Depending on the account and interface version, Help me write can also offer rewriting controls such as making a draft more formal, shorter or more detailed. Google may expose different controls on the web and in the mobile apps, so a missing button does not necessarily mean the plan is inactive.
Summarization and inbox assistance
Gemini can help summarize eligible email content and answer questions about messages when those features are enabled for your account. This is most useful for long threads, handoffs and messages with several decisions buried in the text. The plan has usage limits rather than unlimited access to every model or feature. Google says members can buy additional AI credits after reaching plan limits. How to use Gemini in Gmail
Create an email draft
- Sign in to the personal Google Account that holds the Google AI Pro subscription and open Gmail.
- Select Compose.
- Choose Help me write when the control appears in the compose window.
- Enter the task, audience, tone and facts the message must contain. Specific instructions produce a more useful starting draft.
- Review the result line by line, correct factual details and formatting, then send only after your normal checks.
If Help me write is not shown, confirm that you are using the subscribed account, update the Gmail app, and check whether your country, language or administrator policy supports the feature. A work or school account may be governed by Workspace controls instead of the consumer plan.
Summarize or interrogate an eligible thread
- Open the conversation you need to understand.
- Use the Gemini or summary control displayed for that message. Google can change the label and placement as the interface rolls out.
- Read the generated summary, then verify names, dates, amounts, commitments and quoted text in the original messages.
- Ask a focused follow-up question only when the feature presents that option and the requested information is contained in the conversation.
Do not treat a summary as a substitute for opening attachments or checking messages that arrived after the summary was generated.
Privacy, permissions and organisational controls
Google’s April 7, 2026 privacy explanation states: Google does not train its foundational AI models, including Gemini, on your personal emails.

Is Google AI Pro worth paying for just for Gmail?
There is no single answer because Google does not publish an independent Gmail time-saved or accuracy figure for this plan. Evaluate the subscription against your own workload and the value of the included storage and other Gemini products.
Pro is easier to justify when
- You write, rewrite or summarize email every day and would otherwise spend significant attention creating first drafts.
