Google announced Gemini 4 Argon on September 30, 2026, but its announcement describes access only for trusted cyber defenders in the Fairwind Program. The company says it plans to widen access to developers, enterprises, and consumers, starting with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers—but it has not announced a public release date.

Who can use Gemini 4 Argon now?

Google says Argon is rolling out to trusted cyber defenders through its Fairwind Program. The announcement does not describe an open sign-up, general availability, or access for ordinary Gemini users. It also does not publish detailed eligibility criteria for joining Fairwind. Google’s announcement characterizes the rollout as deliberately phased: “Safely releasing frontier capabilities at this level requires a phased approach,” wrote Koray Kavukcuoglu, SVP at Google DeepMind and Google Chief AI Architect.

Who is expected to get access next?

Google says it intends to extend Argon to developers, enterprises, and consumers “as soon as possible,” with broader access starting with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers. That is a stated future sequence, not confirmation that either route is open today. The announcement names no launch date, country list, or plan-by-plan eligibility requirements.

Planned access routes

Route What Google has said What remains unclear
Fairwind Program Initial rollout to trusted cyber defenders. Detailed eligibility and how to apply are not stated in the announcement.
Paid API customers Named as an initial route in the planned broader rollout. Opening date and access requirements are not stated.
Google AI Ultra subscribers Named as an initial route in the planned broader rollout. Opening date and plan-specific requirements are not stated.
Other developers, enterprises, and consumers Google says it plans to expand access to these groups in phases. Timing and exact availability are not stated.

What do the announced API prices mean?

Google lists introductory API pricing of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. It says cached input tokens are priced 95% below the input-token rate. These are API usage prices, not evidence that API access has already opened. The announcement does not state a price for Google AI Ultra access, and the API rates should not be treated as equivalent to a subscription fee.

What is Gemini 4 Argon designed to do?

Google describes Argon as a frontier model for complex, long-horizon workflows, naming software engineering, enterprise knowledge work such as legal and finance, and cybersecurity defense. The company also cites internal examples involving coding and data-center memory efficiency. These descriptions and examples are Google’s claims; they do not constitute independent hands-on validation.

Axios quoted Tulsee Doshi, identified as Google’s head of Gemini products, calling Argon “a well-rounded model that has frontier capabilities across several domains.” That is a company representative’s assessment. Ars Technica reported benchmark claims from Google’s announcement, but the available reporting does not establish independent replication or evaluation of those results.

What is still unknown?

  • When public or paid access will begin: Google has not given a date.
  • Where the rollout will be available: the announcement does not provide a regional list.
  • Which specific accounts or plan tiers will qualify, and what steps will be required: detailed eligibility is not stated.
  • Whether access will change, or additional routes will be added, as the rollout progresses.

For now, the reliable distinction is between the current Fairwind trusted-defender rollout and Google’s undated plan to begin wider access through paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers. Check Google’s announcement for updates rather than relying on an assumed launch date or eligibility rule.
