This guide covers God of War Ragnarök. Its accessibility settings let you start with a preset, then adjust combat assistance, controls, exploration, visual and audio options, HUD, and motion individually. The documented labels here are for Ragnarök; they should not be assumed to match every other game in the series or every platform edition. PlayStation’s accessibility guide describes more than 70 accessibility features.
How to get started with accessibility settings
Use a preset if you want to change several related options quickly, or adjust only the settings that address a particular barrier or preference. The four presets are Vision, Hearing, Motion Reduction, and Motor Accessibility. Each offers Off, Some, and Full choices; applying one changes relevant settings, which are marked blue in the menus. The preset is a starting configuration, not a diagnosis or a requirement. Review the blue-marked values and personalize them afterward.

Santa Monica Studio’s May 19, 2022 announcement described “more than 60 ways to adjust gameplay.” That was the studio’s wording at the time; PlayStation’s current guide uses the “over 70 accessibility features” count. Read the studio’s announcement.
What the presets cover
- Vision: includes settings such as navigation assist, puzzle timing and aim assist, lock-on, auto pickup, traversal assist, audio cues, high-contrast HUD, and text and icon sizing.
- Hearing: groups subtitles and captions with direction indicators, speaker names, and subtitle or caption backgrounds.
- Motion Reduction: includes camera sway and shake, cinematic smoothing, a persistent center dot, motion blur, film grain, and camera controls.
- Motor Accessibility: includes repeated-press behavior, menu holds, sprint and minigame styles, aim and block toggles, lock-on, traversal assist, and evade style.
Which settings can make combat easier?
Combat assistance can be configured separately from the overall difficulty. Aim assist, lock-on, camera behavior, item pickup, and miniboss checkpoints affect different parts of a fight, so you can change one without choosing a preset.
#1 Best Overall
- Feel your journey through the Norse realms, made possible by immersive haptic feedback and adaptive trigger functionality.
- Take advantage of multidirectional 3D Audio; hear enemies approaching from any direction. (3D audio with stereo headphones (analog or USB))
- Bask in the beautiful worlds you travel through, brought to life by precise art direction and arresting attention to detail.
- Switch between full 4K resolution at a targeted 30 frames per second, or dynamic resolution upscaled to 4K at a targeted 60fps. (4K resolution requires a compatible 4K TV or display)
Aim assist, lock-on, and camera recentering
- Aim Assist offers Off, Classic, and Classic+ modes. It adds momentary strafe assistance and target friction; Classic+ targets the closest target to the reticle from anywhere on screen.
- Puzzle Aim Assist can be turned on or off. When on, it snaps the reticle to a nearby puzzle target; it is separate from combat aim assist.
- Lock-On Camera offers Off, Classic, Auto-Target, and Auto-Target+. Lock-on keeps a selected enemy in view until an event or action breaks the lock; the modes vary how targeting behaves.
- Recenter Camera on Attack offers Off, Classic, Priority, and Priority+. It moves the camera behind the player during melee actions. Priority modes favor nearby enemies, while Priority+ also includes enemies off screen.
Pickup and miniboss options
Auto Pickup can collect health and rage items and other resources as you approach them. Its Essentials, Economy, and Full choices determine how broadly it applies.
Miniboss Checkpoints can let a sufficiently damaged miniboss restart with reduced health after you die. This option is unavailable on Give Me No Mercy and Give Me God of War difficulties.
Rank #2
Changing the combat challenge
Difficulty is separate from the accessibility presets. PlayStation’s US FAQ lists five modes, from the least combat-focused to the most demanding. Give Me God of War is selectable only when starting a new game. You can lower difficulty during a game, but after doing so you cannot raise it again without restarting. See PlayStation’s FAQ.
| Difficulty | Combat emphasis described by PlayStation |
|---|---|
| Give Me Story | Least combat focus |
| Give Me Grace | Story focus with some combat |
| Give Me Balance | Equal focus on story and combat |
| Give Me No Mercy | Demanding combat |
| Give Me God of War | Most difficult; selectable only at the start of a new game |
How to change controls for motor access or fatigue
Input options let you change how frequently you press or hold buttons, and how actions such as aiming or blocking are activated. These alternatives are personal: a toggle may reduce repeated holds for one player, while another may prefer the original hold behavior.

How navigation and traversal assists differ
Navigation Assist turns the camera toward your current story objective or the objective selected on the map. Outside combat, press the Lock-on Button to orient the view; a swipe can also be configured as an activation method. Santa Monica Studio summarized the behavior this way: “When not in combat, pressing the Navigation Assist button will orient your view in the direction of the next story goal.”
Traversal Assist reduces button presses for specified movement interactions. Auto covers vaulting, mantling, jumping gaps, and descending ledges. Auto+ adds crawls, presses, and climb points. These features address different tasks: navigation points the view toward a chosen objective, while traversal automates listed movement interactions. Neither description means the game solves every puzzle or automatically follows every route.

Puzzle Aim Assist is another distinct option: it helps align the reticle with a nearby puzzle target. Puzzle timing is also included among preset options.

- High Contrast Display offers presets and individual color categories, including player, enemies, hazards, traversal markings, and background.
- High Contrast HUD adds a dark backing to UI elements.
- Color filters and UI color correction provide further options for adjusting displayed colors.
- Audio Cues can add sounds or spoken directional information for certain prompts and traversal or combat actions.
- Screen Reader narrates selected menus in English. The documented screens are Start, Onboarding, Options, Tutorials, Realm Selection, and Auto-equip; this is not a full gameplay screen reader.
Options for hearing loss
Subtitles and captions can be configured alongside direction indicators and speaker names. You can also adjust subtitle or caption backgrounds and blur. Voice boost and center-pan dialogue are available for audio customization, and mono audio support is listed among the hearing options. Audio Cues can supply sounds or spoken direction information for certain actions; they are an additional cue, not a replacement for every audio event.
Camera motion, shake, and HUD
Reduce or adjust motion
Camera Shake, Ambient Camera Sway, Motion Blur, and Film Grain each have a 0–10 slider. Cinematic Smoothing can smooth camera movement during cinematics where possible. A persistent center dot can be enabled in multiple sizes and colors. Try adjustments individually to find the combination that is comfortable for you; the official guide does not prescribe one setting for everyone.
Choose which HUD elements appear
Where listed, HUD elements can be set to On, Swipe, or Off. Configurable elements include the compass, enemy and boss health bars, off-screen enemy indicators, combat HUD, gameplay notifications, and aim reticle. The Swipe option provides an alternative to keeping an element constantly visible.
