2026 models and links to evaluation material. Google product head Tulsee Doshi described it to Axios as “a well-rounded model that has frontier capabilities across several domains” in Axios’s launch coverage.
Who can use Gemini 4 Argon now?
Google is beginning with a restricted rollout, not public sign-ups or a download. The initial groups are trusted cyber defenders participating through the Fairwind Program and a cohort of trusted testers. Google says their real-world evaluations and feedback will help strengthen its systems before broader release. The rollout is therefore part of an evaluation and safety process, not evidence that the model is ready for unrestricted access.

#1 Best Overall
For most people, there is no confirmed way to try Argon today. Google has not announced a firm date for free-user access or availability across all consumer plans.
How is broader access expected to work?
Google says it plans to expand access to developers, enterprises, and consumers, starting with paid Gemini API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers. These are the first broader routes Google has named; the company has not supplied a date, API price, or detailed eligibility terms in the cited announcement. A subscription or API account should not be treated as a guarantee of immediate access while the rollout is staged.
Rank #2
| Access group | Status | What Google has said |
|---|---|---|
| Trusted cyber defenders | Initial rollout | Access through the Fairwind Program, according to Google’s announcement. |
| Trusted testers | Initial rollout | A cohort is evaluating the model before broader release, according to Google’s announcement. |
| Paid Gemini API customers | Named first broader route; timing and pricing not stated | Google says wider release will start with paid API customers, but gives no firm date in its announcement. |
| Google AI Ultra subscribers | Named first broader consumer route; timing not stated | Google names these subscribers as part of the first broader release, with no firm date in its announcement. |
| Free users and other users | No availability date announced | Google has not stated when universal or free-plan access will arrive. |
Is Argon better for coding or cybersecurity?
Google positions Argon for both software engineering and cybersecurity defense, as well as other demanding work. One reported coding result is 77.9% on the DeepSWE v1.1 software-engineering benchmark, a figure attributed to Google and reported by Ars Technica. It should be read as a company-reported score, not as an independently confirmed ranking or proof that Argon outperforms other models in everyday coding.
The announcement and available coverage do not establish that Argon is categorically better at coding than cybersecurity, or vice versa. Google’s descriptions identify target workloads; they do not provide independent comparative results across those fields. No independent testing result or independently verified comparative ranking was available as of October 2, 2026.
